    Lyrics:
I was standing by my window
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away
    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
    There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
I went back home, home was lonesome
Oh my mother, she was gone
All of my family, there was crying
For our home felt sad and alone
    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
    There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
    Undertaker, Undertaker
    Won't please, please drive slow
For that lady you are holding
Lord, I hate to see her go
    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
    There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky
    Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, Lord, by and by
    There's a better home a-waiting
In the sky, Lord, in the sky

There's just something about the banjo being an unexpectedly emotional instrument that makes this rendition so powerful

I've lost my mother to cancer in november 2021. My grandma also passed away on Christmas 2021, she just couldn't live without her daughter... Now I have to live without them both and it's the hardest thing I've ever experienced. They meant the world to me, each of them were like a mother & father for me. Rest in peace, my dear ones! I'll always love you and cherish your memory! I hope you're happy there in heaven!
Thank you, TDS, for this beautiful song!

Love that you include “religious” songs in your repertoire - some of these songs are so beautiful, so wonderful, that they appeal greatly even to non-Christians like myself. Well done, Dead South!

I’m a Christian myself, and I’d have to agree with you, there’s something about those Appalachian hymns that hit different. I’d pay to see the dead south do a rendition of “Wayfaring Stranger”

This song is the only one that makes me cry. It was one of my grandpa's favorite songs, the day The Dead South (my favorite band) released this song my grandpa passed. I was unable to play this song for him. I know he would have loved it.

I miss my mom sometimes, she isn't dead but disowned me. It's hard to hate her because it wasn't all bad all the time. She was a worship leader her evangelical holier than thou. But she had a beautiful voice & would have loved this song. Bravo guys your music is beautiful.

My family has a gathering every Aug at our family cemetery and there's always someone who sings this for the crowd, the family usually plays it at funeral services as well. So many memories of lost loved ones and the bitter sweet "hello's" of family you haven't seen in a long time in this for me.
