I was in Ecuador for a month in 2022. I took 4 days out to travel to Chile. Chile was the high point of the trip. Wonderful landscapes, beautiful and friendly people. It was magical.
Spent a lot of time in Chile and it's one of my most favorite places to visit. I'd never know such warm hospitality, amazing food, and incredible natural beauty. Lovely country & people.
One bit of advise on the Mote con Huesillo bro, try it again when you're thirsty, and the day is hot. Trust me, if you found it good now, when you aren't full, and when your feeling thirst, it is the absolute best thing you can have to hydrate.

Amazing what can happen to a tourist on their first day in a country, eg my for first day in Pattaya/Thailand, sitting in a table outside cafe having morning coffee & right there on the road 10'/3m away a man on a moto/motorcycle gets run over by a large truck every wheel ran over the man & moto & the truck did not stop, he were alive for the few mins before the Ambulance arrived...does give a person a heads-up as to what can happen on a more regular basis than where they came from!
Usually vendors speak super fast with lots of slang, sometimes young people too. It is variable i guess but they try their best to speak more neutral and slow with foreigners. Also try artesanal icecream 👍🏻.
Dude, if you do not get to the Andes and to the coast, you are blowing your visit. Valparaiso (called Valpo by locals) area + Temuco/national parks in the Andes are good trips, although Valpo is disappointing because it needs work, like an injection of a billion dollars to retrofit the decaying old city. I guess you are not getting to Patagonia, but that's a trip in itself. I landed in Temuco and of course knew zero Spanish, so I showed a taxi driver a picture of the trees I wanted to see (araucaria auraucana, or monkey puzzle trees, around since BEFORE dinosaurs) and he drove me straight to a lodge in the mountains.The lodge concierge found me a tour off-season (winter) of the trees in the Andes. Spectacular.

Been to Chile a couple times, it's important to know some Spanish to get around. Santiago, Temuco, La Serena, Pucon. Nice, but it always struck me as being decades behind in some ways, some good some not. Chilean Spanish is pretty much as standard as it comes. Just some specific Chilean words and expressions.

Theres a street there, on it is an international hostel and a small pool/sandwich place not far from there, street is called CienFuegos - And to top it off, just for pure perfection, there was a firedepartment there as well. The pool/sandwichplace is in the cheap end, they serve the best Compledo in Chile. Most of the black folks in Chile are from Brazil, not Haiti

I went to Chile in 2009. As a black American guy, I was stared at like an alien everywhere. Back then, there were no Haitian migrants yet so almost no black people existed in Chile. I traveled from Santiago, Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, San Fernando, La Serena. Valle de Elqui, San Pedro de Atacama. I think the whole trip I saw maybe 4 other black people. So we were a very rare site and the stares started to make me very self-conscious everywhere. Maybe it's different now. I also met a very dark and tall black British woman of Ghanaian ancestry who went to Chile and said she didn't like it because of the constant staring that made her uncomfortable. I still had a good time though and think Chile is beautiful and met some nice people.

I traveled from Santiago, Valparaiso, Vina del Mar, San Fernando, La Serena. Valle de Elqui, San Pedro de Atacama. I think the whole trip I saw maybe 4 other black people. So we were a very rare site and the stares started to make me very self-conscious everywhere. Maybe it's different now. I also met a very dark and tall black British woman of Ghanaian ancestry who went to Chile and said she didn't like it because of the constant staring that made her uncomfortable. I still had a good time though and think Chile is beautiful and met some nice people.
yes man, we are used to black people now because theres been a flood of venezuelans, colombians and dominicans so it is normal to see them everywhere.

Well Chileans arent racists, they are more xenophobic than racist. For example Haitians are liked while being full black and Venezuelans being only partially black (and others being just like the average latino mestizo) are strongly disliked because of strong cultural differences and other stuff. So the people was just curious I guess.
