I would like to request a longer video focused on your solo electric piano playing. Perhaps even 3-4 full songs. I’ve been returning to this video often to help me chill out. With such challenging conditions in the world, it’d be nice to hear a few full songs with your stellar voicing and melodic arrangement skills.
thanks for doing these! I'm gonna pick this board up in the next couple of months, thanks to this review. your playing is great, too - I hear Chick and Bill!!!
Hi! Thanks for your comment! If you mean the Nord Grand, I prefer the Nord Grand. But the two instruments are for different needs, and I like them both. Of course theres a huge difference in the action. The Nord Grand has fully weighted hammer action, and the Yamaha CP73 has not that...
Clearly you are a master!!! I totally appreciate what you’re doing here. Chick lives on!!!!!!!! This is gorgeous. I’m cosnider the 73 but am worried that the 88 action is that much better. What’s Your take?
Very nice demos! It's great to finally hear some quality playing for piano demonstrations :) I have just a question: since I've seen you playing both Yamaha and Nord pianos, what do you prefer for live concerts, considering just the aspect of the sound (especially for acoustic and electric pianos)? I'm having a hard time choosing my new stage piano..! I was oriented towards Nord Piano and Korg SV2, but also the Yamaha seems pretty nice.. Your opinion would be precious! Thank you!
Hi! Thank you so much! I normally have the nord as a first choice, but the more I play the Yamaha the more I like it. Though, all my instruments are chosen for different needs. The Nord compact for covergigs, the CP73 for pianogigs with better action but still portable and lightweight. And the Nord Grand for jazzpianogigs. Kind of. And also, I think it's a big difference in the action between CP88 and CP73. In the future (when gigs comes back:) I will definitely bring the Yamaha to live-gigs more, I havent tried it enough to tell how the different sounds work in the mix. If I had to choose between Nord Piano 4, Korg SV2 and Yamaha CP88 I'd go for the Yamaha. Definitely!
@@simonwestmanmusic Thank you very much!! Wow, now I'm in trouble ahah.. The only question is if the Yamaha works well in a live mix, but certainly I feel that the pianos sound more natural than Nord's.. In a way or another I will decide! :D Thank you again!
Great and tasteful playing as all your videos, thank you very much! I think especially the new 73 Studio Rd is a great addition. What do you hear - has it enough punch and „bark“, like a real Rhodes, if you play it harder?
Hi! Thanks for your comment! Yes, I think it has a good bark and punch in it. Some of the other Rhodes have a strange "after-sound/noise" (like the 78Rd) but the 73Rd Studio does not have it and I like that, cause the strange "after-sound" is very annoying...
@@simonwestmanmusic I totally agree about the 78 Rd after-sound. It feels like the Rhodes is stuttering. This phenomenon seems to happen on hard, short strikes (to make it bark) when the sustain pedal is depressed. When the key is depressed after a strike, the note is cut and immediately triggered again (instead of a key-off sample). I don't think I've experienced this when I don't use the sustain pedal. Yamaha definitely has to fix that.
Thank you very much for your impressive Demo, it is a real delight to listen to it !!! I have the CP73 but it doesn't sound the same as you do :-) One doubt, I see in the demo that you don't activate the reverb and some sounds like the 73 studio don't put any effect, do you have any treatment, external to the CP, with any Recording effect of the interface or of the software that you have used to record the video? Thank you very much and record more videos please.
Hi! Thanks for your comment 🙏🏽 I actually didn't like the reverb in the CP73, so I used one in my DAW (Logic Pro). As I remember it I think I also used some EQ in Logic... maybe I should'nt have done that, but for me it's also important that I can tweak the sounds afterwards for a good result in the end. It shows how the instrument can sound in a recording. Have a nice day!
hey simon, you played the cp 88? wondering about the difference in key action (heavyness, depth, key fulcrum ect.) :) great playing thanks for demoing the tones so well . cheers
Hi! Thanks for your comment, I have played the CP88 and I really liked it. It's different from the CP73 cause it's fully weighted hammer action and wooden keys. The CP73 is good if you want the portability and ok keybed.
thank you Simon for this review, really made up my mind , the wulitzer sounds seal the deal !
Came for the Rhodes, stayed for Mehldau.
This is my favourite demo I've ever watched on UA-cam... your playing is inspiring.
Thanks a million! 🙏🏽
Watching you play, i want to buy this instrument! Woooowwww fantastic vid!!!
Thanks a lot! 😊
That glonky sound is so magical
excellent video! Would LOOOOOVE one of these videos on the sub section and extra sounds :)
Supers sons et bravo au talentueux pianiste. Grande réussite de yamaha.

Hi! Thanks for your request! I'm glad you like my playing 😊 I'll think about that, making a video with full songs, I'll be back:)
@@simonwestmanmusic You have great taste & sensitivity in your playing, I’d love to hear that too.
@@simonwestmanmusic Your Blackbird, and Stevie Wonder Cherie Amour on Rhodes through phaser would be my requests 😇
@@sub-jec-tiv Thank you! 🙏🏽
@@sub-jec-tiv I'll write that down, the demo will come someday:)
Gorgeous playing!

BRO THE LICK AT 1:08 IS SO GOOD
Blackbird at 4:18 : Magnifique. This 73RD Studio work fine with that song.
Thanks a lot!
Yeah Blackbird was truly stunning. Can you post a full version, same piano, on Bandcamp ...so i can send you money for it? 😌
Great demo and playing!
Nicely done Simon. It would be cool if you could do a quick one of the CP70/80 electric grands. I believe there are only two, but maybe im wrong?
Hi! Thanks! I'll try to do that this week. Stay tuned:)
Great sound, great performance!
Thanks so much!
Very beautiful done. Thanks for the videos.
How do you compare the Nord stage to the Yamaha CP???
Hi! Thanks for your comment! If you mean the Nord Grand, I prefer the Nord Grand. But the two instruments are for different needs, and I like them both. Of course theres a huge difference in the action. The Nord Grand has fully weighted hammer action, and the Yamaha CP73 has not that...

Hi! Thanks for your comment 🙏🏽 The 88 has a much better action, the 73 is ok action and but not fully weighted. Very portable though.
Great playing!
Thanks 🙏
It would be more appreciated if you make a Demo on Organ sounds. This is very useful for gigging Bands.Thanks...
Check out the YC instead, it has organ features 👍
Your playing is so great, you could even impress people with a 200€ keyboard. The real soul of music comes from the artist, not from the instrument.
Thanks a million 🙏😊

The rhytm sections also come from CP?
It's from iReal pro, recorded everything into Logic X.
