Dock seems way too expensive at is not rugged for portability do you recommend for sports shooters ? Thx
I'm an engineering student in my final year and owner of one of these bad boys. Almost all the software that I use has been optimized for Silicon chips and if it isn't, Parallels does the job. I run FEA analysis on Parallels and it's faster than the Windows laptops of other people in my course. The M1 is still a beast and I barely need to bring a charger to campus!
Edit: it is the base model (8 Gb of RAM, 256 Gb of SSD)
What engineering program? do you think it would be good for a mechanical engineering student?
Here’s hoping M1 Macs are not dropped arbitrarily in the near future.
I bought a MacBook Air M1 a couple months after it released. 8GB RAM 256GB Storage. After years of owning it, I love how it helps for my studies and work when it comes to productivity. It’s bottom of the range but it still surprisingly pushes.
My wife has a M1 MacBook Air. But I ordered it with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD. It has been a solid work computer for her for over two years. I don’t think the current $699 model is intended for a work environment, but would be perfect for the average home user. Hopefully people will see them at Walmart and choose them over a PC laptop, and join the Apple family.
The M1 chips are still a beast.
They are!
Yeah I still mines I love it
@@brandonsmith6962 Apple made such a big jump with its silicon, even if it is 3 years old, they will be kicking for still probably the next 7-10 years for normal work. They're so good.
For what I do today the m1 loads apps and processes virtually instantly. I don’t think I could recognize anything faster than instant. 🤷
It's cheaper than an iPad with keyboard case 👍
I love my M1MBA. I love the wedge. I maxed it out w/1 TB drive & 16 MB memory. I only wish it had 1 more port.
Great video. I'm watching this on a 2015 MacBook Air, running Monterey. It's not zippy, but it plays UA-cam videos just as well as anything else. I don't get this "the M1 is good enough for web browsing" thing. It's good enough to edit 4K video in Final Cut Pro or to manage a Logic Pro session with 80 tracks... both of which I've done on my M1 Mac Mini with 8 GB RAM. I totally agree that you should get an M3 if you have the money, but anyone buying an M1 should not feel like you're getting something that can just browse the web.
thank you for saying this!
Their standard of "okay" is too high for average consumers.
Just bought the M1 yesterday T walmart and I am loving it!❤
I love the wedge design of the MBA m1. The design of the m2 and m3 simply bring back the design of 20 yr old Mac’s I used in a former life.
By the time m1 isn’t enough the m3 will be 699, you’ll get years out of this machine
Thanks, this was very helpful. My wife has a laptop issued by her employer. She's about to retire and will have to turn it in. We're leaning hard toward the M1 based on her needs. You did a great job explaining the differences between the M1, M2 and M3. The one thing I think she should consider, though, is the longevity factor. The M3 would better future proof her and she can now get an educator's discount from Apple, but it is not that much.
As a primary work computer: it depends what you do.
I have one for when I need a laptop and it's great, but I have an M2 Studio next to it and 2 full sized PCs with 64GB RAM, and various RTX cards for both playing and running LLMs.
I also worked on it for a month while traveling and it is a nice little machine. I code, run admin tasks and work on databases.
Hey, it can even run some light LLM models when I need it.
50 tabs? Giant sheets? Games. No. As a good *NIX based on-the-go machine: perfect for me.
Ive had the M1 MacBook Air almost since it released. got it on sale at Best Buy for $899 December 2021. I really like the wedge. With that said though, I've never held the M2/M3 Air.. but from UA-cam videos I don't like the goofy big rubber feet. I do like Face ID and MagSafe though.
Hopefully I'll update when the Air is at like an M10 or something, cause I mainly use it to stream video and audio. I also like the cheaper stuff for that reason.
Just a point of order on history: Wal-Mart has actually sold Macs before but it was a long time ago. When the Performa line first launched models like the Performa 200 and 400 were available to purchase in Wal-Mart stores.
There are no significant CPU or GPU design improvements in the M2 and M3 over the M1. The only reason for a slightly higher performance is increases in clock frequency which generate more heat. The M4 is about 15% faster at a given clock frequency. This means that the M1 is still completely usable. It is more important to fit 16 Gb of RAM and a 512 Gb SSD than to buy a newer processor.
If the M1 can get you five years of use, amortized (meaning you divide the cost over five years) isn’t that bad of a deal in terms of Total cost of ownership. Bonus, take the cost of the M3 and amortize it over ten years to see which one is more economical.
Ps, “economical” is not to imply more value. “Value” depends on what problem the device solves for you now and overtime.
Anything is worth it if it fits your needs. My MacBook is pre M1 and does what I need.
I love the m1 it’s still a beast and plus if you plus the iPhone as a web camera the continuity camera makes the m1 super beast mode
I bought a refurbished one today for 599, think it will do just fine
Nice! congrats!
@vtstev can I ask where you got your refurbished from?
@@sucdisagal4105 Guessing Best Buy, but I think it only has a 90 day Geek Squad warranty.
The oldest one was Simply THE BEST !
I’ve had my m2 air since it came out, thing works just as new, can’t see when I should upgrade
In a vacuum, $699 is a great price for the M1… until you factor in the refurbished M2. By all accounts, Apple refurbished gear is as good as the new stuff, so saving up the ~$150 difference to get the M2 should be worth it, considering it is 2 years newer
Even if prices were switched, I would prefer the M1 model. Not having a notch is worth $400 extra.
Glad Walmart brought these onboard , the wife wanted one so I bought one plus apple care. And I used my discount 👍 bet ya can’t do that at the Apple Store.
I had to set this display up and so many questions and sold a few so far.
Awesome!
Any idea when the new iPad Pro 11 “ is coming out?
Now lol
I have an M1 MacBook Air on my lap - 16gb RAM 1tb storage. I bought it used and it is definitely worth what I paid for it.
Awesome! I always use the more powerful ones but the lightweight airs are crazy. The M1 is nuts. I wish Apple made a new 12-inch one though!
I bought my MacBook Air M1 back in October for $750, still works and looks like new
Sweet!
Is that m1 air is enough for learning Full stack development in 2024 ?
I wanna know this too😢
I just ordered the M1 from Walmart. I just need it to port my mobile games that I make to iOS. If I love it I’ll get the M3 eventually.
So you do iOS development? How does the M1 perform while working?
Is it just me?? He sounds like the guy from ZoneOfTech
I just want it to watch Netflix and anime ima get this for sure soon
Would you say the M1 Air is a better buy than a refurb 2022 M2 Air for $825? Thx!
You're really splitting hairs. Personally, if the price was $700 or $825, I'd go for the M2. I like the design better, the screen is slightly bigger, and you have a faster processor. but I'm also one to drop $4K on a 16" MBP.
I got mine price matched to Costco's price of $649 and couldn't be happier. Is it the most powerful MacBook in the world? No. But for the money I can't really complain. This will easily get me through school and is a way better value than buying a used MacBook for around the same price if not more.
Watching this video on a 2012 MacBook Air.
The M1 MacBook Air is a masterpiece. Great for audio, video, photo editing and even gaming. As an audio/video professional, On my previous Non-Retina Intel based MacBook Air, I've worked on several audio projects with 65+ audio tracks. I've edited, exported and uploaded several videos to UA-cam and for other clients. The M1 MacBook Air is a massive improvement to that machine. The design of the M1 MacBook Air is beautiful and modern and so is the design of M3 MacBook Air. I am not partial to either design, however the re-introduction of MagSafe is welcomed. All machines based on Apple Silicon are powerful and fully capable machines, regardless of one's profession. To put it simply, there is no weak Apple Silicon based machine available. Apple has done a fantastic job with the introduction of Apple Silicon based Macs. One thing that I do look forward to in the future is the re-introduction of the glowing Apple logo in the MacBook lineup.
In my opinion, the M1 Powered Macs are good enough for the average user. So, if you're searching for a budget-friendly MacBook, I'd suggest you go for it.
Agreed!!
You should have also told the prospective buyers about all of the additional cost no matter which one you purchase.
1 : external 27 in. 1440 monitor
2: wireless mouse
3: external docking station
4: 2 TB external SSD drive
5: decent case if you travel with it
Apart from the storage, if you need the rest, you should buy a desktop rather than a laptop
Well if only sold in Walmart I will not be purchasing the Apple M1 MacBook Air at this location. My hope was that Apple was going to drop older SOC's in the the M1 MacBook Air design and keep it around as the entry model.
Yeah, they wanted the M2 for that, but really interesting to see Appel approach this from multiple angles! Why leave that market untapped? People go to walmart for a cheap computer, now they can buy a Mac!
I bought mines from BestBuy
M1 for Life!!
M2 Macbook Air 512GB for $1,049 is the real deal
YES
The base model M1 MacBook Air is a great value for high school and college students, and for many small business and general users who may browse the Web, use various apps and do Zoom calls. It is also a good laptop for basic video editing. The M1 Air outperforms Chromebooks and many Windows laptops in the same price range. The M1 Air may get fewer years of updates than the M3 Air, but in four years, consumers will probably be able to buy an equivalent Apple laptop at a budget price.
The audio on this video is horrible. It had me checking to see if there was something wrong with my phone's mics. 😮😢
The audio sounds kind of muffled.
I’m on an iPhone 14Pro & the audio was perfect..
@@andreasuhaka3141 i’m sorry you have hearing loss.
JOKES ON YOU i found a macbook air m1 for less than 500 euros
