I always thought the term My Old Man is cute when talking about your father. Happy Father’s Day, to My Old Man. But the same term applies to one’s husband. My husband would be called My Old Man, or simply Daddy. I never actually applied these terms to my husband. He’s too young to be called an old man, and I never called him Daddy in the history of our marriage. Our children call him Daddy. I don’t have a relationship with my own father because he’s mentally unstable diagnosed with schizophrenia. So I have always wanted a close relationship with someone who I can call my father, my old man, my Daddy. I didn’t realize until now, how much I have in common with Marilyn Monroe. Loneliness, and wanting a father figure for affection. I love my husband. He and I both need more supportive friends in our lives. We try to make friends with people these days, but it’s hard. His mom is dead, and his dad has dementia. He’s always called Bruce Willis his dad. He’s the father my husband always wanted. But Bruce has dementia also. What a shame! I miss my dad, and my husband is not my dad. I haven’t seen him in 6 years. He’s been long gone for a while. Not dead, just mentally gone, and physically out of sight.
