R.I.P my heart goes out to the friends and family of that nurse!
When I heard about this I was so sad. The DJ's have to live with this for the rest of their life.
"We don't want to cause any trouble"
yeah you fucked that up.
There's a world of difference between calling a pizzeria, and placing a daft order to annoy the manager, and trying to dupe somebody into revealing sensitive medical information on somebody.
The radio station involved also got a 14 year old girl to admit to being raped at age 12 in a lie-detector "prank" so they have no problem with plumbing the depths.
I'm a nurse. I've fielded many calls from families. I can easliy see how recieving an unexpected call from a famous or important person might leads to temporary lapses in judgement. After all, it's obvious that both nurse heard in the trasnscript genuinely believed they were speaking to the Queen.
Am I the only one that didn't find this prank even remotely funny?
+Mineav nope. i think its disgusting, they should mind their own business and also the lady on the phone committed suicide after the prank due to embarrassment and depression.
+katie bray Actually, the nurse who first answered the call was the one who committed suicide, not the nurse who they were having a full length conversation with.
Yes you are
Very sad, poor woman RIP. NOBODY knows what was going through her head at the time, this phone call may have been the final straw with a lot of private personal stress, so really shouldn't be speculated on. She sounded like a lovely, genuine caring nurse like so many of them. Respect.
The accent was hilarious and nothing like the queen's. Secondly - Queen would not call the hospital this way.... and the corgis ... that's just funny.... Poor nurse though.
they put her in the national spotlight after that prank and she probably thought she was going to lose her job and not support her kids, poor woman. goes to show you never know what people are going through...
I'm glad someone came out and said this, obviously it's a tragic event, but I can't help but feel sorry for the 2 DJ's since no malice was meant and it was actually a good prank, I'm gobsmacked that someone would leave their children motherless over such a trivial non-event
Your comprehension is correct, only some people need to blame others in order to consolidate their weakness of not being responsible for themselves.
Its just come over the tv that the husband is absolutely livid with the hospital, go figure that one out & he works for the same hospital......... truth is not too far away now.
Saldanha had reportedly attempted suicide twice before. She had taken an overdose of pills on 30 December 2011 during a family trip to India. After that attempt she was rushed to a private hospital in Mangalore and treated for "self harm". On 8 January 2012 she is believed to have attempted suicide again and was treated at Father Muller Medical College Hospital for head injuries suffered in a "fall". After several days in intensive care Saldanha was admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward and treated for depression. She was discharged after three days and given a nine-month course of anti-depressants. Her family was warned there was a risk that she might attempt suicide again.
I remember going to school, a few years ago, listening to a prank call segment EVERY SINGLE DAY on the radio. Sure it wasn't on as big a scale as this call, but it was all in good fun. Unfortunately it's all fun and games until someone gets hurt.
The nurse that killed herself must have had some sort of predisposition, the whole hoax would have been forgotten about in a week.
the djs should sue the familiy. they did nothing wrong and there was nothing malicious about this call. people need to fuckin' lighten up and stop taking life so seriously.
This was not just a "prank call", it was a tricky, nasty and immoral way to get a scoop and some useless information, to get some cheap fame out of it.People have been hurt buy this.No one is laughing now, not even a smile.Poor nurse Jacintha Saldanha took it all on herself, may her family be strong and overcome this tragic, our hearts are with you!
Granted, while no one could have foreseen this "prank" ending in such tragedy, there was never any doubt that there would be serious ramifications for this poor nurse when they followed it through. This was a woman with young children who gave her time and energy to helping those in need and even if she had not taken her own life, she would still have been publicly humiliated on a global scale. They risked the destruction of the life of an innocent woman either way and that is deplorable.
actually Jashintha was the first nurse who put the call through, not the one who released the confidential information.
while this was a sad occurrence, i feel its a bit of a grasp for straws in blaming her death solely on the prank call …
i understand the family would be suffering unimaginable loss and looking for answers & someone or something to blame. but to again pin this on one phone call is a denial of the true situation …
on the subject of the call, DJs do this kind of thing all the time all over the planet, and i feel its a case of feigned indignity on the part of many people who, would have, in the past laughed at these kind of pranks …
bringing up another sad case, many of the people who directed anger at the press when princess diana died, are the exact same people who keep the paparazzi employed when they continue to buy the gossip mags these pics end up in …
that said, it truly is a sad happening, but to seek this as a target for vengeance and an easy answer is misguided.
peace M
do you think i care
How thick are they falling for this lol
If the British media calling for blood had not given the 'royal' prank such a high profile coverage, perhaps Nurse Saldanha would not have been as devastated. The world didn't know her name and didn't need to until it was released by the British media. It wasn't the DJ's who put her under constant pressure after the prank. Who placed her in the spotlight and continually reminded her of the prank, it was the British media. They milked the story for all it was worth and it back fired on them too!
The lady who killed her self had depression anyway that's why
Grant Pickering or she would be scared that Mi5 would probably kill her etc
Haha love this prank
You love the prank that caused a woman to kill herself. Your disgraceful
Whatever grammer nazi
they're not actually. they're extremely remorseful and had no intention of causing any personal harm to anyone.
I dont think its 2day fms fault because they were being very nice to the nurse.
It's always very welcoming to have a sensible person from Brittain make such a justified comment & see the reality & speak the truth against those attributing blame on the DJ's. Well done.
This cannot lead a person to commit suicide. They did nothing wrong at all and didn't say anything mean or nasty. She would of had other problems and it was just a coincidence. Everyone shut up and stop blaming these DJs. I am Australia and I support them 100%
That is not an apology, it is actually a bunch of excuses.
It seems to me that the only people who are excepting this with dignity, are the nurse's family. I hope that non of them read the comments some people left on youtube,so rude, so low, so much hatred between two beautiful countries.....I AM IN DISBELIEVE MYSELF. All I can say is, NOBODY IS PERFECT, and we all made mistakes at one time or another.
I wouldn't apologising, you were right the 1st time
Don't we all love a good prank call? The djs should not feel guilty for the death of the nurse.
I am Australian and these DJs did nothing wrong. All radios do prank calls and something as little as this cannot lead to suicide. The nurse would of had many other problems and this could of just been a coincidence. This is not the radio DJs fault but imagine the guilt that they would be feeling? Leave them alone,
She left a note about the prank call which led to her death.
No one got permission from the hospital or the the nurses. That is one way in which the law has been broken.
Why would they feel it necessary to hate on the kids who lost their mum?
its a prank call..if anyone is to blame its the hospital for breach of confidentiality. The djs did nothing wrong. In fact its highlighted a serious issue which is now being reviewed.
Your army is made from second hand material brought from the US or BRITAIN, but i do not question the braveness of Australian army.
It is the nurse who puts the call thru who killed herself. Not the nurse doing all the talking.
How forwarding a call can make you suicidal is beyond my comprehension...
Alan Jones thought he was going to get away with starting the Australia day riots, but he didn't.
These "entertainers" (nothing funny about anything they say or do) will not get away with causing the nurses death, and will be always remembered for not apologising and attempting to blame the victim.
That's the facts.
They already have. They apologized as soon as they found out, AND even did interviews on TV, where they again apologized.
Isn't it amazing now with all the news bulletins, they are attaching the Lifeline number for anyone with any issues.....................speaks volumes.
I thought it was disgusting before the nurse committed suicide!!
And another,
About me:
I am a part of the exiled Proto European Celtic diaspora scattered around the world by the Saxons in the famine and deportation era of the 19th century. I love my culture and the Land of my fathers Wales though I am a prisoner against my will here in Australia. My heart longs for the land I have never seen where my people live, it longs to be rid of and free from Saxon rule. I am a writer and a journalist for the advocacy of my peoples cause and their liberation.
I think what really made her kill herself was the fact that it was shown all over the world. Nobody complained till the situation escalated, then everyone jumped on the hate band wagon.
As for the Hospital, they are not without blame. A private hospital which is hosting Royals should not have an unattended switchboard or one which is attended by a nurse not properly trained in those duties. The hospital put her in the line of fire but have accepted no responsibility for their slack procedures and management.
I'm sorry but why am I in the wrong for thinking its a sad thing that happened? its wrong of someone to prank call a hospital. what does it matter if I thought it was wrong before she committed suicide?!
A 46 year old woman destroys her childrens lives by taking her own life for passing on a phone call, 11 seconds of her life............
You can tell they were trying to be more and more outrageous and obviously fake as the call went on to tip the nurse off that they were just prankers.
Remember People..
Heal Your Senses Through Soul..
Heal Your Soul Through Senses... (Oscar Wilde)
You are a liar, she specifically blamed the dj's and 2dayfm in her notes, and you know it.
YOU MAKE YOUR BED, YOU SLEEP IN IT. Dont say you werent warned, you did have a choice!
No, the majority DON'T agree that this was murder. Read through the comments again and disregard those made by "cranyonrye".
I seriously doubt the nurse who transferred the call was mentally stable.
these guys deserve a medal
What a senseless tragedy.Prayers to the victim's family.
they didn't kill her everyone should feel sorry for the dj's
Lifted form The Australian -
"Under the hospital's protocol it is forbidden to put people who call the publicly advertised telephone number through to the ward - a rule that Saldanha, who had worked there for four years, would have known. In such cases a message should instead be passed on."
The breach happened at Saldanha's end when she fell for the prank.
The 2nd nurse assumed that bec the call cleared Saldanha therefore it's legit.
She is far from innocent, nobody was murdered, she bailed on a family.
Not to say the family have any right to take billions to pay for them doing nothing.
maybe the kates private nurse gave the indian nurse a mouthful for transferring
the call after realizing it was a prank. it is not right to fool people no matter what. Prank callers must be held accountable for the call it self .
Humiliating an Indian nurse? She spoke for about 5 seconds. There's nothing to be humiliated about. If anyone's to be humiliated, it should be that nurse that revealed all those private details about Kate Middleton. I hear that nurse hasn't committed suicide and is fine and well.
For someone to decide to commit suicide for a prank that she wasn't even a part of, they'd have to be very depressed before the prank or mentally unstable.
The first honest words you have said, well done.
They never apologized. What words did they say that are an apology?
They did not apologize.
They should be made to apologize to the kids of the woman they helped kill.
No the one who answered & passed the call over to the nurse who did all the talking.
excellent point, sir.
Exactly. There have been much worse prank calls done by radio hosts. You can easily search for them on UA-cam.
there was absolutely no malice in this prank call, and don't understand why the nurse commit suicide??
As it turns out, that nurse had made two attempts to kill herself in the past, had been admitted to the psychiatric ward of a hospital, and prescribed antidepressants. That's right, all this occurred BEFORE the prank.
No one in the right mind would commit suicide over a minor prank like this.
I guess you and cranyonrye owe everyone here an apology, mate. LOL.
Why can't we all just be friends.. :'(
Exactly. For her to have killed herself over a prank call that she wasn't even the target off makes her seem even less mentally stable.
"Ah yes, just hold on..." (2 seconds on the line)
The news has just arrived here in America.
it wasnt the prank call that was only part of what happened , it was the staff afterwards who made fun of her afterwards her own coworkers are responsible for her death .
Australia is a great example to the world of a successful functioning multicultural Democracy. It has helped the tiny neighboring country of East Timor gain its independence and aided many countries in the Asia-Pacific region. She was involved in both World War I and World War II and helped defeat Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan and also fought alongside the United States in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Exports include agricultural products as well as Iron Ore, LPG and Gold.
Pity people don't get as riled up over world hunger, child abuse and the death of innocent victims in senseless wars. In my country of origin Sweden, Queen Silvia would have just delivered a hand written note to all the radio stations with a full description of her daughter-in-law's condition together with a basket of home-made chocolates and all by bicycle I might add. She did this when Prince Carl had to have a boil lanced in 1986. Worked a treat. No prank calls were needed.
No, I most certainly wouldn't. But sometimes people make mistakes, and that sucks. It's all part of being human. Lots of people have to live with things they're not proud of, but that's just it. They have to live with it.
thosto sto golo afstralo, love your comments!
There are pranks that are ok and pranks that are not okay. We are talking about YT but a station. Wendy Harmer, who used to do the 2Day breakfast show, said the practice when she was doing the show was to 1. identify it is a prank and 2 get permission before broadcasting. It appears that both the radio station and the hospital did not have appropriate systems in place and have trained their staff appropriately. But the DJs and their team are responsible for making the call in the 1st place.
They pretended to be crying for the children who have lost their mother, but as you can see from their comments they find it funny, and 2dayfm employees say they hate Muslims and are happy she died.
Nice work 2dayfm, you got some real talent.
Why hate on kids who just lost their mum? I don't care what colour they are it is just not funny or cool.
No one made that nurse kill herself. I think this prank was lighthearted and great.
There's a point, harm.. 2 DJs were trying to play a casual joke, one from which nobody could ever conceivably get hurt, one which would (and has succeeded in doing) make people smile, laugh. At the very worst, the woman may lose her job, for which she could sue the radio station for, and get compensated. Now, if you will, take the woman, take the woman who has a family, kids, dependant on her, a woman who would take their mother from them. Tell me, who's caused the more harm?
Wrong! The corporate company they work for will give a pay out...the DJ's will also be compensated.
I don't get this, a few days ago everyone was joking about it, now someone has committed suicide and everyone is angry? The chances are this lady had other mental issues as well, and I'm sure she wouldn't have been hassled as much as the lady that answered the questions.
I'm glad they did this prank, and now it's hopefully allowed us to be a bit more aware of mental illnesses.
Those impressions were atrocious, yet humorous. How could anybody have fallen for that? The D.J.s did no wrong in my opinion.
She killed herself after uttering a 13 word phone gretting? A PHONE GREETING? Nup. There's something else here. Marital problems, a love affair, work problems, something else was causing her deep grief. The phone call was the trigger that brought about that suicide. Def!
Of all people, it was the ward nurse who should have died of embarrassment. Not Jacintha.
Obviously they should apologize, that would be the best thing for them to do. They are more concerned about money than being decent human beings.
One was done without any malice behind it and the other was done to piss off the Pizza shop employee.
This'll be the only time I reply to you, mate. I don't normally "feed trolls."
The pure & simple fact of this matter is, a woman answered a phone call, all of 11 seconds in total, passes that call on & then committs suicide leaving behind 2 children, the look on their faces when on tv almost gives the impression they were aware of her mental instability, was not a matter if but when.
When all the news bulletins came on about this, they attached the Lifeline number for anyone with mental issues to ring them, how obvious is that.......very......
This video's 8 years old, hasn't the channel got better video's to upload
Well there's another story, it was in the earliest bulletins she self medicated.
You are the one commenting about other underlying issues not me.Australians should be ashamed. My condolences to the British nurse's family.
No, Australia's got nothing to be ashamed for. The suicidal woman did it herself. It anyone's to be embarrassed by the call, it should've been the nurse that gave out all the private information.
There's nothing wrong with this prank call, they did nothing wrong. It's the media which blow's things out proportion.
Yesterday it emerged that a suicide note was found alongside her body.
She had not told her family that she was involved in the hoax call incident in any way, meaning the suicide note could provide the only clue to her state of mind when she "chose" to take her own life.
You have defeated all your foes, there are none left to confront you.
The England vs Australia thing is a deliberate corporate distraction from the facts.
Though I still think the prank was sad and pointless, the nurse could hardly blame the 2 DJ's, as she tranfered them through without a single hesatation.
thanks.
If these two clowns had just respected a pregnant woman in hospitals privacy none of this would have happened.
I think you need to check your facts. The DJs and their team thought up the idea and made the call. They then sent the recording to management/legal dept who okayed them to put it air. I am all for funny pranks, but not ones that seriously violate another person's privacy or puts another person's career or job at risk. Your employer cannot require you to do something that is unethical.
Poor lady hung herself and was actually found alive but couldn't be revived, she did leave her family a note.
Again, you've read the apology. Stop saying that they're not sorry when I've already shown you a transcript of the full apology. If you want to WATCH the apology, I suggest searching for it on UA-cam. lol.
You've been on here for about 2 weeks now, mate. Get over it and get a job while you're at it. Not many people share your views on the incident.
it is not a crime to prank call somebody once as it was not harassment and they even used horrible accents. She should not be dead but there is no crime intended on that as she did not do her job right and that is it.
