- The Dragon's Dogma OST has been stuck in my head recently given the current hype for Dragon's Dogma 2. Since the first game came out so long ago, I was wondering if people still remember just how monumental Dragon's Dogma music was. Guess it's time for a retrospective!

Davi in the Japanese promotional materials, I remember there was ANOTHER 'theme song' which used the main harmony, a song called _Coils of Light_ sung by Raychell.
I don't know if it was ever used in Western trailers for the game as the lyrics are in Japanese, but I'd recommend if you love the DD soundtrack! :)
End of the Struggle plays whenever you gain the advantage over a large monster. So that's when you kill one of a Chimera's heads, blind a Cyclops and make it drop it's weapon etc, and it stays on End of the Struggle for the rest of the fight. Always such a hype moment, really makes you feel like you've turned the tables and are on the attack
Oh so it's actually kinda like a Proof of a Hero in the way they use it!
Only other game (other than proof of a hero in monster hunter) I can remember doing this is Twilight Princess. I’m sure other games do this too, but I love contextually dynamic music. Games have the unique opportunity to make the music reflect something a player is interacting with, I feel like there’s so much more potential for this than people really capitalize on.
I remember it playing when a monster fall on the ground, giving the arisen and pawns a better opportunity to hit it's weak point too !

incredibly pedantic thing but you have to kill 2/3 of the chimera's heads and not a cyclops off its feet for it to play

Man, Eternal Return is probably one of my most favorite videogame music of all time, so epic and grandiose. Listening to these musics again is such a nostalgia trip.
This game was simply before it's time. I am so happy people are rediscovering this. Maybe now is finally time for Dragon's Dogma to shine.😊
Been playing Dark Arisen since the Dragon's Dogma 2 stream. Miss "Into Free" that played in the vanilla version. Love the soundtrack
I was around a week into playing the game, and had yet to let the title track play out. I launched the game like any other day and got up to use the bathroom. The amount of confusion and bewilderment I felt when Into Free kicked off on my way back. Followed by a good amount of time letting the song play out multiple times. Was so sad when I found out that Dark Arisen removed it.

I own both versions, the vanilla for Xbox 360 and the remaster (literally same game but with dlc and better graphics)
Bitterblack Isle - Despair is my favorite track. It's that music you hear for the first time and think "I done f***ed up..."
A bit of Eternal Return (the main theme) plays when you go out at night. Leave either Cassardis or Gran Soren after nightfall and just try to listen for it. You can faintly hear a woman singing "Land and skies, and seas yearn. Finish the cycle of Eternal Return."
The tracks are masterworks all, you can’t go wrong.
I love the way you react to the music with the smiling and constantly punching the air, because I do the same 😅
Dragon’s Dogma OST is really incredible. I didn’t remember much of it since it’s been years I’ve played it, but some of the tracks immediately brought me back to Gransys!
Honestly, I was really hoping to hear some Dark Arisen tracks here too, the music in that DLC was just as godly as well!
Regardless, amazing video! Got goosebumps hearing all of these songs again, especially after so long.
I was going to play Coils of Light but it was going to more than double the length of the video. That one deserves a video of its own.

I can't believe your video came out literally 2 hours after I finished the game for the first time! It's a gem i've missed for years and finally decided to try it given the current hype for the sequel. I didn't expect it to be this good and so unique in many aspects. The music is amazing, and the End of the Struggle OST makes you feel so powerful and heroic when you turn the fight in your favour. The DLC OST is also very different from the rest, so emotional and makes the DLC final boss fight sound like an anime.

9:26 I so remember this theme playing after one of my flying meteors fell down and struck all 4 heads of an Arch-Hydra at once, it was very epic that this theme only plays in moments where victory is close at hand therefore ending the struggle.
So cool to learn that Davi not only played my favorite game but is covering the soundtrack here and he looks like he's having a blast doing so. He has such a fun, excited energy the whole video. Feels like this niche fandom has breached containment ever since the sequel was announced.
The only thing missing is the original Title-Screen music: I would have loved to see Davi listen to 'Into Free'. Regardless, awesome video!

I really liked "Into Free", the old intro before Dark Arisen.
Into Free is so out of place at first but it its so fucking memorable and made Dragons Dogma stand out to me.
the fact that the whole main theme lyric is about the arisen (main character) tale make it more immersive
I do remember cuz I've been replaying DDDA over and over again over the years. It's one of the games that have an really special spot on my heart, like MH, Nier, Soul Calibur and Metro series.
I have an particularly soft spot for the Dark Arisen - Coils of Light theme as it feels like it speaks a lot to me, both japanese and english versions of it are amazing.

To answer the title's question: YES! Whenever I run D&D games for my friends and big monsters are involved, Dragon's Dogma music is very often my first choice of music to put in the background - it has the perfect epic, blood-pumping vibe!
One of the greatest soundtracks of all time.
Not only that, but also the design of when to play the music is just immaculate.
Dagen for the title screen for DD1 Ps3 version was absolutely perfect
Great overview! I like everything I've heard of DD2's OST and I'm also glad they're keeping End of the Struggle for when you're winning a battle. My only gripe is that I haven't heard a single hint of guitar or drums which gave the original a lot of character

I regularly listen to the ost while writing or modeling. My favorite game and one of the best ost in gaming.
The more peaceful tracks are like a calming nostalgic lullaby to me these days.
gran soren's theme is just peak comf, especially after you're done doing a long side quest or you're over encumbered and need to empty your pockets
The 'Making the Arisen' track is incredibly catchy, perfect for one of the best character creation menus ever, haha.

Hell yes!!! Legendary game! I dont think I've ever seen another channel review DDDA's music before! Good stuff! If you feel like giving it a listen, Daimon's boss theme is also incredible. It references the main theme a lot.

The title screen/main menu music is the main theme of the game! It's just the first half of Eternal Return, whereas the leitmotif/"main theme" of the game is the last verse of Eternal Return ("Land and skies, and seas yearn - Finish the cycle of Eternal Return").
You weren't wrong, it just wasn't the whole song :P
i remember when i was a kid, i would keep fighting the cockatrice over and over again just to listen to the fight music, Wing of jets, even tho it was just the Griffin theme remixed to be more menacing, to me it felt like an an entirely new theme.
That song is still etched in my head, just naming it, i can still remember it so clearly.

I've never played this game, but...WOW! The music is tremendous! I kept finding myself directing the symphony, near the end of the video. 🤩 Just SO fabulously beautiful! It really pulls you into the POWER! Thank you very much, Davi. I really enjoyed this. 😀
Recently started playing this game again, for me it's one of those games you stop playing and restart over and over but hearing the music makes me want to play it again
It's always crazy to me how much the part at 8:20 sounds like the final phase Jhen Mohran Theme (like 30 sec in). There you can really see that Tadayoshi Makino worked on both games. Bangers both.

One of my favorite OSTs in DD Dark Arisen was the Gorecyclopse one. I was already on edge when I moved around that room but when the battle music started I almost peed my pants 😂
In my view, it wasn't just that the music was good - they "used" the music so well. End of Struggle playing with a slow-mo when the tide of the battle turns. Despairing Combat playing when fighting those Saurians in absolute darkness for the first time, telling you how dead you are. And my absolute favorite, Fire and Perdition playing as you run across a crashing bridge, dodging the Dragon's fire.
Itsuno is masterful in making the player feel all sorts of hype and badassery, I have to say.

8:37 burn the Griffin's wings to ground it; silence the Chimera's goat head; puncture the Cockatrice's throat pouch; cut off a Hydra's head... the game registers it as (pretend Gandalf is speaking) "you've gained the upper hand, and you're close to victory; don't stop now. fight! FIGHT!"
*that's* when End of the Struggle (or my preferred title, Imminent Triumph) is triggered: when you've essentially gained the upper hand. the game is encouraging you to keep going.
and why did you skip the end?! this is arguably the best part of the soundtrack!

I'm using some of the game songs on my dnd campaign, their buildup are always insane and their dynamic variations (calm, tense and extreme) always bring some flavor to epic moments. So hyped for the new one!

Yesss.. I loved the 'anime' feel to the soundtrack. The guitars... the amazing 'into free' song. Japanese pop rock feel amongst a bunch of crazy good jazz and medieval themes.

The Dragon's Dogma main theme is one of my favorite of all time. It always played at the most hype moments and just hearing it now makes me quite emotional. I'm still in disbelief DD2 is happening, and I hope we can catch this leitmotif in the most epic moments of the sequel!

What a pleasantly great surprise of a track to hear (the first one), thanks Davi Vasc. I'm tempted to buy this game now that I've seen that amazing intro cinematic is. Even cooler to hear how good some of the tracks are on piano compared to hearing mainly just the voice.
Speaking of Okami, I found and listened to many of okamis tracks and even bought it after your vid on the sun rises it. Thanks for that too.
I strongly recommend you check out "Coils of Light" from the Damon boss fight in this game, especially since you love the main theme so much!

The bell used in the main theme never fails to give me shivers. I really hope DD2 makes use of that same type of bell cause it's so good.

So one fun fact I know for this soundtrack is all large monster fights have two variations of the same track - One is more orchestral and one has a lot of electric guitars and drums added to it. For instance, 'Griffin Roars in the Heaven' shares the same track as 'Cockatrice: Wings of Jet Black'. I believe this is the case with Cyclopse, Chimera and the Drakes themes too. There is also an unused metal version of End of Struggle that I believe was then used in Dragon's Dogma Online.

The WIND IS PUSHING MEEE!!! Into free from the vanilla game blew my mind when I first heard it, actually bought it from iTunes not too long ago. all of the music in the game though is pretty darn great.
I love DD's OST! Soooo hyped for DD2!!! I'm assuming Mr Makino is in charge of the music for DD2, of course, but is it possible that he's not?

Oh also if you want to have an absolute blast, you should listen to the Daimon First phase track, Coils of Light. It's such an emotionally packed track to an amazing fight!

The final battle is also insane track. In game context that was one of the best experience in vanilla part of the game.

Cannot wait for Coils of Light. That was definitely one of the best experience i had in ANY videogame ever... Also the track that plays right before the boss, The Fallen City. This is just SO GOOD.
Soundtrack is overall brilliant all along, and the character creation song, man I've never forget it, also it's mix of "classic" medieval instruments, with electric guitar and that rythm, reminds me a lot of Noriyuki Asakura's work, if you've never listen to it, I really encourage anyone to take a listen to Tenchu or Way of the Samurai soundtracks, it's full of gems !
I love this game's soundtrack so much... the battle music for Daimon's second form is PEAK video game music, definitely one of best tracks in the game imo
Regarding the music, I was nine years old at the time and thought it did not match the dark fantasy style of the game, but when I started it up after a long time, it brought tears to my eyes. It's as if it represents my own state of mind in enjoying the game in a very pure way. And I miss it very much.
My favorite Dragons Dogma songs are the 2 themes of the 2. Daimon Battle (final DLC Boss).
"Coils of light" will always be one of my favorite final boss themes

Hello Mr Davi Vasc, I clicked this video the moment I see you are listening to one of my favourite games of all time.
On the topic of Eternal Return(Main theme of Dragon's Dogma) possibility of returning to Dragons Dogma 2, I agree it is such a good track to not be kept into the sequel. However, I'd argue that the song of Eternal Return is reflected upon the main story of the original Dragon's Dogma and suits its theme. From a designer and developer perspective, eternal return is not fit into the theme of Dragon's Dogma 2 Story since it is now about a power struggle for the throne and would likely get its own theme. Such as Coils of Light reflects the song for the Expansion DLC Dark Arisen. However, we may get the main track of the iconic Eternal Return such as the "How I have seen the Dragon's Dogma" since it is a song about the Arisen and is also in Coils of Light.
Also, you need to react to Coils of Light sir! Thank you for the video.
Actually, if you preorder DD2, you get an option to customize sounds and soundtracks that includes stuff from the original game.

Sad that Eternal Return didn't come back. If there were any songs to pick, that one as the main theme would be it. I'd take it even over End of the Struggle (especially since we have Reversal of Fate anyway). The song and all its leitmotifs carrying the whole soundtrack made it so memorable.
Hope DD2 OST will be as good :) Btw, will you ever tackle Lords of the Fallen (2023) OST? Would love to see your reaction to Stigmata, Anathema and In Light We Walk ;)
