I don't mind his play on the turn but his opponent is repping TT - AA which is never folding to a check/jam on the turn.
There’s a big difference between “dumb” moves, and bluffs that simply don’t work out because your opponent is actually holding something worth calling (or raising you with), such as that last hand between Dwan and Hansen-as well as some of the other hands shown in this video, and the important distinction between those two things should not be overlooked. Granted, some bluffs are “dumber” than others depending on the circumstances-and I get that-but bluffs in general are not inherently dumb just because they are bluffs. If you make a UA-cam video that seems to be portraying bluffs that fail as “dumb” moves, then you’re relegated to being clickbait, as may be the case here. Also, no one would ever punt a whole bunch of chips in ridiculous spots where they know they’re drawing dead, (or nearly dead) etc. and are going to get called holding jack-squat, so let’s not forget that what’s being portrayed as “dumb” (whether it actually is dumb or not) is often the result of one guy simply not knowing what the other guy has, and making the only move on the pot that can win it for him. We’ve all made failed attempts at bluffing in the game of poker before. It happens all the time, and it’s not automatically a dumb move to try to bluff at a pot; it just tends to look like one when it doesn’t work. I contend that some of the bluffs in this video were simply bluffs that were attempted at the wrong time more than they were “dumb”. Again, usually no one in his right mind would punt most or all of his chips in spots where he knows he’s drawing dead (or nearly drawing dead) if he knew that his opponent who has him beat is going to call or raise, so what’s being portrayed as “dumb” moves here are mostly in reality, simply bluff attempts that failed. In watching this video, we have the advantage of knowing what the players were holding as the hand unfolded. But none of the players knew what the other players were holding until showdown (or when all hands involved were turned face up on an all-in bet). By the logic that bluffs are somehow therefore “dumb”, then If that same bluff is successful, is the person who bluffed somehow a genius?
ya he really cant just call there and then be forced to fold with bottom pair if the spade bricks that was not a massive mistake at all. I think the biggest mistake there is just not folding that hand preflop
as much as I dislike Dwan, I don’t think his plays were anything but explorative bluffs he could afford in the last case, while the all-in was somewhat justifiable.
not sure if this was made before or after the hellmuth vs j.koon heads up duel match, but THAT hellmuth play is a LOT worse than the vs nick wright one shown here. 5 bet bluffed off like 1/3 of his stack with Q6o vs AA's (+ chips later in the hand). and unlike the nick wright match, he didn't come back from that pot to win that match (did beat n.wright, both in same tourney set up)
it's since hellmuth lives in the streets of exploitative play entirely. from that sometimes he'll look like a genius, other times one of the worst players you've ever seen. he's clearly not overall one of the worst players ever seen of course.
