  • Sechseläuten is a traditional spring festival celebrated in Zurich, Switzerland, marking the end of winter and the arrival of spring. The highlight of the festival is the burning of the Böögg, a large snowman figure made of straw and filled with fireworks. According to local tradition, the quicker the Böögg's head explodes during the burning, the better the upcoming summer weather will be.
The festival has its roots in the 16th century, originally related to the city's guilds marking the change from winter to summer working hours. Over the years, it has evolved into a major public event featuring a grand parade with participants in historical costumes, including guild members, music bands, and horse-drawn carriages. The festivities occur on the third Monday of April and culminate in the ceremonial burning of the Böögg at Sechseläutenplatz near Lake Zurich.
The event is steeped in tradition and local culture, drawing spectators both local and international to witness the vibrant and historical celebration
