I run a Haas machine which has a 15k HSK63-A spindle, which to my understanding is the OTT-JAKOB HSK-B clamping unit. If I am wanting to use thru spindle coolant, do I need to install a threaded coolant tube into my tool holders in order to protect the seals inside the unit, or does it function without them?
Hi Wild Bill 77! If you are now wanting to use coolant, you will need to install a coolant tube in your tool holder(s) in order to protect the gripper. This is because if you do not have a coolant tube then the coolant could wash out the Metalflux grease on the fingers that amplify the HSK pull-force and reduces wear. An additional tip is to switch to air blast at standstill (0 RPMs) after machining and blow any excess coolant out. This will make sure there is very little coolant droplets left when the tool is released! If you have any further questions please reach out to korey@ame.com!
