  • he younger sister of the da Vinci quills is a long-haired marvel!
This is a hybrid of sorts, between a quill and a liner (rigger).
Not sure exactly what to do with it, but I love it!! :-)
Join me as I play around with it for the very first time.

Also I love that idea of loading your brush with two different colors! I never would have thought about that but I'm definitely going to give it a try. I can definitely see the appeal of both brush types. I think I'm going to have to get one type now and the other later. Thanks for such a helpful video!

Oh! hehehe... I see a lot of joyous experiments in your near future!!! :-D
Yes, mixing colors on the brush is a lot of fun, and worth trying with all sorts of brushes you have! The shape of the brush and also where you place the diff colors will give you different results. for example if you add the second color to the tip of the brush, or to its side. With flats or daggers you can place them side by side..
Good luck with deciding which you're getting first, and enjoy experimenting!!!!
Thank you so much for these comments!

Thank you, it was so relaxing watching you enjoying this brush! I have Casaneo 498 0&2 and I just love playing around with them! I never managed to get a nice elongated shape the way you do, and I thought that it was due to their softness, but watching you, I realized I need more practice! Your control is so amazing, you make it look so effortless.

I have trouble deciding to buy the Da Vinci Colineo 412 or the Da Vinci Spin Synthetics 488. I think the Casaneo would be to soft for my more springy preference.

Do you mean the Cosmotop Spin? I have a couple I bought years ago, that for some reason I didn't enjoy so I never use them..! I can give them a try over the weekend and let you know my thoughts :-)
The Casaneo brushes are definitely on the soft side. Both the Cosmotop Spin and the Colineo are springier, as you said.
I like the feel of the Colineo, my only issue is with the handle which isn't comfy for me personally. With my smaller brush it's ok, with the larger one it bothers me more. Though maybe that's not an issue for you.
I made a video of trying the Colineo brushes, if it could help:

@@TullaCreative thanks a bunch, I mean the spin 418 series but I don’t have experience with them yet. I think the Colineo might be in between the Casaneo and Spin but also more expensive

@@emmamariamakes Oh! I looked it up real quick. It is squirrel hair which is supposed to be quite soft! It looked soft in a demo video.
I only use synthetics so I don't have first hand knowledge. The Casaneo is immitation squirrel.
In that case, for a springy brush, I would suggest the Colineo :-)

The regular casaneo Quill brushes you have are the 498 series, correct? I've been looking for a comparison of the two series so I can decide which to purchase.

Hi WiltingSoul :-) Yes! the "regular" Casaneo quills are the 498, and the long-haired one is 490.
So glad I was able to give you a bit of a comparison of the two, help you decide which you prefer (to start with!)
Of course a lot depends on what you enjoy and how you use them, but I really love the 498, especially the size 0. For a while it was even my "one brush I would take to a desert island" Lol :-)
