Great suggestions! I 'm self-taught early intermediate. I try to "stretch" my hands and mind by attempting pieces like Chopin preludes and etudes even if I
only get through one or two measures..I feel like I accomplished a new and exciting feat. Then the more elementary pieces look easier.

Thank you, Jeeyoon! I am sight reading simple things in the line of Chopin Mazurkas as an exercise although I confess that I don't do that on a daily basis as I should.- A tip I got from my mom: When there are big chords with lots of accidentals go to the bare bones" and play only the 2 extreme notes and one in between and flow with the harmony :)

Thank you, Jeeyoon, for another super cool video and sharing with our UA-cam family some very helpful sight reading (SR) tips.
Thinking about your comment to keep pulse going reminded me of a little music humor: What are the 3 most important things to do while SR? 1) keep going 2)keep going 3) keep going 😁
I was also excited to learn about “war-battle zone” improving SR. It connected the dots for me personally. As a university student I had to successfully sight read a 4 part hymn in front of a music jury, to pass basic music major piano requirements, and it definitely put me on high alert. It was probably the best SR I had done in my life, LOL - and I always wondered why. To hear you say we use all senses in stressful SR environment really made the internal light bulb 💡 turn on. Thanks for that information!
Really appreciate your time, thoughts, helpful insights, each and every week!
    Here’s a true story about stressful sight reading . . . .
Once upon a time. On a campus far, far away. A guest vocalist arrived at a university to give a concert. The vocalist and university quickly became frantic after learning that, due to unforeseen events, the vocalist’s accompanist was not going to make it. So, instead of canceling the concert, the university immediately called my aunt, who was the faculty’s ninja sight reader, and asked if she could accompany the vocalist’s entire evening concert. She agreed. But, not only did she successfully pull it off, she had a fever and dragged herself out of a sick bed to do so. Safe to say she probably had to dig really deep for that one!
Every once in a while I recall, still with amazement, your experience with the no music church . . . .

I’m a 50 year old beginner w piano and sheet music notation.
I struggle for several reasons; I cannot instantly recognize the notes on the staff especially ledger line notes. I have to think about each note for a moment before I play it.
Also, I have to keep looking down at piano keys then looking up, etc which is horribly slow especially if I lose my place. This is my biggest problem and I’m not even sure how to fix it bc if I don’t look down, I’ll hit wrong keys too often.
Also, I can’t play left hand bass clef so I just play chords w my left, and right hand treble notes. The Bass Clef is completely different than the right hand staff so I just play simple chords w left hand and it still sounds nice I think.
Let’s face it, I’m too old for this instrument and reading music but I still enjoy it even though it’s so horribly difficult.
Thank you for your wonderful video, you are an amazing pianist and I truly appreciate your videos. 🙂

Really liked your last point. I usually sight read much less or not at all when I have just started one/two new pieces but 15-20 mins daily when I am trying to polish the same repertoire over and over. Hope it will pay off in 6-12 months! :)
