There is room for both classic Lara Croft and Nathan Drake in gaming. Both Invincible and vulnerable heroes are enjoyable in their own. One makes you feel like an unstoppable badass and the other makes you emphasize with your character through their struggles.

being someone who grew up watching and playing all of these games, this video really made me realize what and how much i love this formula. fallen order was easily my favourite game for quite some time and i couldn’t agree more that this recipe for media is one of the tastiest. great video like always!!

I have a small handful of frustrations with Fallen Order, but I wholeheartedly agree that him being a flawed, imperfect hero is really what made the game *good*. Plus that ending. . . good gods

One of my favorite “flawed” heroes is Garcia Hotspur from Shadows of the Damned. Not flawed in that he makes mistakes and barely survives ordeals but in that he’s so macho, it’s to the point of parody. Checkpoints always comes up with interesting topics for videos! Great channel 👍!

I've never played an Uncharted (Sony loves to hoard all the good exclusives!) but I love all three games in the modern Tomb Raider series, they're some of the most accessible and replayable action games I've ever played. So I was delighted that Fallen Order was just the exact same formula, but with lightsaber combat and a seamlessly immersive take on the Star Wars aesthetic. It's a beautiful and thrilling game that reminded me of everything I like about Star Wars.
I liked the fresh layers it added to the conflict, I liked the new lore and art, and I liked Cal's arc and relationships. But I do think they were a bit lazy in making him just another young white brunette human guy tho, it kinda feels like they were milking the Skywalker nostalgia train without saying it aloud. Just let us play as weird aliens, goddammit! A petty complaint, but I want future Star Wars stories to focus on more unlikely heroes, or just give us a character creator to design our own.
Despite that gripe, it is more or less a perfect game. Just like the modern Tomb Raider trilogy, it's a game that I will inevitably revisit when I need a steady dose of serotonin. I hope the rumors of a sequel are proven true, and I hope they build on everything they got right the first time around, which is a hell of a lot. Also, I hope Sony stops being a bunch of scrooges and starts porting their damn exclusives to PC soon!

Some people still hate on Fallen Order either cuz they hate Disney or EA Star Wars. But really, they're missing out on am actually fantastic game. Who cares who made it

So Uncharted was the Die Hard of videogames? Before Die Hard heroes were supposed to be big muscular men like Schwarzenegger and Stallone with no doubts or challenges. Then Bruce Willis, a romantic comedy actor, came with Die Hard, bled his feet and tried calling the cops multiple times before ever getting his hand in a gun. Uncharted did that to videogames.

Half-Life is the real Die Hard of videogames, even down to the premise. Before that, FPS games had you play as badasses who only stopped ripping and tearing to say a cool one-liner. Gordon was a nerd who was thrown into a crazy situation and had to adapt, crawl through vents and outsmart his enemies to survive. It's too bad they turned him into a demi-god in HL2.

The sequel ruined star wars for people just getting into it. But the mandalorian is taking star wars fans back and making them enjoy star wars again. I agree with that star wars has story that haven't been read by many and has stories waiting to be created.

I played through Uncharted 2 and 3 for the first time a year ago and as much as I love those games both mechanically and for their obvious artistic value regarding the cinematics and sceneries, I think the character of Nathan Drake stands in contrast to the otherwise impressive design choices in those games.
The idea of Indiana Jones might have been a refreshing take on movie protagonists of the '80s since he was a more realistic human being, relatable and imperfect unlike Rambo. But Naughty Dog's Nathan Drake was created almost 30 years later and at this point, he feels like the 100th "relatable" good looking cis guy with a sassy humor unable to choose between 2 women. So what I'm saying is, yes, Indiana Jones was something new and something the movie industry needed at that time. But applying that same idea for over 30 years in both the movie and the video game industry created this boring cismale protagonist trope in modern media. This alone wouldn't be a problem, but all this comes at the cost that women and members of LGBTQ+ are still underrepresented in AAA games today. Because representing minorities doesn't sell that well. The very conscious choice of making Nathan Drake the protagonist of Uncharted in 2007 continued this trend and so did Cal Kestis. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that it is inherently wrong to make a cis male person the protagonist of a game, I'm just saying that they all feel like the same person (no wonder we can draw so many parallels between these characters) and they are overrepresented in media in comparison to minorities and oppressed groups.
And honestly, I don't really care about people like Indiana Jones, Nathan Drake and Cal Kestis anymore. I've seen their issues and their character development a million times now and each time I felt a bit more distanced from them on a personal level. And the reason for that is their calculability. These characters became less and less human and relatable, as I've grown familiar with their stories, and more of an idealized version of someone who somehow always manages to make it out alive of a collapsing building in the last second (I mean, Cal even survives Darth Vader, like come on lol). These characters risk their lives on the daily, yet they seem to be immune to danger or loss.
Anyway, I'm sorry for the length of this comment. By no means do I want to delegitimize your experience with these games, as I said I did enjoy the Uncharted games myself, I just think that the Nathan Drake trope is an important one to mention in this context. I hope you have a nice rest of the day!
    Zolti, your boi

Whoa haha no I totally get it 😂 if hate "cinematic" experiences like the New God of war and other don't stuff and it's that formula that Is damaging gaming creativity, but I think there is a time and place for it and stars has the legs for it
