Another fantastic review and this time of my fav Dior. From the first moment I tested Dior's Hypnotic Poison @ Macy's during its launch, I was completely spellbound by the intoxicating aroma of creamy almond and rich exotic woods bloomed on my skin. I fell in love and purchased it on the spot. It's a true Dior masterpiece. For me there will never come a day I will not own a bottle in my perfume collection.
I still have a 30 ml bottle of HP from the 90s. And yes, the juice was different, and yes, it's rubbery. In fact, it attracts dust and dirt. The new bottle is a win for me
i have the purply red bottle with silver neck, and over the 2 years that Ive had it, its like..matured lol. It's strong, thick and suffocatingly dense like the old school formula. I love it and I get at least 8 hours of it surrounding me like a thick blanket. I had the first ever formula but there was a heavy tuberose note in there that seemed to go a little..sweaty on my skin and I didn't care much for it. I tried a sample of the second release with the shiny bottle, gold neck and black cap but wasn't at all a fan of that one. This one is smooth,I find it does have that doughey thick texture that HP is known for.
After watching your review several times I gave "HP" another chance. I only know the first formula. Back then it was not a love of mine. Had a different taste in parfumes at this time. So I abandoned this part of the shelves in the shops. Actually the recent formula opend the gates for me again. Maybe I needed to grow older to really appreciate its beauty. Today arrived a bottle of the HP Elixier my home and I am so in love. Again, thank you Dacob! I really appreciate your thoughtfull and in depth reviews! Sylke
There is something so comforting about this wonderful fragrance. This might seem "out there" but to me it has a warm milky-creamy vibe. I'm wondering if on some subconscious level it reminds us of being fed mother's milk or from a bottle while being held in our mother's arms.
This is the best review for this fragrance I have watched. You did a great job. I have loved Hypnotic Poison since it came out in late 1998, and it is still my favorite. It is one of a kind.
Finally got my bottle in the mail today. I’m wearing it now. At first spray I wasn’t sure how I felt about it because it didn’t smell as feminine on me as I wanted. I put it down and walked away and started getting ready for bed. I looked back at it, picked it up and gave it a couple more sprays. I’m not sure what it is but even though it’s not something I would typically wear, I don’t see myself putting it down for a long time. Great scent. I’ve never had an experience like that with a perfume before
hi dacob! well i haven't got the opportunity to try the recent hypnotic poison but i remember that it smells like a rootbeer sometimes almost like cacao but extremely potent otherwise. i happen to have a vintage flower by kenzo edp and everytime i use it, it reminds me of an abstract version of hypnotic poison. maybe my nose is demented but that's what im getting. thanks
Hey Dacob! As the weather gets colder it’s time for this perfume again. I just bought a bottle and it would have just been perfect if Dior sticked to the velvety bottle. This ice cold glass bottle and this warm scent just don’t sit well together. But it smells lovely nonetheless! Love your reviews!
I have a 100ml bottle of the limited edition Diable Rouge edp😁; It’s been in my collection for years, only having been used for special occasions, definitely considered a signature scent of mine😊👌🏻 And it has two added base notes in it; amber and woody notes, which is what made it slightly different from the reformulation of the original edt, and I think might be longer lasting, 14 hours on me, at least😁

I love it in summer too :) The almond adds the bitter touch to the sweet vanilla and its a delight and because of the bitter almond, this scent is ok for warmer weather too. xoxo
Which one should i take? I love gourmand perfumes, vanilla, coconut, almonds, I like them as sweet as possible and I heard HP EDT is sweeter than the EDP, but wouldn't the EDT last less and feel a lot less powerful?

bought it last week. smoky bottom glass ...i think it was reformulated.., i sprayed it on my hands, it is smoky vanilla almond , i love this one than the previous.
I used to have the 2008 elixir version with the black pump. It was heaven. Q liquoricey. Almondy. Unfortnately- The bottles werent air tight and overtime they evaporated!! I mistakenly put the 30ml im my bag. It leaked. 12 years later when i open the wardrobe where that bag is kept, i still get whafts.....
I’ve just bought this! It’s identical to pdm Pegasus! It’s for women but it’s amazing! More unisex, love it 👍 It lasts forever! The edt is better than the edp!
I used to wear Dior's Higher almost exclusively and I hate Dior for reformulating it making it more diluted and the citrus notes are almost artificial-like in a bad way. Gah, stop reformulating great fragrances Dior! But love your honest and informative reviews, Dacob!
+Wai Law yes, Dior really has issues with their reformulations... its difficult for all us perfume lovers out there. But this version of Hypnotic Poison actually gives me some hope! As does the 2014 reformulation of Addict! xoxo
i'm not sure if the formulation is a big change. but I remembered when I first checked this out on dior's site on 2002, it mentioned jacaranda wood as one of the notes. it's no longer listed now. yes I got it when the bottle was coated with the matte rubber/plastic texture. it was such a strange texture and I love it!
Thanks, I have like three bottles and only worn it one day and that particular day was not good, reason being I used a Shea Butter cream and it turned the fragrance into a unpleasant scent. However, tried it again a few weeks ago and literary was hypnotized and that's when I purchased the other two bottles. But, anyway I love you reviews and have subscribed to your channel.
Can't wait to try that one out in winter. Looking forward to that Play-doh scent everyone keeps talking about. The bottle reminds me a bit of Snowy white's apple. Would indeed be awesome with black (rubber) on it. Think my mom was a tendre poison adept in the 90's. But I was too young to remember.
i bought one recently for around $141 as a gift for my fiancee, too bad perfumes here cost really high :( but good thing i got the legit one! tried 6 malls and got it on the 6th one!:) and it smells so good!

I just smelled this the other day for the first time, on my skin for some reason it is very similar to Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, which I love, at the fraction of the price🥳 maybe it’s the coconut note, for some reason coconut projects massively on me, like Gardenia EDP is a coconut bomb. Anyway I need to pick up a bottle of this. On another note, interestingly I read somewhere one reason companies love flankers is that copywriting a new name is massively expensive so they save lots of money by using the same name over and over again. Who knows if it’s true, but interesting nonetheless 🖤♥️
Flankers save companies millions and millions! It is not about registering the name, because they have to also copyright the new flanker name just like they have to register the first releases's name. They save a lot of money by capitalizing on the fact that their clients already know the first releases so the brands don't need to spend millions in advertisement. They also hope to get clients that already love the original release to also buy the flanker. This way the companies hope to make you purchase the new flankers before you take your time to empty the original version bottle you already purchased. The brands also don't need to invest the time to develop a new formula. They already have the original formula which they only tweak so they save a lot of money there as well. All in all flankers are a huge way to maximize profits for the brands but in my eye (an eye of a consumer), their flankers are just lazy. ;) xoxo
i bought them and they smell cherry almond all the time. extremly potent and longlasting smell. In one word- Cherry Bakewell Tart.Almond Marzepan icing and cherry on the top. One of the most longlasting smells i have ever smelled. Love all dior and chanel perfumes.
From your description I would almost say you purchased the eau de parfum version which is cherry syrup all the way... I don't get the cherry in the eau de toilette version on my skin but the syrupy cherryis all over me in the eau de parfum ;) Either way, I love this fragrance! xoxo

yes i have seen your review on edp-and i agree with you. i have sprayed it on my wrist at 17.00 and i could still smell it next morning after i woke up. My all time fav is Dior Poison. it is intoxicating.

+Alcoholic Nun Poison girl is effervescent! That is true! But it is different... It kind of reminds me more of the original poison rather than HP... but the vanilla is definitely in there as well.

I have to say that I did get a sample of Hypnotic Poison no long ago, and when I tried it for the first time I just didn't like it, but for some reason I kept trying that sample on me every now and then, until all of a sudden it started growing on me, and now I just love it, and I get everything you say about it. I love it! There's no perfume out there like it, and I'm planning on getting it by this fall or winter. Thank you for this review Dacob, you always the kind of perfume reviews that I wish everybody would do ... I'm tired of the whole,it smells warm, like almond and jasmine with musk, and very vanilla. I think you would make a great friend to talk about, and shop for perfume . Love your reviews, since I'm a perfume lover. Thank you for this review. I`m curious: what perfumes scream sex or danger to you? I`ve been trying to find that type of perfume and I've been fooled so many times by those commercials that have nothing to do with the feeling that you get after smelling the perfume and ended up with the wrong perfumes. +WickedLoonuh I understand what you mean! Its difficult! All of us have a different perception of what danger or sex or heat or danger smell like... but I would say M7 (original formulation) smells very sexual to me, as well as Cartier's exclusive XIII hour! That one is very sexual! xoxo
The bottle reminds us of an apple but the four claw-like details are taken from poison bottles from ancient ties. Bottles containing poison in pharmacies always had the elevated marks in the glass so that the blind could also know immediately by touching the bottle that there is poison in it.
I'm sooo bad as I haven't tested this yet however I have a bottle of the HP eau sensuelle version and it is unbelievable, it's sooo amazing , it's like flowers with icing sugar all over them , it even tops my Fendi theorema , so I must get this EDT too ! have u smelled HPES ? if so what did u think ? ?
U could film a review with 3 hours and we still will watch and rewatch Dacob. It's a pleasure to watch your reviews over and over. While you are so passionate and informative I was watching this teens with much more followers than you dacob (unfortunately) they were a waste of time. First review I watched the girl was describing a fragrance with fig she didn't know what it was and she never ate it, another one carnation didn't know what a carnation was, and the last that I watched was one with chanel n5 and she said they put powder in the perfume so it smells powdery. Again their reviews were a waste of time for many people they weren't only amazing comments, I guess a pretty girl face sells, who knew? For me you are much more precious than those girls, behind their face nothing, behind your beautiful face a wonderful informative person.

On my way to buy this amazing perfume and came across your reviews. You're so great, accurate and passionate in your comments. A lot of people say that this EDT smells like play-doh and I felt strange cause I didn't sense anything like that. So what do you think about that? Thanks
+Zlatushable Thank you :) I don't get any play-doh vibe from this formulation. I do however get a touch of smokey hey in the drydown. The smokey hey was missing in the original formulation on my skin... and yes, unfortunately this version is weaker than the orginal formulation from the nineties but I am still in love with it snce on my skin this new formulaion develops very well. But just to be safe, since perfumes develop different on different skin types I would strongly recommend to try it on first for at least an hour and see if you like it :) That way you will be sure you are not getting the play-doh vibe out of it. xoxo
Would you say that this current 2016 formulation is better than the 2012 formulation? I have a bottle of 2012 HP and unfortunately I find that it doesn't last too long & has lost a lot of its potency and character.
+Alcoholic Nun I would say it is stronger than the 2012... also tried Diro Addict 2014 version because I read so many reviews stating it is the closest one could get to the first release and I love it! So delicious! Perhaps Dior is trying to make it up to us.. No clue... in any case I love the leathery note in the 2014 HP...

I came extremely late to the party. But I just discovered & purchase HP few days ago, thanks to a review by Delicious Delights. I love this. I love it so much, I purchased a second bottle in matter of days. I cannot believe however, how badly this EDT performs. Very very poorly. 2 sprays does NOTHING! There isn't a single fragrance I own, from the cheap curious buy to the niche expensive ones, that require more than 2 sprays. You say 4 sprays? 4, if I'm lucky, will get me a very faint whiff by the 3rd hour. As a consumer, I feel insulted at Dior's business model for this fragrance. It is as if, they know they have a winning formula, and purposely thin it down to achieve volume in sales. It looks like, I will go through my 100ml in no time, since I'm hoping 6 sprays will get me somewhere. I have never come across such an EDT. Upon application (2 sprays), and you smell nothing! What is this sorcery?!

I took a UK8 (went half a UKsize down on the cargo sandals). the clogs I went half a size up. The sandals are all in all more comfortable. The clogs keep flying off the foot in the beginning...
I have to use like 10 sprays of this lol I purchased the 5oz for that particular reason. I have this and the original and its crazy how different the strength is.

I like the leathery hey touch in this one which I miss in the oiginal version. But no doubt the original is everlasting and this one is a shadow of the original's strength...
You mean the vintage hypnotic poison edt? I am afraid there is no other way but through second hand websites... but it can be tricky... there are fakes out there. But if you want the version I show in this video then you can get it directly from the Dior website as well as off second hand websites. Its quite present on the second hand market. xoxo
Should I buy it??? I really want to but I am afraid I’ll regret it...it is quite pricey. Could someone help me understand which scent this resembles so I can have an idea more or less, since we are all pretty much stuck at home :/ BTW, I too am not a fan of vanilla :/ which is why I NEVER WEAR Black Opium...but I’m open to wearing this. Hi Sarah. This is definitely NOT a blind buy type of perfume! Its very strong and intense and if you do not like it`s smell, it can be nauseating after some time.

i just bought one "eau de toilette" but it lasts for 1 hour!!! it's from the duty free i cheked everything it's the original one but how can it last for just 1h!!!!!!! i know this perfume it used to last like forever . is it the ne version or there is something wrong with the one i bought :/
So sorry to hear that. The one I have lasts for a few hours. It is in no way as close to the lasting power of the original 90's formulation but it is also not as bad as only one hour... No clue if they reformulated it yet again...
Soon Dior will remove the whole writing from the bottle, like they did with Dolce Vita. That one is just a joke at the moment and I really love the vintage one, such a shame. Dior just butchered every single perfume they have to the point that they became a joke , it’s like trying so hard to sabotage each fragrance, so painfully sad. The worst is Miss Dior , that one is gone forever. I love HP and I really hope they have the decency to acknowledge the fact that everyone is happy with her the way it is and it really doesn’t need any more unnecessary reformulation. I’ve different bottles from different years and I can’t keep track with which one is more decent apart from the vintage rubbery bottle.

I wear hypnotic poison everyday during the winter. Men love it . I go for more fresh, soapy and clean smell for summer.

There is something so comforting about this wonderful fragrance. This might seem "out there" but to me it has a warm milky-creamy vibe. I'm wondering if on some subconscious level it reminds us of being fed mother's milk or from a bottle while being held in our mother's arms.
This is the best review for this fragrance I have watched. You did a great job. I have loved Hypnotic Poison since it came out in late 1998, and it is still my favorite. It is one of a kind.

Finally got my bottle in the mail today. I’m wearing it now. At first spray I wasn’t sure how I felt about it because it didn’t smell as feminine on me as I wanted. I put it down and walked away and started getting ready for bed. I looked back at it, picked it up and gave it a couple more sprays. I’m not sure what it is but even though it’s not something I would typically wear, I don’t see myself putting it down for a long time. Great scent. I’ve never had an experience like that with a perfume before

hi dacob! well i haven't got the opportunity to try the recent hypnotic poison but i remember that it smells like a rootbeer sometimes almost like cacao but extremely potent otherwise. i happen to have a vintage flower by kenzo edp and everytime i use it, it reminds me of an abstract version of hypnotic poison. maybe my nose is demented but that's what im getting. thanks

As the weather gets colder it’s time for this perfume again. I just bought a bottle and it would have just been perfect if Dior sticked to the velvety bottle. This ice cold glass bottle and this warm scent just don’t sit well together. But it smells lovely nonetheless! Love your reviews!

I have a 100ml bottle of the limited edition Diable Rouge edp😁; It’s been in my collection for years, only having been used for special occasions, definitely considered a signature scent of mine😊👌🏻 And it has two added base notes in it; amber and woody notes, which is what made it slightly different from the reformulation of the original edt, and I think might be longer lasting, 14 hours on me, at least😁

I love it in summer too :) The almond adds the bitter touch to the sweet vanilla and its a delight and because of the bitter almond, this scent is ok for warmer weather too. xoxo
Which one should i take? I love gourmand perfumes, vanilla, coconut, almonds, I like them as sweet as possible and I heard HP EDT is sweeter than the EDP, but wouldn't the EDT last less and feel a lot less powerful?

I used to have the 2008 elixir version with the black pump. It was heaven. Q liquoricey. Almondy. Unfortnately- The bottles werent air tight and overtime they evaporated!! I mistakenly put the 30ml im my bag. It leaked. 12 years later when i open the wardrobe where that bag is kept, i still get whafts.....

I used to wear Dior's Higher almost exclusively and I hate Dior for reformulating it making it more diluted and the citrus notes are almost artificial-like in a bad way. Gah, stop reformulating great fragrances Dior! But love your honest and informative reviews, Dacob!

i'm not sure if the formulation is a big change. but I remembered when I first checked this out on dior's site on 2002, it mentioned jacaranda wood as one of the notes. it's no longer listed now. yes I got it when the bottle was coated with the matte rubber/plastic texture. it was such a strange texture and I love it!
The rubberized bottles were a great new way to approach perfumery by adding to the bottle a warmth that the perfume promised to deliver.
This made me get my bottle from the wardrobe 😁 So nice review! I like your energy!

I have like three bottles and only worn it one day and that particular day was not good, reason being I used a Shea Butter cream and it turned the fragrance into a unpleasant scent. However, tried it again a few weeks ago and literary was hypnotized and that's when I purchased the other two bottles. But, anyway I love you reviews and have subscribed to your channel.

i bought one recently for around $141 as a gift for my fiancee, too bad perfumes here cost really high :( but good thing i got the legit one! tried 6 malls and got it on the 6th one!:) and it smells so good!

I just smelled this the other day for the first time, on my skin for some reason it is very similar to Tom Ford Soleil Blanc, which I love, at the fraction of the price🥳 maybe it’s the coconut note, for some reason coconut projects massively on me, like Gardenia EDP is a coconut bomb. Anyway I need to pick up a bottle of this. On another note, interestingly I read somewhere one reason companies love flankers is that copywriting a new name is massively expensive so they save lots of money by using the same name over and over again. Who knows if it’s true, but interesting nonetheless 🖤♥️
Flankers save companies millions and millions! It is not about registering the name, because they have to also copyright the new flanker name just like they have to register the first releases's name. They save a lot of money by capitalizing on the fact that their clients already know the first releases so the brands don't need to spend millions in advertisement. They also hope to get clients that already love the original release to also buy the flanker. This way the companies hope to make you purchase the new flankers before you take your time to empty the original version bottle you already purchased. The brands also don't need to invest the time to develop a new formula. They already have the original formula which they only tweak so they save a lot of money there as well. All in all flankers are a huge way to maximize profits for the brands but in my eye (an eye of a consumer), their flankers are just lazy. ;) xoxo
i bought them and they smell cherry almond all the time. extremly potent and longlasting smell. In one word- Cherry Bakewell Tart.Almond Marzepan icing and cherry on the top. One of the most longlasting smells i have ever smelled. Love all dior and chanel perfumes.
From your description I would almost say you purchased the eau de parfum version which is cherry syrup all the way... I don't get the cherry in the eau de toilette version on my skin but the syrupy cherryis all over me in the eau de parfum ;) Either way, I love this fragrance! xoxo

yes i have seen your review on edp-and i agree with you. i have sprayed it on my wrist at 17.00 and i could still smell it next morning after i woke up. My all time fav is Dior Poison. it is intoxicating.

I have to say that I did get a sample of Hypnotic Poison no long ago, and when I tried it for the first time I just didn't like it, but for some reason I kept trying that sample on me every now and then, until all of a sudden it started growing on me, and now I just love it, and I get everything you say about it. I love it! There's no perfume out there like it, and I'm planning on getting it by this fall or winter. Thank you for this review Dacob, you always the kind of perfume reviews that I wish everybody would do ... I'm tired of the whole,it smells warm, like almond and jasmine with musk, and very vanilla. I`m curious: what perfumes scream sex or danger to you? I`ve been trying to find that type of perfume and I've been fooled so many times by those commercials that have nothing to do with the feeling that you get after smelling the perfume and ended up with the wrong perfumes. I think it’s supposed to look like Cinderella’s poison apple, that’s what I get when I see my bottle
The bottle reminds us of an apple but the four claw-like details are taken from poison bottles from ancient ties. Bottles containing poison in pharmacies always had the elevated marks in the glass so that the blind could also know immediately by touching the bottle that there is poison in it.
That would be Snow White, not Cinderella.

U could film a review with 3 hours and we still will watch and rewatch Dacob. It's a pleasure to watch your reviews over and over. While you are so passionate and informative I was watching this teens with much more followers than you dacob (unfortunately) they were a waste of time. First review I watched the girl was describing a fragrance with fig she didn't know what it was and she never ate it, another one carnation didn't know what a carnation was, and the last that I watched was one with chanel n5 and she said they put powder in the perfume so it smells powdery. Again their reviews were a waste of time for many people they weren't only amazing comments, I guess a pretty girl face sells, who knew? For me you are much more precious than those girls, behind their face nothing, behind your beautiful face a wonderful informative person.

The smokey hey was missing in the original formulation on my skin... and yes, unfortunately this version is weaker than the orginal formulation from the nineties but I am still in love with it snce on my skin this new formulaion develops very well. Would you say that this current 2016 formulation is better than the 2012 formulation? I have a bottle of 2012 HP and unfortunately I find that it doesn't last too long & has lost a lot of its potency and character.
+Alcoholic Nun I would say it is stronger than the 2012... also tried Diro Addict 2014 version because I read so many reviews stating it is the closest one could get to the first release and I love it! So delicious! Perhaps Dior is trying to make it up to us.. No clue... in any case I love the leathery note in the 2014 HP...

I came extremely late to the party. But I just discovered & purchase HP few days ago, thanks to a review by Delicious Delights. I love this. I love it so much, I purchased a second bottle in matter of days. I cannot believe however, how badly this EDT performs. Very very poorly. 2 sprays does NOTHING! There isn't a single fragrance I own, from the cheap curious buy to the niche expensive ones, that require more than 2 sprays. You say 4 sprays? 4, if I'm lucky, will get me a very faint whiff by the 3rd hour. As a consumer, I feel insulted at Dior's business model for this fragrance. It is as if, they know they have a winning formula, and purposely thin it down to achieve volume in sales. It looks like, I will go through my 100ml in no time, since I'm hoping 6 sprays will get me somewhere. I have never come across such an EDT. Upon application (2 sprays), and you smell nothing! What is this sorcery?!
The EDT version has been reformulated again in 2020 and the performance is a joke😢 Maybe you purchased the newest version hence the poor longevity

I took a UK8 (went half a UKsize down on the cargo sandals). the clogs I went half a size up. The sandals are all in all more comfortable. The clogs keep flying off the foot in the beginning...
I have to use like 10 sprays of this lol I purchased the 5oz for that particular reason. I have this and the original and its crazy how different the strength is.

I like the leathery hey touch in this one which I miss in the oiginal version. But no doubt the original is everlasting and this one is a shadow of the original's strength...

You mean the vintage hypnotic poison edt? I am afraid there is no other way but through second hand websites... but it can be tricky... there are fakes out there. Hi Sarah. This is definitely NOT a blind buy type of perfume! Its very strong and intense and if you do not like it`s smell, it can be nauseating after some time.

I dont either however there tends to be scents men lean toward and women lean toward then there are some that are more universal. I think everyone should wear what they like

i just bought one "eau de toilette" but it lasts for 1 hour!!! it's from the duty free i cheked everything it's the original one but how can it last for just 1h!!!!!!! i know this perfume it used to last like forever . is it the ne version or there is something wrong with the one i bought :/
So sorry to hear that. The one I have lasts for a few hours. It is in no way as close to the lasting power of the original 90's formulation but it is also not as bad as only one hour... No clue if they reformulated it yet again...

Soon Dior will remove the whole writing from the bottle, like they did with Dolce Vita. That one is just a joke at the moment and I really love the vintage one, such a shame. Dior just butchered every single perfume they have to the point that they became a joke , it’s like trying so hard to sabotage each fragrance, so painfully sad. The worst is Miss Dior , that one is gone forever.
I love HP and I really hope they have the decency to acknowledge the fact that everyone is happy with her the way it is and it really doesn’t need any more unnecessary reformulation. I’ve different bottles from different years and I can’t keep track with which one is more decent apart from the vintage rubbery bottle.
