true - though it was more like the final straw. Bidens numbers looked horrible before the debate, it was already statistically basically over for him before the debate even started
It's kind of weird to see someone asking this question after having just seen a candidate drop out of the race because of a poor performance. I think I know the answer to this one.
So funny I was listing to an earlier 538 podcast today singing the intro and I was like, ugh I want an A cappella version of the into. Make it happen you 3 singers. If not please higher the Pentatonix to do a cover.
For years, I have been cringing through Galen's intros on my way to the sweet juicy numbers, but yknow what? This one got me. And i dont even like Rent! Good job!
16:00 Voters absolutely care about Trump's word salad rambles. But all the voters that care about his increasingly obvious signs of Alzheimer's disease are already voting for Harris.
I'm not so sure about that. There very well might be a number of nose-holding Trump voters or undecided voters who haven't heard more than soundbites of the man since his "late great Hannibal Lecter" phase began. And in a debate, there is also an element of contrast that isn't usually so plain to see.
I still think the debate doesn't matter for the most part, in most elections. But sometimes, it does matter. This time, given many circumstances, it seems that it matters.
Yes. Typically if you have more money things don’t seem as expensive to you as when you have less money bc you’re paying less as a proportion of your paycheck. Thats basic math and logic, or at least it would be if people thought more rationally 🤦🏻♀️

I don't get why these panelists keep claiming that the economy was better under Trump. The economy ended up as a disaster under Trump. Yes, the price of gas was low, because everyone was out of work and no one could go anywhere or do anything.
No they dont ... 1. Theyre literally not debates! I beling to debate societies 2. In the case of especially liberals...it doesn't matter if their candidate fails or exposes themselves to be tools...they will still vote the same. I can write 20k words on this . We all knpw these debates are stupid
I started listening to 538 in 2019 but, after seeing how blatantly biased your network was during the debate, I no longer trust ANY of you. You didn't do yourselves any favors there.
Congressman Dean Phillips would have been a much better Democratic nominee for President than Kamala Harris. He had respect for Trump supporters and wasn't a progressive. Also, he won far more votes and delegates in the 2024 Democratic primary process than her. A Trump and Phillips debate would be far more competitive and substantive on policies.
The last one literally led to a sitting president ending his re election campaign
Those were under incredible circumstances, though.

I mean a candidate dropping out because of a debate is.... ✨Unprecedented!✨

What about "Please proceed, Governor?" I remember watching that and gasping at Romney just walking into it.
For your a cappella group you should sing “talk data to me”
What we want though is more buying power without rising prices. Otherwise we are simply spinning our wheels.

If Bill Clinton can play the sax on late night tv and Lara Trump can drop a single, you folks can definitely release "Seasons of Data" 😂
Those two performances are not equally disturbing.
Product prices are getting better and better to pre covid level. So, cake is not yet backed
Why do we not get video on the full podcast anymore?
Still no video!?!?! Miss you guys, but I refuse to watch a youtube "video" with no video.
Cutting rates from would mean the economy is horrible.
The rates arent that high right now.

Specific policies and plans are exactly what I want to see from Harris. Because so far, her talking points don't match her past and current actions.

It might be a better game if you also give points for correct sequences of guesses
They should have held this debate from the forward deck of the SS United States instead of the constitution center…

I can’t believe Trump is the favorite.
He's minus 20 net favorability. And while I think it's slightly more likely than not that Harris digs this out, it's close to a coin flip.
