Really great point on tone!! I'd like to think that many of us are really looking for a "sonorous sound" when mixing... but that of course that is subjective. Similarly, when I studied Music we spent quite a lot of time listening to a variety of orchestras, and subsequently your ears pickup on 'your' favourites, and the attributes: the orchestra, the hall, the era, the conductor - heck, even French or German bow Bass sections!!
All these variables affect the tone of the sonorous sound... They all play Mahler 2 or 5, but they all sound different when you listen :)

I absolutely agree with you about tone being a key deciding factor when purchasing your next synthesizer. I've had the opportunity to play just about every poly currently on the market, including the Trigon 6, 3rd Wave, Quantum Mk2, OB-X8, Moog One, and as well as a few others, some of which I already own. I can honestly say the OB-X8 is the one I keep coming back to every time I go to Guitar Center as well as the Minimoog. I'm on my way to that Guitar Center right now as I'm typing this and I'm going to give the Trigon 6 a second try. I do know for sure, I want the OB-X8. It just has that beautiful tone. I have no doubt the Trigon 6 would also be a nice addition as well. With that said, I just can't see myself ever spending 5 grand on a Minimoog (because of it's limitations), unless I was rich and just had that kind of money to burn, of course.

@@janpieternieman5295 that's quite mature of you.
I had a MC707, it was the same exacting thing, only that you needed to get in under the surface via menu diving, it sounds exactly the same as a Juno or Jupiter X, they're not special, they're just MIDI controllers specific for the layouts of either synth.
The System 8 actually sounds better because it's ACB based, so again, wd on wasting your money, you could have gotten a UDOS6 module for the same money and have had a far more unique sound than something that is readily available to people on Roland cloud.

UPDATE: I played with the Trigon 6 and the Minimoog today at Guitar Center. After dialing up a sound on the Minimoog, I was able to dial up the same sound on the Trigon 6. After getting the settings just right, I hit a key on both keyboards and to be honest, they were so close that I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test. That just proves to me that it is definitely possible to get Moog-style sounds out of the Trigon 6, and it is very capable as a bass synth, too, as well as a poly synth.
With that said, I did have to work a little harder to get the settings just right on the Trigon 6 because the range of the parameters is much wider whereas the Minimoog parameters are just one huge sweet spot.
Also, if using the Trigon 6 for bass, I think using an external overdrive pedal or a tube preamp on it would definitely help to beef it up a notch, especially when you start adding resonance to the filter after closing it a bit. That would compensate for the loss bass. The Minimoog has a feedback circuit built in. The Trigon 6 does too. However, they behave differently. The Trigon 6 feedback changes the tone in a different way than the one on the Minimoog. Oh, and the distortion parameter on the Trigon 6 also changes the overall tone when adding it, eventhough it's nice thay it's there. So yeah, external processing, like an analog tube preamp, can definitely help to further shape your tone in this context, or just to simply get more drive or a hotter signal output from the synth without altering it's raw tone too much.

T6 is a Pro 3 Poly in ladder filter mode, people keep asking for a Pro 3 Poly and the T6 is it, it has a better ladder filter than the Pro 3.
The T6 is able to do things in a way that no other Sequential synth can do.

Hey, just found you, i have a pioneer as1 which is one voice of the prophet6, it has 495 presets by Smith with Pro One fans, it's easy to program and is a lovely glue between Juno, minimoog D, or Minitaur, and the digital dirt i also rely on,FM, (D50,M1), or ROMpler
