I'm gonna pop some popcorn and come back to this comment section.
Over 1k views so far and 1 thumbs down, sir you are a master at tackling controversial topics.
Guns are a necessary tool on homesteads and farms, our country does have an odd and complex relationship with them
So true...
Its not that odd, the politicians use it as a point to stir their base supporters.
If our leadership was stronger and moved on to the real problems like mental healthcare and proper education most the issues would resolve themselves.
Don't forget do train your dog gun proof, so it don't scare of, when shooting
And also be aware that many hunting dogs lose their hearing over time when they don't have ear protection!
@@brockjohnson100 it's not a hunting dog it will only be around shooting as a last resort
@@jesseserfling6807 yes, I know that. The reason I commented was to make sure Morgan is aware of the consequences of shooting certain firearms in close proximity to his dog, especially since he said his relationship with guns is fairly new. It's something that many people can overlook.
brockjohnson100 I absolutely agree with you, you never know what situation you might find yourself in and it’s important that your dog is acclimated/trained for everything that farm life entails.
We've had a lot of dogs, different breeds, and NONE of them has wanted to be around when guns (or fireworks) were around. Even the sight of them was enough for them to head for the barn. None were hunting dogs though so that likely makes a difference. How would you "train" them? Our LGD might not be gun spooked, not sure. She is not supposed to be in the woods during the season (which unfortunately she hasn't completely agreed with. We're working on it diligently....She considers herself staff, not a pet)
The problem isn't with the tool, it's with the one who uses it. I think we'd all trust you with a firearm enough to practice proper gun safety procedures.
its also the easy access to guns that arent tools, destructions of registrations, lack of laws on safety training, ability to buy guns at yard sales, cultural normalization of a "right" that was given back when people were using muskets. its not just a problem of a bad guy with a guy it much bigger.
Blaming guns for gun violence is like blaming my hammer for hitting my thumb.
@@JamesCouch777 what about cows? what about falling objects? what about cigarettes? you see how dumb that sounds? also i never said guns should be banned dont know where you got that idea. maybe out of thin air.
I'm raising ducks for eggs here in SE Alaska. I had to shoot a fox this week. I heard the ducks scream at 2AM, in pouring rain I ran out with a flashlight and got into a very personal fight with this fox. He bluff charged me several times within five feet of me. He showed no fear of me, even scent marking less than ten feet from me when I'm yelling and throwing sticks at him. I shot him and skinned him out.
In Alaska? Surprised you gave the fox time to do all that. From what I hear, the mammals of Alaska are reason enough to carry a side arm while taking out the trash.
@@TAPriceCTR I do carry a side arm when outside the house. Taking out the trash is a feeding call to bears. Anything that smells like food is legally considered an Attractant. If you shoot something after providing an Attractant, then you are in big trouble. Garbage is handled very carefully here.
@@MrsTigercat I do understand your concern, This fox had killed four ducks over the past few days. I was very impressed with his size and health. When it came to a one-on-one fight, I did a very thorough visual health assessment assuming I'd get chewed up a bit. He was in perfect condition.
I appreciate your moderate view on guns and gun safety as well as the way you've explained your opinion and experience with them. You didn't make a big deal out of it, just treated it like an issue that should be carefully considered, like you did with the decision of getting a dog. I think that's the kind of respect and attitude that should be given to such a topic.
Being on the cusp of the wilderness makes guns necessary. Proud of you for keeping an open mind and also for protecting your hard earned meat and eggs!
Oh and also can't wait for the puppy!!
Well said Maren. Now, Morgan, get your a$$ to the range and get some practice with that or those guns. And kill that damn skunk and all its brothers and sisters.
Hey Duck Boy (best reference) - good video. As a side, I had skunk family move in under my chicken coop. I used flood lights to light up the coop from all sides for one week (one flood light facing each side of the coop). Chickens did not like it a lot, but the skunks moved out and did not return. I was shocked at how easy it was. Skunks hate light.
Nope, need more controversy. Ducks with guns!
I can just imagine them with tiny little cork rifles. Adorable defense vs predators.
@@jamespettway1771 ,
Yup , Donald was occupied with trying to get some from Daisy . lol
QUACK!
(Small cork guns pop)
QUAAAAAAAAAAAACCKKK
(windows explode, triggers pulled, not a single cork hits the fox)
I think your right about the gun issues we have. I come from a family of gun owners. The difference between someone that appreciates what a gun is used for and someone that doesn't knows just what you stated. If people leave your channel did not need to be here in the first place.
Glad you got your fence up. Can't wait to meet the puppy. Stay warm.
Switzerland has a very low amound of crimes involving guns, but a lot of houshold have one. That's because you get a gun after serving in the military to be ready if a war is rapidly coming up. So most of the guns are handled by people who know how to handle guns very well, it seems.
@@duke7803 its the culture
America well better said hollywood makes murder look fun
I also live in a country full of guns and i cant find one example of legal gun owners commiting crime with guns
Im sure there were cases but they are rare to non existant
For example 10minute drive from oslo to some suburbs and you will find guns no problem
Everyone has them
Living in a rural area of the uk, many of the farmers have firearms, and I think on a farm they're necessary as they are a tool. A healthy respect for guns is essential in their safe use, I'm glad that you appear to have that :)
I really don't understand why am I always so happy when I watch your videos. Maybe it is music (but I'm not a fan of such music tho), maybe it is ducks (but I love bears and hamsters more), maybe it is your optimistic attitude (but I'm more down to earth pessimistic dude myself) - I really don't know. I guess this is a mix of everything and me loving animals as a whole. Thank you, for your videos. As a random guy from Russia that probably won't visit Peacham even once, the best I can do is to wish that your farm thing works out well for you. Good luck! :)
When I first moved up here to New England from the Midwest I was told I picked a good state to feel more at home..... New Hampshire is all about the guns and "Live Free or Die". My property is mostly dense woods and if I wonder too far from the house I will carry a pistol for "just in case". Better to have and not need than need and not have.
Maine as well and when I am out away from the house, I too pack just in case. It only takes once to find yourself in a world of hurt.
@@bristolvahomesteaders4658 you are spot on about MA, I work down there and it's very noticeable. I've found once you get outside of the commuting area for Boston it changes though. I hear ya on the taxes.... I currently pay $25 per $1,000 in assessed property value. :-/
@@bristolvahomesteaders4658 ,
When the Democrats move in , common sense moves out . Not long ago N.H. was one of the best states in the nation. Soon it will be just like Vermont and MA. and N.Y.
@@HunterParasite ,
Democrats feel superior when they call others names. However , what I said is the truth isn't it ? That whole section of the nation is gone now from N.J. to Maine. Will it ever return to normal ? Not in my lifetime.
You did an excellent job of discussing the Gun on the farm & in everyday life. I feel I was very lucky that I was raised on the farm & at a time when guns were just considered a tool. Back in the 1940's guns were a non issue. The people that commited crimes back then, were persecuted for the crime not the weapon they used. The freedom we had back then! We will never see again. Art in CA.
i love how your videos make me feel like i'm forever watching milo & otis but with ducks, chickens & a dog
I’m somehow still up, I love your videos and you’re such a wholesome person!
When raised on a farm you do learn that sometimes high velocity lead poisoning is required to stop predators. If you choose not to, your farm becomes a predator buffet. Trapping small packs of feral dogs, coy dogs and coyotes is very near impossible. Wolf dogs do not fear man and when you have a 150lb hybrid that has no fear and sees you as prey that becomes a huge risk.
Absolutely loved the way you approached this topic, it was so well thought out as your experience. Keep making your videos the way you want to, man. I enjoy watching them.
Love the different angles inside and around the coops. Keep up the hard work and stay warm with winter arriving so soon and hard. :) thanks again as always for sharing with us!
Hey Morgan! I was watching my favorite bee channel yesterday, Fredrick Dunn, and he was talking about trapping skunks with the best bait. Skunks love to eat honey bees so Mr. Dunn has to move them. Marshmallows of all things is the best to trap them, it was a live chat, Sunday the 24th. and others watching were backing him up. The skunk refused to leave the trap, go figure! I like your views and the way you tell a story, Please keep telling them.
A gun is a necessary tool on a farm I would suggest you get a .410. I suggest a 870 Remington Wingmaster.
I agree about the .410. Very versatile weapon and can be used for hunting as well.
@@alfredangelici8294 you can do the same thing with a .410. Mine is loaded with Defender shot at all times. No kick to speak of either, making it perfect for a beginner or a woman with a torn rotator cuff.
Ahhh, nothing like coming home after a long shift and watching a totally not controversial video about farming.
You are great man, love your videos.
The only gun I ever registered was my machine gun, because the government made me. The other 50 are not. It’s not a farm without something full auto.
I'm so glad to see that you learned that guns are necessary especially in rural areas. Good to see you are truly integrated into farm rural life.
I think you have the perfect attitude about guns...it is realistic, practical, and does not fetishize them. They are tools designed and made for killing at a distance. You aren’t fantasizing about killing some imagined enemies, or people you don’t like. You fairly acknowledge the reality of their inherent danger, yet also recognize their value.
Thanks! Wish more people had your attitude!
Great job!!! Keeping it honest and interesting. Thanks; you've made me a fan!
Love the "inside" and "underneath" shots! Definitely guns are an equalizer when dealing with predators and putting food on the table. They are no more an "evil" than a knife or a club or a car in the hands of people. It's the people themselves who wield the object-their heart, their frame of mind, their intent.
Demonetized AF.
All incidents with guns (in Germany) happened because of governmental institutions not doing their job properly.
Our neighbors have a lot of guns as well (way more than what we have) but I haven't heard of a gun shooting in Austria.
Btw: gunclubs (Schützenvereine) are an important part of the culture in all germanspeaking regions.
Cheers (from Germany)
Nik
You have to go through a
relatively complex process
to legally own a firearm as
well. Apparently there are
five specific justifications to
own a firearm in Germany,
which you must specify on
your application, with proof
among other things. Also,
apparently you must have an
absolutely clean criminal
record, and quite a few other
things in Germany. The
application takes several
weeks, correct me if I am
mistaken. בס״ד
@@KelikakuCoutin Man, you know more than me. I used to be in the Schützenverein when I was 14years old(34 now), I also know I could have shot Kleinkaliber (Pistol) at this age.
But you don't need a license if only shooting in the Schützenverein but that might have changed.
@@KelikakuCoutin I didn't actually know about this before. Very interesting to hear.
I hear Switzerland also has a lot of guns. Sometimes I wonder if it is how we sell guns, or if it is that we have different culture around guns/confrontation here that leads US to having such high rates of gun violence. I really have no idea...
But I do know even here in urban California it is relatively easy to find people who sell unregistered guns. I have found people like this by accident, people whom regulation will not touch until police find them. I dissociate pretty fast from people when I find out there is a gun dealer in their midst; I cannot understand the demand for unregistered firearms
I met a young student working as a volunteer firefighter at a trade show in Switzerland a few months ago. She also happened to be a junior officer in the Swiss army. She had a pistol and assault rifle in her apartment. She was absolutely horrified when I asked if she also had ammunition in her apartment.. She could not understand why anyone would have ammunition at home. In case of muster she would collect ammunition at her local military base. In fact she said that she would be terrified if people were to have ammunition at home.
Interesting perspective I thought.
Morgan, you made my Monday. Perceptions change with experiences. I agree with you and many others. They, guns/rifles/skill saws are a tool.
A suggestion: look up “frost sowing”. You can throw down seed in the winter and it will sprout when temps are good.
You should frost sow flax and a variety of clover seed this winter in the disturbed soil area around the pond. Look for bulk seed. Cheap!
Another suggestion: get a solar powered fountain to keep your pond aerated...as it is reliant upon precipitation, it will get stagnant.
Last suggestion: get bacteria to balance your pond...they sell it in jugs now. You will need one that helps digest the muck from the duck droppings.
All together, you can get all these items for close to $100.
Hey duck boy! Talk about what you want. It's your youtube channel! I personally think it's refreshing to see someone start to understand that guns are more than just a big bad kill people in school tool and that it really comes down to how they are used. Really looking forward to seeing the puppy!
Morgan; Great video, common sense, honesty and bravery.
Thanks for taking the risk of addressing this topic. You are a man of two worlds. Maybe a unique position to build bridges?
This is one of the reasons I like your Chanel, ducks with a good message. Or at least different sides with out going crazy about it thanks.
Morgan, i immediately shared this one on FB... and bam it was shared by a friend. It is so darn reasonable, logical, and sees the gun for what it is elementally. "A tool to be used judiciously with grave responsibility." yeah that's how i put it.
the main thing about your opinions is that you arent obnoxious about them, you articulate them in a manner that can make people understand your starting point and your current ideas, its a nice change of pace for nowadays

This really changed my perspective and I’m glad you shared your experience. I’m sure it wasn’t easy
So I subscribed to you about a week ago because I thought I’d enjoy your content, but I’ve gotta say, man...
I’m still really enjoying your content. Thanks.
I love your channel!
Very balanced and reflected view on the gun topic especially considering you are American lol
I'm from South Germany and only very few people have or want to have a gun - basically only hunters.
In Switzerland gun ownership is a different story but they still don't have a problem with gun related crimes, maybe comparable to Vermont?
Your approach to handle predators with guardian dogs is the most intelligent way and is proven to have been successful for thousands of years.
Again nice content and all the best from the black forest
Keep up the good work of being you Duck Boy. Thanks for posting your videos.
Your way of explaining your opinion is perfect. I dont believe youd offend or upset anyone on either side of the spectrum since you worded it so nicely! I had similar views of someone who wasnt a fan of guns until I had a home break in when I was by myself (I'm a small woman in her 20s) and in those moments of big fear even having something to protect myself would be life saving. Keep up the videos! Love ya!
As an avid gun owner and member of a couple of gun advocacy groups I appreciated your take on the issue. Thanks
part of my love for your channel is your personality and take on things. I love that you added this, I don't mind if I disagree with you. In this case I actually don't at all, but even if I did I appreciate you sharing your perspective and I hope you feel safe to do so when you want to. Thank you (:
Great handling of a controversial subject, Morgan! I don’t totally agree with you, but I always appreciate that you’re willing to listen to another side of an issue and consider it.
Thank you for sharing this. I'm in a similar spot with my homestead. We're dealing with some serious predator pressure and I need to protect my animals. I also feel the same way about guns and regulations though. My view is shifting (amazing how fast it shifts when a coyote is within 10 feet of your home) but I want to be sure to utilize these tools in a safe way, particularly since we have children in our home. I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one going through this.
Great video, Morgan!
Good job duck boy! Well thought, well videoed. Your UA-cam followers are rational, common sense people...at least for the most part. Your journey, your story. We are just along for the ride, learning along with you.
thanks for sharing I love your story it's truly rare to see level headed people now days
I right there with ya. I find it really difficult to have a good conversation about more controversial topics with most people because I tend to fall in the middle of most of those hot button topics and most people I know are very far on one side or the other of said controversial topics.
When I moved into a rural area my attitude about guns also changed. They are a necessary tool for a farm and the sheriff can take awhile to arrive at our property. Another great video.
@Black Dog Apiary and Farm ,
The police seldom are on hand at the time that you may need them. Even if they are it doesn't mean that they will do anything. That cop was ON the school grounds when the shooting started and he damned sure didn't save anyone except himself did he ? As the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled , it is not the function of the police to protect private citizens. They will protect politicians and other members of government but not you !
Can appreciate your concerns about peoples feelings on guns. I grew up going to the gun club every Saturday starting at 7 years old. Learning respect and safety are top of my list for gun ownership. Growing up in RI and surrounded by farms with guns in almost every house around us seemed 2nd nature.
Good one. Thanks.
I just absolutely love your videos. Thank you!
Love it when videos are well presented and content is well composed. Good job. Kuddos. Makes me want to own a flock of ducks though cause of this show. 😂😂
For the duck ramp--maybe a few rolls of that rubbery feeling shelf/drawer liner stuff. I know they sell it at Wal Mart.
Appreciate your honest and thoughtful approach to gun ownership
Loved your video, good talk about the guns. My granddaughter and I enjoy your channel.
I've kept poultry all my life and its safe to say Ducks and geese are terrible at jumping and going down ramps, however, after testing many different ramps the best one I've found is having 1inch strip, the miss 1inch, then 1inch strip. Pretty much the same as what you have, but closer together.
Hope this helps and keep up the great work!!
Music is spot on again. Did your old marketing gig involves video advertising?
As you mentioned living in a city means a totally different lifestyle than living in a farm out there where you can rely on yourself. You cannot call the cops every time a skunk takes a chicken. It is important to take good lessons not only on how to shoot, but also on ballistic curves cleaning and maintenance. The better a gun is kept and understood the safer is.
Your video makes ME happy! I too grew up in a non-gun household. Then my mom became a cop, but it was still scary. Then I joined the Army and I learned how to manage a gun safely. I began dating dudes who were not anti-gun. Eventually I married a guy who is "into" guns. Now I own a couple of my own. I agree that there's a huge gap between the two sides and then there are people like me (or I guess us, since we seem to share this view), who believe that we should have them, but that we also need better control of who can get them (and what kind we can get). I hope that more of us middle-of-the-roaders are able to speak up without one side or the other completely flipping out at us, because honestly I think we're the majority. We just aren't as wound up as the 2 opposing sides so our voice, so far, hasn't really been heard. I don't know why youtube suddenly started pushing your videos into my suggested feed but I'm glad it did. Hi. Glad to meetcha.
This conversation of guns was wonderful and sane. I really think this shows who you are. I am a fan and will be following you .
Great camera angles 👌
thank you for your level headed comments. we met at hoa
Love your videos, your doing very for yourself. You are so right firearms are just a tool. How does Allison feel about them.?
I appreciate that you shared your views- nuance is a critical thing that seems to be lacking in today's society. Thanks for always being so thoughtful. =o
I'm in a similar middle-ground position with guns. My partner is an avid hunter, and there's a pellet rifle by the back door in case something threatens our chickens or rabbits (as has happened before), but I don't personally shoot (autistic brain doesn't like sudden/jarring noises/movement). Good on you for making a responsible and well-thought-out decision on the matter.
Sorry for the lame comment.. you tell a good story and all but half the time I just watch for the dynamic camera work. Super visually engaging 👍~Heather
For the sake of the ducks, I'm glad to hear you've mostly overcome your fear of guns :)
Dude thank you for sharing your opinion about guns. You handled a very difficult issue very well. Honestly, I’m right there with you as a person who grew up ashamed of guns and then realized as an adult there is a real place for them.
Hey I just wanted to say thanks for talking about this. I live in a very liberal area, and I have pretty far-left views myself but this topic we agree on generally. I think the attitudes of both pro-gun/2nd amendment folks and anti-gun folks are pretty rigid and extreme on the spectrum, this can interfere with the ability of everyone to have a meaningful conversation about gun safety and culture that serves the needs of the most people possible. I appreciate that you have a logical, good-faith, honest, and nuanced position on the topic. I think people like you can help to bridge the divide on this topic and help to facilitate an honest dialog. Been watching your content for a while now, and I really enjoy your positive attitude and high quality footage, and your jokes make me laugh almost every time. Keep up the great work! Best wishes from Seattle, Wa.
The Bernie face made my isolated Easter happier. G'night quacken. G'night duck boy.
Morgan, for your duck ramp. Maybe put a short first step on the end that the ramp will let down on. As long as the step is not too high they can step up onto the ramp that is now not as steep!! Can you picture what I'm thinking? As always, I like you video!
Every once in a while I'll see a duck in a youtube thumbnail and get excited, then I see it isn't your channel, then I get a bit sad.
What an absolute lad. I was expecting "duck boi" to preach about how guns arent necessary with the tone at the beginning of the video but I'm glad to know he sits on a safe median. God speed, Duckman.
Great Video!! Bringing up some good points
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I also grew up in a very similar household (except my parents are very conservative), so it is nice to hear your story. For your skunk issue, have you tried reaching out to Mousetrap Mondays??? He is very knowledgable about traps and catching vermin!
Thank you I 100% agree !!!
This is, very likely, one of the most important videos you've made thus far.
It is important to have a rational DISCUSSION about guns. However, the issue is so polarized and therefore framed as a "debate", rather than discussion - as though there needs to be two vehemently opposing sides.
We absolutely need to make room in the middle, for reasonable discussion about safety and regulations.
Good video Morgan.
A word of advice on skunks: they absolutely *love* raw eggs. An old trapper's trick whenever they went after them is to bait with egg over lettuce, so if you are still having some headaches with Pepe Le Pew (the french skunk from Loony Tunes if anyone reading this didn't get the reference), then give that a try.
Great video Morgan! Nice addressing of controversial topic! Release the quackens! (I look forward to that with every video!)
Morgan I would like to say I share your view of guns! I'm a middle man in this game. So don't think you wrong there is probably quite a few of us that think this way! Always safety first when it comes to guns! Great video brother!
Your raccoon videos recently popped up on my "suggestion" list so I already knew you owned guns. I actually appreciated your take on it when you described how you felt about shooting them. I grew up like you did and have no real reason to have a gun in my life so therefore I don't. But I realized in your raccoon video if I lived on a farm I probably would need one and have to seriously consider getting one. Like others have said, it's the people who view guns as anything other than a tool that scare me.
I'm happy the world has people like you in it. Forget the extremes, it's about practicality and survival; bottom line. Cheers
Very well said and presented
Why is this even a question? Yes...a million times, yes!
BUT!! Be sure to use steel, bismuth, or tungsten shot, not lead. YOU DON'T WANT YOUR DUCKS AND GEESE SWALLOWING LEAD PELLETS!!
That’s the best Clint film moment of all time!

Dude I was literally watching all your other videos so I could see a new one 😂
Hey I noticed on your green tin roof that the fasteners are installed wrong. The fasteners need to be installed on the top of the formed ribs. Less leaks in the future when the rubber gasket fails.
For your duck ramp try dock traction paint. It's grippy, washable, and tough.
