- The Hornby Valenta HST has just been released, so has the twin pack of MTU decoders to add to your existing models. I've already had several enquiries about what speaker is best for the HST and for me, theres only one choice of speaker, the megabass speaker. Find them on my website here: www.roads-and-...
It's worth mentioning that these can also be used in exactly the same way with Loksound 4, 5 or Zimo decoders too.

Thanks for the video! Saved me having to email you to ask about mega bass speaker mounting … tomorrow morning’s project!
Indeed, what a difference ! Thanks for sharing. I'll have a look in your shop.
Both Engine sounds are really good Paxman Valenta and the MTU the Paxman Valenta will always be my favourite sound
Just done mine and can highly recommended the speakers.
What a difference the mega bass speakers add! Thinking of sticking a TTS decoder in my old HST set and would definitely upgrade the speakers to these.
according to what i hear on here definitely!! I watched another mega bass fitting on YT and the valenta sound was tremendous!!!
@@davidcurrie8564 the Valenta engine is by far the best. What a sound they made. Was lucky enough to be given a “tour” through a 125 many moons ago as a kid and the memory stayed with me. I know they weren’t “economical” but like when F1 changed to hybrids, the change of sound made the 125 boring!
@@SJDewar1990 sod economical Stevie! the very sound of that 125 engine at full tilt raises hairs on the back of my neck! watch the 125 blasting through prestonpans on here YT
@@davidcurrie8564 I’ll be sure to check it out! You’re right about them making hairs stand up, they used to go full tilt on the line that i lived 2 minutes walk away from and you could feel them roaring past too!
I’m thinking of getting my MTU HST upgraded, and I think I’ve found just the right place! 😁

Hi!... Great Video! so much so I have bought 2 Hornby Valenta TTS for my HST pack thats coming and I'm going to put them into the two 66's just for now as I have a very hard time trying to get the 66 TTS decoder! Hornby are out of them and the waiting list is .. well? who knows!
Just fitted my speakers that I ordered from you and am pleased with them the sound is much better will be ordering more for my other TTS sound locos cheers
Very nice Richard, I do like the Mega Bass speakers, I get excellent results from them...Simon
Thanks Simon, they definitely transform this HST
I do like the Valenta better than the MTU but what a difference the mega Bass. Both quality sounding locos!
Thanks for sharing, this does make a big difference. I figured last week when I first heard them that with an upgraded speaker it would sound pretty decent. Iain
Yeah, the sound isn't bad at all and I didn't even explore all the different functions because I didn't want the video to be too long!
Certainly improved the sound
Based on your review, placed an initial order for four, earlier today. If I like, will be placing many more orders.
How did you get on with the speakers?
roadsandrails Been busy, since their receipt, so the plans are to start installing tomorrow. Have over forty locos, with TTS, so will be changing over the speakers, where space permits. Borrowing soldering equipment, from my club tonight.
Love that Valenta Sound 🔊
Sounds much better.....Thanks for the great video.....
Looking at maybe upgrading my HST speakers, I see you do the megabass speakers in 8ohm and 4ohm, which do you use in this video, thanks 😀
McMetro hi, 8 ohm for TTS
I actually think the Hornby speakers sounded better in the Valenta. You want the higher pitched scream on those- which the Hornby one does.
MTU however sounded better, but this engine has a more deep Bass sound which I actually prefer nowadays, more suited to your bass speakers. Nice video though mate.
Stuart Simmonds interesting take on it, I think maybe ‘megabass’ is the wrong name for these speakers because it implies that’s all they do, they are a full range speaker with a much better performance across the whole frequency range. Listening to them in person the high pitched scream comes across much better from the new speaker than the Hornby original, maybe it’s an issue trying to record the sounds with a compact camera and in built microphone. Thanks for the comment though, it’s good to hear different opinions, Richard
hi. mine doesn't move with my analogue controller. it only makes a low buzzing sound. I don't yet have a DCC controller to try it. do you think I have a faulty unit. many thanks
cavman543 DC running is disabled on these by Hornby, the only way to get them to run on DC would be to change CV29 with a DCC Controller
do you think I may have damaged it by trying to run it on analogue without first changing the cv setting?
cavman543 no, it won’t affect it
ok. that's a relief. thank you for your help.
Richard can you get these tts decoders reblown I've got the old type and they did work on my ecos controller now it can't read the chips any ideas?
They did run once bit odd at first now they won't even talk to the refuse part from buying new 1s witch I can do but if I can save my money I will?
BRENTLEA JUNCTION I just replied to your email, only Hornby can Reblow their decoders but it’s worth speaking to them I think before you buy any more
