Good explanation! One thing that bugs me is that the HCU also lowered rankings for many high quality websites of people that actually put a lot of effort and resources into creating content. It feels contradictive to what they are saying and telling us. At the same time, low quality Reddit/Quora discussions are dominating the SERPs. I hope Google will change this approach soon and reward high quality websites more. But I have doubts about that...
If they lowered the ranking of these pages, it means that the content was not of high quality. If the content was of high quality, the ranking would go up.
@@panscyzoryk5554 I don't think that's always the right explanation. Google is often ranking bad content at the top for the SERPs. I know a lot of people put a lot of effort into creating high quality content but don't rank high, whereas other bad quality sites do.
Low quality Quora and Reddit posts rule the SERPS these days, this update feels contradictory at best. If they are indeed going down this road, I hope they consider putting up less results from Reddit or Business Insider, that have extremely shallow content but have high DA scores.

Google doesn't know what good content is. How can they? I spend 4+ hours on each article and publish original images yet I got refused for Adsense. I have 19 years experience in my industry and include content that other websites don't have.

Ironically, I run a gaming news site, and people have approached me to put sponsored content on my site, but I reject them for the reasons you've stated. I am worried the content they provide will not meet my standards, and its not worth damaging the sites reputation over a few $. Also, I have seen a lot of SEO's talking about creating content at scale with Auto AI or the like, or buying expired domains to get authority quickly. I feel like Google is watching what the SEO's are saying too and acting accordingly.
I am not sure you can get authority quickly with expired domains, but over time, it can give you an edge if content and new links reflect the history of the domain.
Love this first principles approach. Genuine content. Too many cynics here saying Google is only concerned about ads, but that's based on people using their product, which has to be...useful. So much of page 1 has become garbage, and they know it.

Even though I've been referenced in college textbooks and academic journals, these "rewriters" have crushed my site to nothing. I just got hit very bad by this update so far... about 80% drop, it seems... Quality has no bearing at all, unless you're saying that google knows quality above college textbooks and academic journals. My site has complicated calculators the others don't have also. It's pure SEO manipulation at this point and not about creating something new or something useful for the user. It's "Make 10k a day, using SEOsomething to create cluster keywords, and paying content writers to scrap other people's work, and creating fake E-A-T profiles."
My classified ads is penalized. We have 20k members with around 120k ads. We do not even receive any traffics. Now all my members seems to be running away 😢 Surprisingly, in my local serp there were full of spam website which redirect the page to a casino or naked site. What a shame google..
maybe rely less on backlinks as a signal for "quality" content. it's been abused for over 10 years, I can't imagine they don't have algorithms that can validate content quality based on 0 backlinks these days.
so far I have seen a small increase in traffic. but since we are only a couple days into the update I am a bit nervous now how it will all shake out as most of my content is AI, but human-curated and prompted. No mass posting of articles.

Google is currently automatically ranking my articles, but I know that some of my content is still low quality. What if you wrote 2 new articles a week and use the time you would use for the third article to rewrite a few articles? Then you are still putting out new content but also beefing up existing content.
I recommend all bloggers start networking with fellow bloggers. Find good articles and drop a helpful, friendly comment here and there. I use a simple RSS feed to follow the blogs I like. Its the kind of old school stuff we used to do back in the day. You know, real people connecting with real people. We all shared real, organic traffic and we all made money. Then Facebook came along and people ran there. Its a shame. But, 15 years later, we're back to where we started. Because that's what the average web surfer is looking for - genuine content from people. Not machines. I'm very hopeful with what's happening right now.

I understand the whole AI thing but when writing original content that we write ourselves how are we supposed to know it's "poor" when we think we're doing our best? Google wants to do good things. But it's actually killing blogging. Niche websites are dead. Big sites like Forbes and NY times are ranking in niches they have no idea of. Even Reddit ranks better than niche sites now! I think Google isn't sure themselves of what they are doing most of the times. So, they are going by a hit and trial approach mostly.
You have some interesting points about Google maybe not doing much at all toward us smaller publishers, and is only targeting the major issues, like scaled content. For the rest of us, maybe it is as you've said, they're just telling us 'Hey, better fix your content or you'll be hit."

i still see expired domains being used successfully to get a rank boost to rank for good content. not for sending links to some other sites, but it gets a boost for ranking by itself, compared to new domains.

Google is an ad agency not a search engine. What you see is what they want you to see at the top and and further down the page. The scraps are below that.

I built 3 sites at once testing different methods of creating and publishing content. The 1st site is doing terrible, the 2nd sites is doing ok, and the 3rd site is seeing massive traffic growth.

I have a question about crawling. My website is new with about 11 indexed pages, then I added 20 more pages and it has been over a month without those pages being crawled. I just saw the last crawled date of my HOME PAGE, where all my new posts are linked, is march 4th which is 3 days ago. Why on earth does Google crawl the home page but not the new "discovered, currently not indexed" pages?
You can submit your urls for indexing in Google Console by pasting URL into search bar/Request indexing. If they don't get indexed, it may be a quality issue. Make sure all articles have internal and external links, original images, minimum word count, information gains etc. AISEO plugin is good for keeping on track with quality.
@@surewinenot7113 All the factors you counted in comes into account ONCE the crawling process happens and Google doesn't like what it sees. Crawling doesn't start, takes too long because the page is new ig. And yes, I already submitted them. I just want to make sure that this is not a problem, I'm not waiting for no reason, and Google will eventually crawl them. I thought this long time of waiting was normal until I saw the home page gets crawled but not the newer pages, this arised some doubts in my head but I guess Google is doing Google things and soon the crawling will happen hopefully.
I submitted my sitemap in the last 2-3 weeks. No issues with that being crawled. And thereafter I have manually requested indexing of several other posts, with no issues. The last was March 4th. The last post submitted is still not showing as indexed in the Page indexing report, but I manually checked that post and it was indexed on the 4th. The Page indexing report does state that only "example" pages are shown in the report, and gives a couple of reasons why. In my case my site was last crawled before I submitted this post for indexing. So, you might have indexed your pages/posts and not realised it. But if not manually submit the post/pages like @surewinenot7113 states.

It’s one of several things that still needs to be finished from our website rebuild. It was also a bit outdated and needs to be revisited. It’ll be back soon but wasn’t quite as high a priority as some other things that I’ve been correcting this week.
Well 4 of my sites where hit with a manual penalty for "pure spam"... Sits that I built before AI, that don't have much content (50~100 posts, all human written and edited)... So a flub on Google's part or what?
They are doing a wonderful job, they flagged two of my accounts, one never used, another with 11 posts, so 2 accounts with a total of 11 posts are a spam threat. Know what I think? This is a ploy to actually eliminate inactive accounts rather than add servers with a technobabble gibberish explanation.
Thank you google. Back in August I was getting about 1500 views a day. Today, 100-150. Who is beating me? Quora, Reddit, Tiktoc, Facebook, e-commerce pages, content that is only 150 words long, content of a similar topic, offtopic content, etc. Also, suddenly, my new posts are taking a lot longer to get indexed. Back in August, my pages would take 2-5 days to get indexed. Today they are taking about 2 months to show up. But on all the other search engines, almost all my content ranks in the top 3.
The thing I find interesting with using ai for content - it’s so so so easy to just go with whatever is outputted without editing, thinking…she’ll be alright mate! It’s human nature and there’ll be a bloody ton of this out there. Nuh-uh!

If Google truly tackles the issue with buying backlinks from authoritative sites then this will be the greatest thing they have ever done
they cannot find out, there is just no way to find out this for sure every time. but they will restrict many aspects of everything else.

But it's actually killing blogging.
Niche websites are dead. Big sites like Forbes and NY times are ranking in niches they have no idea of.
Even Reddit ranks better than niche sites now!
I think Google isn't sure themselves of what they are doing most of the times.
So, they are going by a hit and trial approach mostly.
You have some interesting points about Google maybe not doing much at all toward us smaller publishers, and is only targeting the major issues, like scaled content. For the rest of us, maybe it is as you've said, they're just telling us 'Hey, better fix your content or you'll be hit."

Google does read articles. They crawl all of the content that’s not marked “no index” or password protected.

I have a feeling the reputation abuse/spam is more related to Reddit and LinkedIn type of content and not news websites that have guest posts, BUT we shall see!
i still see expired domains being used successfully to get a rank boost to rank for good content. not for sending links to some other sites, but it gets a boost for ranking by itself, compared to new domains.

My current website is based on slogans and name ideas. I have around 80 visitiors a day. Filed adsense before but rejected, maybe due to less content. Now i have 80 articles. Shall i approach adsense again with this traffic or wait until i reach 100 visitors a day?
It's weird because I got approved in absence with less than 10 blog post on one of my sites about last two years.
What was the reason given by Absence for the rejection again?

Google gave me 2-3 reasons like less content, authority (maybe bz i didnt open social media accounts) . So i think bz there was less content. But i hVent applied again. Thinking to do after 1 month.

I built 3 sites at once testing different methods of creating and publishing content. The 1st site is doing terrible, the 2nd sites is doing ok, and the 3rd site is seeing massive traffic growth.

Thanks for sharing this with us Ricky. For me the question is will this help some of our legitimately good sites that were "punished" by a helpful content update start coming back up? I purchased two large websites last year and both were hit very hard. I have not done much with them yet but plan to make the posts more helpful and unique.

I have a question about crawling. My website is new with about 11 indexed pages, then I added 20 more pages and it has been over a month without those pages being crawled. I just saw the last crawled date of my HOME PAGE, where all my new posts are linked, is march 4th which is 3 days ago. Why on earth does Google crawl the home page but not the new "discovered, currently not indexed" pages?
You can submit your urls for indexing in Google Console by pasting URL into search bar/Request indexing. If they don't get indexed, it may be a quality issue. Make sure all articles have internal and external links, original images, minimum word count, information gains etc. AISEO plugin is good for keeping on track with quality.
@@surewinenot7113 All the factors you counted in comes into account ONCE the crawling process happens and Google doesn't like what it sees. Crawling doesn't start, takes too long because the page is new ig. And yes, I already submitted them. I just want to make sure that this is not a problem, I'm not waiting for no reason, and Google will eventually crawl them. I thought this long time of waiting was normal until I saw the home page gets crawled but not the newer pages, this arised some doubts in my head but I guess Google is doing Google things and soon the crawling will happen hopefully.
I submitted my sitemap in the last 2-3 weeks. No issues with that being crawled. And thereafter I have manually requested indexing of several other posts, with no issues. The last was March 4th. The last post submitted is still not showing as indexed in the Page indexing report, but I manually checked that post and it was indexed on the 4th. The Page indexing report does state that only "example" pages are shown in the report, and gives a couple of reasons why. In my case my site was last crawled before I submitted this post for indexing. So, you might have indexed your pages/posts and not realised it. But if not manually submit the post/pages like @surewinenot7113 states.

It’s one of several things that still needs to be finished from our website rebuild. It was also a bit outdated and needs to be revisited. It’ll be back soon but wasn’t quite as high a priority as some other things that I’ve been correcting this week.

Well 4 of my sites where hit with a manual penalty for "pure spam"... Sits that I built before AI, that don't have much content (50~100 posts, all human written and edited)... So a flub on Google's part or what?

They are doing a wonderful job, they flagged two of my accounts, one never used, another with 11 posts, so 2 accounts with a total of 11 posts are a spam threat. Know what I think? This is a ploy to actually eliminate inactive accounts rather than add servers with a technobabble gibberish explanation.

Thank you google. Back in August I was getting about 1500 views a day. Today, 100-150. Who is beating me? Quora, Reddit, Tiktoc, Facebook, e-commerce pages, content that is only 150 words long, content of a similar topic, offtopic content, etc.
Also, suddenly, my new posts are taking a lot longer to get indexed. Back in August, my pages would take 2-5 days to get indexed. Today they are taking about 2 months to show up. But on all the other search engines, almost all my content ranks in the top 3.

I’m not seeing niche websites being relevant in the future. Eventually society will just go to AI and ask the questions they need answered. I been selling my portfolio of sites the last few months.
i can extract the vast knowledge of AI and post it on the internet for google to index.
Most people are super lazy and want to take the easy road. Do the opposite of what most people are doing. It’s about info gain for Google.
