First time watching this kind of match. Dont know what the moves or goals are. One thing I know: I was LMAO with the guy in white. He's like a deadly octopus grabbing hold of its prey.
Many misunderstandings in this comment section... 1. BJJ isn't "real fight". It is a sport with its own rules. So saying about such and such tecniques "bUt IT woUlDnT WorK in The StrEet" is irrelevant. Any experienced JJB guy would still know pretty well how to defend itself in a "real fight". I put those " " because, what is a real fight anyway ? MMA wouldn't work in a real fight if I have a gun. A gun wouldn't work in a real fight if I have a bomb, you see ? 2. BJJ isn't wrestling or judo, emphasized is put on submissions and if pulling guard is easier for you to reach the submission, then why would you try a takedown ? For the aesthetic ? As an experienced JJB fighter, I find it very interesting both when a good guardian pulls guard and when a good wrestler pulls a good takedown. 3. BJJ is done with a gi. If you say that such or such techniques wouldn't work without a gi then congrats, you discovered something big.
Deadly... but not trained so cant see the obvious when Its over. Trained Mauy Thai and it's the real deal for real life, but all somebody as to do is get you on the ground then your training is done and the problem is most will end on the ground . So need to learn JJ for real life defense! Amazing!!!

I dont know if I understand the ibjjf rules right, but I always get the impression that Lo goes away from his opponent guard too much and then comes back. I never see the judges penalize him for that. Isnt that wrong?

They need to change rules somehow to get these guys scoring. I hate these 2-0 or advantage point wins. This was nothing but stalling to try and score last minute. No disrespect these guys earned their blackbelts. There has to be something to get these guys wanting score.

Last year you guys released on all of the road to worlds footage on youtube but this year you have them all on your website behind a paywall. Why? @@Jalapablo one is certainly more likely to witness short outbursts of explosive action in standup-oriented grappling such as Judo and wrestling. it doesn't make BJJ "relaxed" though : ) in BJJ oftentimes you have to withstand constant gruelling pressure, which is not obvious for an average viewer. the notion that it's a "crossover between Judo and wrestling" makes some sense, and i've used it myself describing BJJ to people who don't have a clue about it, like family members etc. however, it's an inaccurate approximation. eg. the open guard game, demonstrated here by Meregali, doesn't really exist in Judo,, much less in wrestling.

@@memphisgreat548 the gracies fought nobodies, as soon as they faced real competition they got exposed. The only Gracie to do well against legitimate opposition was Roger. Both Leandro and Meregali would make every gracie bar Roger look like absolute amateurs, bjj has passed the gracies by and it shows.

the rules are so fucked up... If you try to pass the guard you already are at clear disavantage : you can't sweep your opponent but he is in good position and can gain points by sweeping you. And that with no previous work for the guard defender since he just has to sit (which has no drawback in points) anyway I'm new to the sport but apart from that, I love it
and yet not everyone pulls guard. why? because it's not without its own downsides. your observation is correct to an extent, but there's a broader picture. for example: you'll be under more physical pressure fighting from the bottom (this sucks especially against big and strong guys - you'd rather be trying to pass their guard than vice versa). you are essentially in a position where you have to "get it right every time" - if you fail to defend the guard pass once, they'll get you in side control or other dominant position. and they can repeat their attempts over and over (they risk getting swept, but this goes both ways - every sweep attempt exposes you too). if you're in a must-win situation (because eg. you're behind on points, and you haven't managed to sweep the guy), it's harder for you to switch gears if you're on the bottom - the top player can force his way into full guard and stall there. it can get very difficult to do anything from there if they're happy just blocking you. in other words, it's easier to squash most of activity when you're on the top. we call it "pouring concrete" in my country : ) and yes, it can be penalized if it gets too obvious to the ref... but sometimes it's still worth it (you can afford taking the penalty). so it's not all sunshine and roses to pull and defend guard
Call De La Riva, Half-Gard, or just call open guard straoght alway without try to do a stand takedown fight its not a good for the sport! Jiu-Jitsu fighters must to go fort to a takedown attempt, before call guard!
Man this isnt judô. Takedown may give you points but also may give your oponent a sweep or even submission. Taking someone down in jiu-jitsu is dangerous both ways

and yet not everyone pulls guard. why? because it's not without its own downsides. your observation is correct to an extent, but there's a broader picture.
for example:
you'll be under more physical pressure fighting from the bottom (this sucks especially against big and strong guys - you'd rather be trying to pass their guard than vice versa).
you are essentially in a position where you have to "get it right every time" - if you fail to defend the guard pass once, they'll get you in side control or other dominant position.
and they can repeat their attempts over and over (they risk getting swept, but this goes both ways - every sweep attempt exposes you too).
if you're in a must-win situation (because eg. you're behind on points, and you haven't managed to sweep the guy), it's harder for you to switch gears if you're on the bottom - the top player can force his way into full guard and stall there. it can get very difficult to do anything from there if they're happy just blocking you. in other words, it's easier to squash most of activity when you're on the top. we call it "pouring concrete" in my country : ) and yes, it can be penalized if it gets too obvious to the ref... but sometimes it's still worth it (you can afford taking the penalty).
so it's not all sunshine and roses to pull and defend guard

Call De La Riva, Half-Gard, or just call open guard straoght alway without try to do a stand takedown fight its not a good for the sport! Jiu-Jitsu fighters must to go fort to a takedown attempt, before call guard!

Takedown may give you points but also may give your oponent a sweep or even submission.
Taking someone down in jiu-jitsu is dangerous both ways
