My Kia Stinger Has Been RECALLED?! My Thoughts, Details, Concerns

- Here is a video of me talking about the current recall for the 3.3 V6 engined Kia Stingers. I go in depth about what the recall is for, what has to be done to fix it, my concerns, and my opinion on how it's been handled so far. Recalls happen with a lot of different cars, it is not limited to performance cars, but I am not surprised that a recall happened with my car, as it is the only performance car made by Kia, so it was bound to happen at some point in my opinion.
My dealership did a great job with the recall on my GTS. I was supposed to get it back the same day but they had a tech call out and they have 5 stingers that day. Picked it up next day and car never missed a beat. Kudos to Gerald Kia of Naperville.
That's amazing! That's basically how my experience was, aside from the 5 stingers in and a tech calling out. I was the 3rd one that my dealer did, and they did a perfect job. I've driven it over 3,000 miles since the recall with no issues!
I notified my local dealership of the recall as they had my stinger for 2 days to change tires. They didnt inspect my car… i went to schedule an appointment with them 2 weeks later and i drop the car off and 15 mins later these guys say they dont have the part to complete the recall. They sent me off with no future appointment, no inspection, and now im waiting for the part to come in that i dont even know if i need or not… i called kia customer support and theyve been watching for the part daily but my local dealer is so incompetent and unorganized that i have no idea if im safe to drive around or not. I asked customer service what happens in the event i do have a fire and the dealership has failed to let me know if im safe to continue further driving and they have no answers. Not satisfied with the service or the answes provided and ive never had an issue with the car. Definitely scared to get this recall completed
Yeah, unfortunately that is the type of thing that I address in the video. It really does come down to which dealer you use. It really shouldn't matter, and they should all be able to handle the situation, but unfortunately for whatever reason that isn't the reality of the situation. I just happened to get lucky and my dealer was very good with all of this. I would still stick with it and get it done. Maybe see if the next closest dealer to you can help you better!
This recall is a total shitshow experience. Some dealers don't even know what a stinger is. Some owners had parts broken, coolant not bled leading to engine OVERHEATING after they took it home. The idea of dropping the entire engine is plain stupid. The fact that the techs can't follow simple god damn instructions is not good. They also initially tell owners they don't have to drop the engine and then change their mine while your car is in pieces while waiitng for weeks and MONTHS for parts.
So yeah also another thing to mention ia that its affecting stingers built before mid 2022 year models. I would wait on this unless you have a problem already and take a major gamble being a beta tester. I have a 23 GT2 and am not affected by this recall thank god.
It's every model year with a 3.3 engine. If you have a 2.5 then yeah, you're fine. No dealer should be holding your car without parts. My dealer wouldn't even start taking anything apart until the parts were ordered and delivered so if anybody is having that happen, that dealership is idiotic and does not know how to run itself properly. I personally have not heard of that happening anywhere. A few days to maybe a week? Sure. Months? Not even possible. The recall was released barely a month ago.
Left hand turbo oil feed pipe on my 2018 Kia Stinger GT. Hesitant to get it done.
Same
I'd at least get it inspected. If oil ignites in your engine bay your car is done. You will not be able to stop an engine fire.
In Toronto Canada and am going to wait another couple weeks to give the techs time to practice on other stingers first 😅
Admittedly I was one of the first my dealership did, but the car has had no issues since getting it done! From what I've heard, if your car comes back with issues after the recall, its noticeable almost immediately.
I have a 2022 GT2…here is how mine is playing out….5/15 went in for inspec/parts order….5/22 took it in…it sat for days and not worked on until 5/27, they did get me a rental….they said there were 3 other Stingers /K900 for the same issue. Im hoping to pick it up today…5/29…its a huge project. The Svc guy said KIA allots 3hrs for the repair when infact its more like 2 days and the Tech has to be qual to do the work. I found a schematic online of how the project is done….im very worried on how the rebuild will go…I pray they follow it carefully. Once again! HUGE deal! Hoping it does not need to go back. To me…there is no other car that gives you more for the $$. More to follow. Fingers crossed.
Yeah, it's definitely not a 3 hour job. It takes longer than 3 hours just to take everything off that needs to be taken off. I think the area where most people are having issues is putting everything back together properly. If something isn't reinstalled correctly it definitely could cause issues. One reason why I took mine in early was so I wasn't stuck in a queue and without a car for a week, even though that meant being somewhat of a guinea pig. Hoping it goes smoothly! Luckily mine has had no issues since getting it back!
@@FrimAutos just got home…drove normal….only time will tell.
@@Jetjourney If you made it home I think you're good :)
Are you going to post a video on how your recall went?
Yes, I will film it and put it up in the next day or two!
im also in colorado, what dealer are you taking yours too for this recall work?
Fowler Kia in Longmont
Miss seeing that road in the intro
Where are you at now?
Just got the recall done on 22 stinger. Car does not sound the same. Theres another sound coming from the engine never heard it before. Sounds like a dull reving sound secondary to the normal reving sound that was always present
When do you hear it? Always or just under acceleration or what?
I hear it when im accelerating, and hear it wind down when I let off the gas. It's like a secondary sound to the already present reving sound
@@chrisali73 Do you have an exhaust or are you stock? I don't hear any differences like that with my car, but I have a full exhaust system so my car is really loud lol.
Is this recall for stinger GT-Line or just the GT?
This is only for 3.3 V6 models. If you have the 2.5 or the 4 cylinder, it does not apply!
Same 2018 gt2 but not sure
In NJ they replaced it immediately
What exhaust is that 😮
Have full videos of the exhaust on my channel. Take a gander ;)
mines never had a problem it’s now at 102k miles
Mine has been pretty bulletproof so far as well! Only one semi serious issue and it was fixed under warranty. 102k miles is imoressive! I'm about to hit 33k 🤣
@@FrimAutosI’m at 128k only thing I had to replace was the starter due to the lame isg system.
@@mowglig9382 128k is awesome!
