@@MrsPenPal Hi! I was joking about all our videos being that blurry back then. Some of them were better. But not much!! BWAHAHAHA! This one looks like it was from an old black & white TV show. TV broadcast signals in the 50's and early 60's were very, very poor quality compared to today's standards. And add to that the analog transmissions were fraught with static interference from electrical activity in the atmosphere and from "ghosting" caused by echoic reflections of the signal from nearby buildings and shimmering tree leaves if they had a static electric charge on their surfaces. And you could usually see the individual raster scan lines in the cathode ray tubes!! The struggle was real for us old geezers. (And we had to walk to school through six feet of snow with cardboard for shoes....and it was uphill both ways! ....No, wait. That was Bill Cosby! LOL!)
What else can you say about this masterpiece. The greatest duo of all time. Thunder and lightning. Try Unchained Melody, You’ve lost The Loving Feeling and Rock And Roll Heaven. Try matching these voices against anything today. That why after 55 years we are listening to it. And no, it’s not longer. That’s how long songs lasted back then. Thx

11.5 K... 10 December 2020 I love the Righteous Brothers! It is truly hard to top those older singers in any genre. They had no tricks that they could fall back on to help out their vocals back then. They were either on point with them, or they didn't make it in the music industry.
A lot of songs in those days were shorter because of AM radio. There was a limit on the length of the songs. I think because of advertising or FCC rules. When FM stations became popular, they allowed longer songs so artists recorded longer ones. Peace to you. 🙏
Back in the day, radio/music pros thought the public wouldn't accept longer songs. Many songs came in 2 versions, one for radio airplay, and one for the album. The FCC really had nothing to do with it. It's also easier to fit shorter songs into a rotation clock. But, some classic examples of longer songs back then are McArthur Park. Inna-gadda-da-vida, Hey Jude, Layla,etc. Just my 2 cents as a radio guy from the 70"s and 80's
In the fifties and sixties the major way music was sold was on 45 RPM records and there was only a little more than three and a half minutes on a side so songs had to fit that format and radio stations scheduled their time around that time limit.

I remember the song. I thank they were before your time and you heard it played by an older member of your family. I'm 64 but remember the song. But didn't remember they were White. I have nothing against my White brothers and sisters, I couldn't remember the group that sing the song. Used to listen to them when I was young. Also back then they would put White people on album covers of Black singers to sell the records. Another comment you made about the talking in the middle of the song, it was common in Black groups( The OJays, The Temptations, The Spinners, The Dramatics and many more). They most likely listened to a lot of Soul music to sing songs like that or had a Black music writer. But it don't matter, I listen to them back then and I still listen to them. I applaud them. GREAT JOB!!!
This was recorded in mono- yes, as stereo was just being introduced on the market and you paid extra for the records if they were in stereo version. Yes there was an extended version but most all songs back then were 3 minutes or less in duration.
I think you would really enjoy "DREAM ON" by the righteous Brothers. It is in color, the quality could be better, but it's all we got. Bill and Bobby both do an excellent performance.

One thing about this era of music.... There is no swearing, no explicit content, no auto tune, minimal post production but it has the ability to melt people's hearts, and make them feel good...all by the power of being actually able to sing, write music and deliver it all with passion. Long before Hall and Oates, who are also wonderful, this was Blue Eyed Soul. Loved the Righteous Bros. back in the day, and still do. Unfortunately this is the whole song. Songs used to be shorter. This was from a Rock & Roll Show called "Hullaballoo" which was one of many Rock & Roll Shows on TV at the time in the 1960's. The most popular was American Bandstand and his "Other" Show "Where The Action Is". Other Shows they did were Shindig. Overall if you were a Rock Star in the 1960's you did the Following Shows. American Bandstand, Where The Action Is, Hullababloo, Shindig, Shivaree, and The Lloyd Thaxton Show. Lloyd Thaxton was the creator of Tiger Beat America's Longest Running Teen Magazine and they were on the very "First" Cover. In 1971 the Publishing House that created Tiger Beat created Right On the "First" African American Teen Magazine. No Honey, it's not. Back in the day songs only went around 3 1/2 Minutes.

There are versions with a longer intro and expanded fade-out, but it only adds 30 seconds or so at the most to the length of the song.

Back in the day the songs weren’t usually much longer than 1 1/2 minutes. That mold was broken for them with “ You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling “.

This was from a Rock & Roll Show called "Hullaballoo" which was one of many Rock & Roll Shows on TV at the time in the 1960's. The most popular was American Bandstand and his "Other" Show "Where The Action Is". Other Shows they did were Shindig. Overall if you were a Rock Star in the 1960's you did the Following Shows. American Bandstand, Where The Action Is, Hullababloo, Shindig, Shivaree, and The Lloyd Thaxton Show. Lloyd Thaxton was the creator of Tiger Beat America's Longest Running Teen Magazine and they were on the very "First" Cover. In 1971 the Publishing House that created Tiger Beat created Right On the "First" African American Teen Magazine. No Honey, it's not. Back in the day songs only went around 3 1/2 Minutes.
