And let me tell you Chris The Rottweiler. Even AAA game developers (EA, BioWare, Konami, Blizzard, Activision, Ubisoft, Epic, 2K, Bethesda, Warner Bros and Microsoft) were (and still are) really hostile, toxic and evil individuals. They are SO addicted to lootboxes, microtransations, DLCs, Season Passes, DRM, lag, paid mods, glitches, and money. They should be regulated, sued and forced to stop. Because they are absolute PLAGUE. They are also addicted to mobile gaming, and it's worse than PC gaming. Modern gaming is shittier and worse compared to retro gaming. I will forever stick to Nintendo, Sony and PC.
They didn’t technically lie. The animations of Pokémon and people outside of battle are really good. As are the animations for signature moves. More importantly, that controversy never resulted in government officials stepping in.
I'll summarize Gamergate for those who haven't heard of it: Blogger: My abusive girlfriend cheated on me with [well-known Kotaku journalist]. Internet people: Wait a second, it looks like [Kotaku journalist] gave [girlfriend]'s game positive coverage on multiple occasions with no disclosure that they're close friends. You can't do that. Kotaku & other games media: Wow, you internet people sure hate women.
We won, Gamergate. All our opponents are semi forgotten jokes, Games Journalism was exposed for the cesspool it is, and we never killed anyone like Quinn did.
Honestly surprised that the OG Destiny launch isn't on here, I remember lots of complaints about it, for basically its entire life cycle. Guess it got overshadowed by waaay bigger controversies.
Because what followed that was way bigger and more serious. People received several sexist insults and even death threats, dude. Also, Breitbart and Milo Y. (and the alt-right in general) could give two shits about ethics in gaming journalism.
Bruno Mantovaneli waaaay biggger and more serious than journalistic integrity, oh, ok. Fuck it if people spend a billion dollars on a game because critics said it was good after receiving a BJ. Who cares about where the money went, people are pissed at the person who bribed the editors and also happens to be a woman.
@@Mogget01 The death threats were never real and instead were just used to give them press converge and get people to donate to their patreon. If you look it up there is not a single shred of proof other than the people found to be lying and taking bribes saying it happened.
For gamers, maybe, but for the public as a whole, it's barely a blip. And considering "spread" was one of their factors, that kinda limits it from getting higher. Plus, even in gaming, if you don't care about Konami and Hideo Kojima, then it doesn't affect you, but things like microtransactions hurt everyone.
Bernardo Heusi Addictions typically develop to substances or activities that make us feel good. For instance, alcohol can relax us and cocaine can make us feel energized and happy. Substances that influence emotion because of their biochemical effects are called psychoactive. Even substances which are not “biochemically psychoactive” can become “psychologically psychoactive” because of learned associations to them. For instance, someone who drinks water after every workout might associate water and relaxation. Or an herbal tea (which has no caffeine) might be associated with peacefulness or relaxation. To help clarify the significance of substances or activities making us feel good, let’s make a comparison to something that makes us feel bad: phobias. Most of us are exposed to elevators, freeway driving, heights, insects, and other aspects of daily life. Only a few of us develop phobias (excessive fears) to these objects. Although it is possible to develop a phobia to anything, in practice most phobias occur to predictable objects and situations. These phobias are predictable because their objects or situations are fearsome in at least some degree to most people, because of the possible (even if unlikely) connection to survival. If elevator cables break, an auto accident occurs, a fall occurs, or you get bitten by a disease carrying insect, death may result. We get phobic about these kinds of objects. We typically don’t get phobic about desks, books, sidewalks, or other almost always benign objects, but we could, under the right circumstances. Similarly, addictions typically develop to substances or activities that make us feel good or happy. We can learn or associate a connection between any substance or activity, and an emotion. It’s just easier to make the connection to emotion when the substance or activity is already doing most of the work. Alcohol is naturally relaxing for most. Cocaine is naturally uplifting (at first, in small doses) to most. If the substance is water, the connection to an emotion would typically take longer to make. The point of recognizing that we could be addicted to anything is to recognize that ultimately addiction is a type of relationship. Addiction is not ultimately dependent on the nature of the substance or activity, because it could happen with any of them. Although we get phobic about typical things, we could become phobic about anything. If addiction is a relationship then there is no one “most addictive” substance or activity. Heroin or crack cocaine is often suggested to be the most addictive substance. More individuals might seek a second experience with these substances than might with some other substances (although no one has ever proven this). However, many individuals do not seek a first experience. Many other individuals stop after a few experiences. Furthermore, those who have quit heroin and cigarettes, or crack cocaine and cigarettes, state that even though they enjoyed heroin or cocaine more, the cigarettes were harder to stop. Like all relationships, addictive relationships have many components. For a particular individual there may be a “most addictive” relationship. This is often called the “drug of choice.” Why this drug (or activity) is most favored is undoubtedly a complicated interweaving of biology, personal history, personality and circumstance that is well beyond our current ability to explain. We are also not able to explain how individuals with a drug of choice and possibly several additional addictions may also have a mild or non-existent positive response to other “addictive” substances or activities. Although we might be addicted to almost anything, we are usually very far from being addicted to everything. An addiction can develop to any substance or activity, but addictions tend to develop only in those which under normal circumstances make us feel good or happy. An individual may have several addictions, but not “all” addictions. It is not the substance or activity that is ultimately the problem, but our relationship to it. Recovery involves changing that relationship.

And man I hated when the only Hero of Ferelden participance was a letter and banged witch. P.S. The main story is pretty lit though, but still to short. P.P.S. But the way I see it mojo just compared them to Andromeda and Anthem in the sense of all three being a production hell.
Does Capcom's On-Disc DLC controversy count as "Microtransactions"? I remember you couldn't go 5 mins without hearing that another Capcom release in 2012 had it.
Basically a scandal between video game journalists and a maker where $ex was given for good reviews. That was an accusation that never saw a lawsuit. Then political instigators like Anita hijacked it to make it seem like game stereotypes were sexist and causing real harm. With her asking for cash for being a victim. She started a company and it went bankrupt this year.
Zoe Quinn is another who accused an indie developer which caused him to loose his job. with her lachies harrassing him for the "greater good" he ended his life. Even after his sister begged people not to lash at Zoe, the lachies said the same things to her. They are a spiral of hate trying to get in a controversy to act like a victim and get cash from court and such.
Month late reply here but none of the other replies gave a full account of what it was. It started as growing distrust between gamers and the videogame journalism industry, where journos simply couldn't be trusted to give honest reviews as they were usually in the pockets of AAA developers. Journos would be invited to E3 events, launch events and so forth, and it would be paid for by the publisher of the game they were covering. They'd be treated like kings whilst there and given expensive gifts to take back home with them (usually giant TV's, a console, a collector's edition of the game they were covering, etc). These media outlets were also constantly writing articles about how the videogame industry is not inclusive to women and people of colour (false) and gamers are all manbabies. This pissed gamers off for two reasons - because they were insulting them and because their job is to write about games, not the people who play them. When an indie developer (Zoe Quinn) was found to be sucking game journo cocks for good reviews for her shitty indie game that barely even qualifies as a game the whole situation boiled over. Gamers began attacking videogame journalism outlets and videogame journalism outlets began writing articles about how gamers are all literally Nazis who all hate women. Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian hijacked the movement and made it about feminism and misogyny, even going to the UN to beg for them to censor the internet so gamers can't criticize their far-left agenda. A lot of people also faked a lot of death threats and claimed they came from gamers to "prove" how disgusting gamers were. It was silly. Several years later Quinn and Sarkeesian have faded into bankruptcy and oblivion, videogame journalism is a dead industry and most sites have been reduced to begging for money because gamers have abandoned them and the videogame industry is stronger than ever. The end. :D
Please don't put Dragon Age Inquisition in the same boat as ME: Andromeda and Anthem. It's still quite frankly one of the best RPGs from the last twenty years.
Konami probably would never have become famous if it wasn’t for him. Given everything they did after he left, I’m inclined to think that his group was the only one that cared about things beyond profits.
Being in the audience at Blizzcon while that speech about Blitzchung and Hong Kong was made was... pretty awkward. You didn't want to applaud, you didn't want to boo, you didn't really know how to react to the guy. It just felt kind of cheap and 'well we have to do this, quick while they're excited about Diablo 4, do it now!' The protesters outside handing out free t-shirts were awesome though. I kind of expected some harassment, but nope, just a shirt and a chat.
Umm watchmojo? You do realise there are always two sides to every story, right? GamerGate wasn't just made up of trolls and misogynists, it had actual good intentions behind it, but of course, you've gotta go and stand with Anita Sarkeesian and Zoey Quinn because God f*cking forbid you try to actually be unbiased when talking about a situation. Need I remind you that one of those ladies falsely accused a man of sexual assault, which then lead to said man committing suicide! Are you seriously going to just push that aside, because I would personally see the suicide of a beloved game creator as a bigger gaming controversy than GamerGate.
You left out some pretty important information about Gamergate. What about the woman having sex for good reviews? But of course, it's all just a 'broken relationship'.
That's not a problem. I'm not upset about it, and I know that there are tons of other people who also don't care. It's only the competitive players that are so butthurt.
@Gogetters I agree. Any complainers on any side were like watching a pointless reality show. I got bored with the bullshit quick. Instead just played games whatever with whatever characters.
#3 on this list is total BS. We know video games aren't to blame for gun violence in America because gun violence has been a problem since before video games were ever invented. I'd say the main problem stems from the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution and people's continued use and abuse of it. We know that it's outdated and a product of a time when this country was still in the early stages of its development while we were fighting for our freedom to be an independent nation. Back then guns and firearms were just muskets, rifles, and pistols capable of firing one shot at a time and took time to reload. If the founding fathers knew how far weapons and guns would evolve over time, I'm sure they would've reconsidered the Constitution giving US citizens the personal right to have them.
The fact that microtransaction (the predatory monetization) could no longer be a controversy and become a new norm is pretty terrifying. Hopefully government do ban the pay2win elements and loot boxes (or the whole microtransaction in general) before that happens.
What makes me believe they won’t is that at this point, they are too integrated with the system to be removed outright without the whole gaming industry crashing down. This will have to be a process that goes bit by bit. So expect them to stay around for a few more years at the least.
"Sexism remains a prominent problem in the gaming industry." Right off the bat the first sentence tells you this list is all a lie. "Back in the summer of 2018, Kotaku..." Yep. Proof right here.

One politician said that the reason why there are no shootings in Japan because _they don’t have video games._ If that doesn’t have you tearing your hair out in bloody clumps...
I wonder why pay to play online hasn't become a controversy and the fact that game downloads are becoming to beg. I really wish that gaming would be a lot more fair to gamers who don't have a lot of money.
Of course it had to be Gamergate. Zoe Quinn's allegations had caused the pushback against feminism and the MGTOW and fragile masculinity project where men's right activists chant, "IhategirlsIhategirlsIhategirlsIhategirls" with the controversy still being felt today with pushback again women in any media.
Given they attend seminars on how to addict kids to gambling, tried to recruit children as cannon fodder in their war against the government and child exploitation laws, and threw a tantrum over whether their product is gambling, yes where is 2K on the list? Never forget that in the last decade that (some) Indie developers were really hostile and toxic individuals.
Case in point, YandereDev
Phil Fish
That dude that made YIIK
And let me tell you Chris The Rottweiler. Even AAA game developers (EA, BioWare, Konami, Blizzard, Activision, Ubisoft, Epic, 2K, Bethesda, Warner Bros and Microsoft) were (and still are) really hostile, toxic and evil individuals. They are SO addicted to lootboxes, microtransations, DLCs, Season Passes, DRM, lag, paid mods, glitches, and money. They should be regulated, sued and forced to stop. Because they are absolute PLAGUE. They are also addicted to mobile gaming, and it's worse than
PC gaming. Modern gaming is shittier and worse compared to retro gaming. I will forever stick to Nintendo, Sony and PC.
Even RockStar and TakeTwo were shitty with GTA Online. And still are.

I'm surprised that the "Game Freak lied" controversy in regards to Pokemon Shield did not make this list.

They didn’t technically lie. The animations of Pokémon and people outside of battle are really good. As are the animations for signature moves. More importantly, that controversy never resulted in government officials stepping in.

I'll summarize Gamergate for those who haven't heard of it:
Blogger: My abusive girlfriend cheated on me with [well-known Kotaku journalist].
Internet people: Wait a second, it looks like [Kotaku journalist] gave [girlfriend]'s game positive coverage on multiple occasions with no disclosure that they're close friends. You can't do that.
Kotaku & other games media: Wow, you internet people sure hate women.
Shorter than I could put it.
We won, Gamergate. All our opponents are semi forgotten jokes, Games Journalism was exposed for the cesspool it is, and we never killed anyone like Quinn did.
And they're still lying about it 4 years later, give it another few years and GG will be responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs
Bs propaganda
I was anti-Gamergate in 2014 but that was then and this is now. It was a shitshow in some respects, but games journalism needed an overhaul.

Bruno Mantovaneli you honestly think death threats to famous people is a new thing?
Bruno Mantovaneli hey, since you’re so in touch with the topic, how many times has Zoe Quinn been held hostage?
@@Mogget01 The death threats were never real and instead were just used to give them press converge and get people to donate to their patreon. If you look it up there is not a single shred of proof other than the people found to be lying and taking bribes saying it happened.
I feel like the Konami controversy was the worst one this decade
For gamers, maybe, but for the public as a whole, it's barely a blip. And considering "spread" was one of their factors, that kinda limits it from getting higher. Plus, even in gaming, if you don't care about Konami and Hideo Kojima, then it doesn't affect you, but things like microtransactions hurt everyone.
To be fare toward Gaming Disorder, EVERYTHING IS ADDICTIVE. Gaming is no exception.
You are clueless about what is considered real addiction, fool.

Gamergate? What is that, really I actually never heard of it.
They are a spiral of hate trying to get in a controversy to act like a victim and get cash from court and such.
badinfo 7878 Nothing important.
This lady called Anita Sarkisiwhatever who is a gamer but also isn't a gamer made a video about there being too many female butts in video games.

If the founding fathers knew how far weapons and guns would evolve over time, I'm sure they would've reconsidered the Constitution giving US citizens the personal right to have them.
when doa 6 is over $2000 now with micro-transactions
