    it was still far off from exposing the silicon die. the pattern was not related to the underlying silicon, it's way smaller than the pattern that was visible

      @Azreal-_- Yes thermal paste fills the gaps but a metal to metal contact is way superior for thermal contact, that’s why 3rd party heat spreaders are more effective because they are flatter than the mass produced heat sinks by intel/AMD.

      its spelled that way because intel is the short form abbreviation for intelligence, for a company basically specialized in computer memory, its quite befitting tbh, back in the day intel made a good chunk of the Sram and Dram computer components which can be thought of as intel storage.

    You wouldn't be able to see the pattern of the chip on the inside through the copper. Copper isn't translucent. You'd see solder first before you saw any pattern of the chip.

      I think you mean thermal paste. If your IHS came soldered to the silicon wafer, the computer would not work

      @@Duck_side newer intel cpu's come with a soldered ihs. They do work because the solder only touches the top of the bare chip. Go watch any modern de lidding tutorial or do some basic research.

      and if the temps have been too high the die will have degraded or the silicon could be damaged

    For anyone that wonders what a CPU actually looks like, look up delidded CPU. That's just a piece of metal that makes contact with the real components of the CPU so that it's protected and easier to cool with a cooler
