(Info)
"The Maple Leaf Forever" is a Canadian song written by Alexander Muir (1830--1906) in 1867, the year of Canada's Confederation. He wrote the work after serving with the Queen's Own Rifles of Toronto in the Battle of Ridgeway against the Fenians in 1866."

I’m so glad it’s not that crispy one that sounds like an old record
Calming anthem
The usual lyrics has God save our queen but now it's changed to God save our king
This canadian anthem is infinitely better than the current one. How dere they change it?
@@TripWagstaff5213 explain better, please.
@@natheriver8910 don't listen to him he is one of those Who blame everything on Quebec
@@primeministernico944 i still dont understand that led canada to abandon this masterpiece that this athem.
@@natheriver8910 this one calls more to civilization and values inherently in Canadian roots, and that which binds it together. Canada's been on quite an interesting "progressive" trajectory for many years. You might even say there's members of the Canadian government that have outright to distain for what Canada is these days. The slow gradual creep.
Probably not the only reason, but ideologically it had to have been on their to-do list and eventually got checked.
There is nothing "strong and free" about the current North and it's looking like it's by design.
@@natheriver8910 The Maple Leaf Forever wasn't ever officially Canada's anthem, despite common misconception, likely due to some de facto use. It has been and, in the circles that remember it exists at least, remains, a popular patriotic song. As to why they chose O Canada over this (or any other option), I cannot say for certain. However, the song does lean towards a more English (British, specifically) narration, and getting French-Canadians to go for something they don't like is politically tricky, to say the least. I don't know how much partisan politics played a part otherwise, considering there was still some 15 federally funded Indian residential schools I doubt that either side was trying to make some principled stand for an agenda, besides language identity. Canada's independence is a bit weird, we were a dominion for a while, then a dominion with a high degree of autonomy, and then fully independent from the UK (Besides sharing the same monarch, though for two separate independent monarchies).
Tldr: Both songs were (are) popular and have been used to represent Canada before independence, but O Canada is the only work ever officially adopted by Canada as its anthem (possibly due to the English leaning nature of The Maple Leaf Forever) due to Canada's long status as a dominion under the U.K., ending in 1982.
Definitely better than O Canada.
Not actually our anthem. We just like it a lot
Nice.
Can't be Prouder to be canadian !

Still find it hilarious that Canada changed their anthem to make it worse
If it's former, then why isn't there a year for when it was changed?
Anthem at heart? Maybe hope for the future. Canada hasn't been doing well in recent years. Effectively it's dying unfortunately.
It's nice to leave it open ended.
