  • Close competitive racing is what everyone is wanting and is often what we get when racing out Tamiya cars. Tamiya racing is one of the best forms of beginner racing but there are some issues. Mark and Carl both running the TT01e with core 21 motor at most tracks.
    The super tight track at MKRCCC is great for GT12 and MTC but a little tight and technical for the bigger 1/10 car such as the TT01's
    sticking with the 58spur gear is ideal for indoor racing. on the big tracks like the iconic cup events a 55 spur gear is what you need and when it comes to truck racing the 61 tooth spur gear is often made compulsory.
    So what is the problem with these cars... changing the spur gear is such a big job when it should really be so much easier.

    One tip: When removing the wires from the motor, be sure to clean the connections of old solder and then re-tin the connections before soldering the ESC wires to it. This will avoid the possibility of a dry joint.

    For people who do not realize yet (and there are), tt01 are supposed to compete against... tt01/tt02 chassis. No matter how good of a driver u are or how many upgrade get, tt01 are not competitive chassis outsode tamiya cups. They are very well made and fun starter and u may get VERY good at driving and modifuing it but u will reach a cap and eventually need to move on something else.
    Get them stock, add some essential upgrades and run against other tt chassis or just to have fun, do not spend hundreds , it is not worth it.

    To keep the weathered look on the shell you need to do something to the wheels to match. The nice, clean white wheels are in stark contrast to the body. The weathered theme has to carry throughout 😊.

    I have one for you….my biggest complaint or issue with the TT01 (other than what you identified re the spur gear change) is the GB2 part (spur gear stopper). I have 3 TT01s that get driven occasionally but all have seen the GB2 melt and fuse to the spur gear. I’ve seen this happen with brushless, super stock motors, and the Torque Tuned. It’s frustrating!

  • @tm5123
    @tm5123 Рік тому +1

    You can "fudge" the spurgear+axle assembly into the TT01, example here ua-cam.com/video/yc4t2FfpTUM/v-deo.html Tho granted, its a bit of a faff, but for my part, I've taken out the spur like 2 times in a year, so its not something I'd consider a big deal. If you'd have to change gear ratios at every track, I'd probably throw the TT01 into a woodchipper. Carson Dragster ESC is a rebranded HW 1060. Cars looking good mate, hope the races go great :D One suggestion, if allowed by the rules, is the metal motor mount, as if your engine gets hot, the plastic motor mount can flex a bit more, and then you end up possibly chewing up your Spur gear. With a metal motor mount, and a steel pinion, your spur will last pretty much forever. Cheers for the great content! :D

    I love these videos. I'm addicted. I use to race in Southampton in the early 2000s with my Tamiya TL01. Question. I use to race with a 21 turn LRP motor. Is 21T the ground standard for this type of racing? I understood that the step up was then 17T 14T and then 12T. Or is it different for each club?

    • @PopalongRC
      @PopalongRC  Рік тому +1

      Most clubs run core21 which is a cheap motor but also torque tuned motor which I believe is a 23 turn
      At iconic last year there was a 17 turn team powers motor as the stock motor.
      With the faster touring cars they are now using brushless tech.

    Sorry mate,but that soldering is so bad it made my eyes water. At least heat the wire and then apply solder to it when it's hot, so that the solder flows into it . Twisting the wire first so that it doesn't resemble a mangled paint brush helps too... but hey, it's your car...
