    > disrespectful to use "braunstein"
A solution to this would be to have brausteins with Castle Falkenstein and say you are having a Falkenstein from that on.
Plus, ballroom dances would be truthful to the setting (which might increase jeffro's immersion).

They could just admit they are playing Blackmoor with its multi layered play styles which do not exist in Braunstein.
In Braunstein you do not even get to choose your own character.

    • @dundermoose
      @dundermoose  2 місяці тому

Honest question, if they called it a “Blackmoor” would that also be disrespectful? At some point words like Q-tip and Band-aid become the commoditized descriptors.

    • @griffithmorgan4966

@@dundermoose It would be a correct identifier. Why would I care?
Right now the BroSr calls his Tampon a Q-tip.
      The term is misleading.

    Thanks for the review.
Bummer I just saw a historical error in my text - oh well.
Yes, BroSR are very fixated on stealing the Braunstein name from Wesely because they do not understand what it is.
Sad to see you people disrespect Wesely so much.
The domain game is not a Braunstein. It predates it. It may be more of something from one of the British war game designers of the time if you want an attribution.
Just go read up on hyborea as it was an early campaign game system. (hope I got the name right.)

I do not know a a lot about Hyborea because I do not think it was a huge influence on the Blackmoor Bunch because they had Totten..
Really having fun with your chat replying to the responses from BroSR mouth breathers who leave insults, or other dumb comments. It's as if you have to take a low IQ test to join BroSR. ;)

We define Braunstein Play as "multiple independent actors operating in conflict under a fog of war." This derives from the Braunstein model of play where the players interact with the referee in succession one at a time and possibly in groups. The key feature of the game is that-- a la Diplomacy-- players can scheme and negotiate with each other when they are not conferring with referee. It produces extremely volatile play dynamics that are in distinct contrast to conventional play which is generally static in comparison. (Conventional play is defined as players generally operating cooperatively and mostly staying together in a single group and very rarely operating secretly, independently, or in conflict with the other players.)
A Braunstein type game with no conflict will generally be referred to as a LARP. A Braunstein type game with elaborate combat rules that become the focus of the gameplay will be typically referred to as a wargame. A continuing rpg campaign which allows for independent action on the part of the players can accommodate both play modes, alternate between them, or combine them.
An "Aways On" campaign that as run with 1:1 time becomes a sort of Continuous Braunstein because it has so many players operating independently under a fog of war. This type of play was developed by the BrOSR in an effort to recreate what we saw of Arneson's Napoleonics campaign in the justifiably infamous Blackmoor film documentary.

But you are not doing a Braunstein, everything you describe is off base.
You are just promoting stealing Wesely's game name - Smooth Move Ex-lax.

@@dundermooseI am working on starting up a roaring campaign from that book ... You would be surprised how hard it is to find people who have fun it before .......
The biggest takeaway, for the braunstein adjacent conversation, is his roleplay.
He gives every npc a list of attributes (like traveller) and then when an event pops up, he looks through the list of characters, freestyle roleplays the scenario, and then ends it with something that ties back to the wargame. Excellent stuff.

I think that if you view the content without the lens of a BroSR interpretation you will learn a lot.
The BroSR Jethro lens will cloud your reasoning in the same way that those who read Marx and Engels tend to view reality from the encapsulating falsehoods of communist dialectic.
The BroSr ideology and logic is very much cult-think in the same way.

@@griffithmorgan4966 Protest all you want. BROSR has sold more copies of your work than you have. You should thank us.
Your own work shows we use the term as it's been used for over fifty years. We are following tradition. You are trying to sever the term from the hobby for gross financial purposes.
Wesely innovated. The people who experienced his innovation told others about it using the name of his fictional town as the descriptor. Others (i.e. Arneson) then were inspired by his innovation and innovated themselves. And it has perpetuated itself because the term was useful. That's how innovation works. Your own work describes this.
I'm sorry you appear incapable of innovation yourself. Your work has been useful for documenting the field. And more should have been done earlier. But trying to halt time is a fool's errand. I may be a BROSR moron to you, but at least I'm not that dumb.

You sound like someone who wants free stuff - sad to say, communism collapsed a couple decades ago.
I live in the real world where people work to make money in order to live.
Yes, I am trying to profit from my hard work and I help other people profit from their hard work.
I have worked to help the Arneson family too. I was integral to the process of getting the Blackmoor trademark back in the family's hands by negotiating the process for them out of my own desire to right a wrong - didn't get paid for that.
Admit it, BroSr love it when I call you names - it's a weird kink you guys have.😄
