I saw this in theatres live april 2019 and it brought back so many memories. I first watched Iron Man when I was 5 years old so he and the entire MCU has been a huge part of my life ever since.
In the theater there was this older couple next to me and the lady was asking her husband abunch of questions I didn’t mind at all. When we got to the end of the movie when captain America was dancing to Peggy. She whisper to her husband “ this is our song” 😭it was a great memory from this movie
wonder if people would of payed more attention to tony in endgame if they knew the ending first...his dialogue was amazing in the film...if you actually pay attention
Hopefully he now learned that even a death which isn't permanent can have a huge impact, because while WE know that the characters will most likely be back the characters in the movie don't. And that a "big dead" which hits one of the main characters is something which has to be EARNED, not something to throw in for a cheap shock effect.
I loved that Thor didn't automatically get back into shape for the last battle. That was originally the plan. When he struck lightning, had both weapons, and armored up, he was supposed to be back to fit/sexy Thor. Chris Hemsworth fought to have him stay "fat Thor" because; just because you're having a good day, doesn't mean your depression is fixed. It doesn't work like that in real life, and it shouldn't for the movie either. It was a beautiful touch. I also loved how Thor was the first one to scream out his war cry when Cap sais "Avengers Assemble". Thor's ready. He's worthy, and he's ready to get the job done and kick some ass. And I absolutely loved that for his character.
Honestly, my favorite look for Thor in all of the MCU is in that final battle. I don’t care if gods are suppose to be ripped, I think he looks more like a god than he ever has during that final battle.
I think it was that he fought for fat thor for the whole movie. I think they didn’t originally wrote that thor was gonna be fat, I also doubt they are opposed to the idea. Chris was just the one who gave them the idea and it worked perfectly
It’s the first battle Thor ever fought where he knew for the first time that destiny wasn’t inherently on his side- and that he very well could die. He finds out there is no destiny and nearly destroys him with depression- and then he does something far harder than he ever has before. Stared into the abyss knowing there wasn’t a grand plan, picked up his weapons, overcame his depression, and decided to fight for the right reasons harder than ever before despite the gravity and consequences of his actions now being full force for him. Even in Ragnarök: “we aren’t meant to stop ragnarok, we’re supposed to cause it.” It was a crazy and ballsy plan that would cost his people and himself- and he reassured himself with “it must be destiny.” It’s a barely subtle character narrative for Thor, but I love it.
Personally, I think it would have been much better if Thor was the one who did the snap to bring everyone back instead of Hulk. Thor has lived with guilt for the past five years. Even before Thanos, Thor feels guilty for loosing his Father and Mother. Then Thanos kills another half of his civilization at the beginning of infinity war and kills his best friend too. Right before Thanos snaps his fingers, Thor almost kills him but Thanos is still able to use his infinity gauntlet which would have left Thanos feeling even more guilty. Thor has lost everything and it would be an amazing story arch if he was the one who brought everyone back. This could also lead into him getting his golden arm which he has in the comics. Also, this would leave Hulk open for a rematch with Thanos. Last time Thanos and Hulk fought, Thanos beat Hulk but now that Bruce has combined Hulks strength with his mind he may have been able to overpower Thanos this time. If Thor was the one who used the gauntlet it would have been an amazing story arch for him and would have left the door open for a rematch of Thanos vs Hulk.
@@0nly.mally1 no way. Because even if they manage to make another series like this and do it exactly as well as the MCU, it won't feel fresh because we've already got the MCU once. I don't know if even marvel can top this, the best thing about the MCU was it felt at the same time made up as it went along and planned out meticulously from the first movie. It felt like they were always planting seeds but also like "Fuck it, let's make a movie about a talking raccoon and a tree that only says 3 words!" I think that if anyone tries to replicate Marvel's success, they will end up(and have ended up) focusing too much on the endgame and failing before they get there.
"You're not the guy who lays down on the wire so the other guys can climb over." "Everything special about you came out of a bottle." They proved each other wrong.
I’ll never forget the deafening SILENCE in my opening night theater of 400+ people while Tony was dying. I think everyone held their breath through the whole scene. Something incredible about watching with a large group of people who are just as invested as you are
The reaction in this video was how it was in my theater. Everyone was cheering and fist pumping at the “I Am Iron Man” line. Then suddenly the realization swept through the theater.... and silence.
Every theatre I've been in has ALWAYS been quiet so when I was going to watch FFH I begged my parents that I could watch it at the opening night because I thought that maybe the most hardcore fans would be there so there would have been reactions but no, still silent :(
I’ve always been a Iron Man fan, and I’ve never really liked Captain America. But I’ve never had more respect for a movie character when I saw that Captain America scene.
I LOVE that moment, because for me it perfectly captures why Steve Rogers is special. He's not the strongest, or fastest, or most powerful hero.... not even close, but that doesn't matter. Even when he was a scrawny little kid before the serum, Steve Rogers NEVER stayed down. He'll always keep fighting. Even if its just him with half a shield vs. an entire army of thousands of vicious creatures. He can do this all GOD DAMN day!
Maybe im an outlier, but the scene of Ant-man seeing his grown up daughter never gets enough love. That never fails to bring a tear to my eye, even after seeing it a dozen times. Paul Rudds acting in that one scene alone is so on point!
@@marcopolo9413 All signs point towards it. WandaVision seems to be about her famous mental breakdown which the entire universe got to feel the aftereffects of.
I think Cap's arc is the opposite to Iron man's. Tony was all about change. He changed in every movie he was in, and tried to change the world around him with it. Steve's arc was all about remaining the same. He remained the same in every movie while the world around him kept changing. It was about the temptation to compromise his values in different ways, and Cap's journey towards learning to resist and gaining the strength to resist. Not a typical arc. But in the end, Steve made the play Tony had always wanted him to... and Tony made the play Steve always wanted him to...
I disagree they both changed, but in opposites. Tony Stark starts of as a narcissist, he learns to do well and at the time of Avengers he learns to sacrifice, but he feels responsible. The PTSD, creating Ultron and eventually signing for the sokovia accord. At this point he is less selfish, but still very arrogant. He clashes with Cap in this film cause cap is on the half of his journey too. Cap starts of as selfless, the opposite of Tony. He starts the journey of sacrificing himself. He later learns to doubt, doubt shield, doubt the government, be more indepent and become more selfish with his choices in Civil War. The clash happens and then there is phase 3. Iron Man learns to care even more, become more responsible (teaching spidey). Cap is still there to protect the earth, but his own way, more of an individual. Then endgame happens. Where Tony sacrifices himself. He started of as an egotistical character and ended up altruistic. Cap started of as a selfless hero, but ends his story with a selfish choice going back to peggy and growing old. Tony and Steve start at opposite sides, but also end where the other started.
No joke, literally teared up when Matt said I...am...a Marvel fan. It's been one hell of a journey. Update: Just watched the entire reaction...after seeing Matt completely fanboy during the final battle...yea I'm crying now. Love you guys.
Thor's PTSD was the one of the saddest things to me. I appreciate how they used comedy to get the point across but the way Hemsworth handled it was amazing.
I actually agree, I just wish he had a bit more of a climax in the movie, like a big pay-off for the journey. But it still makes sense thematically, because things like that don't go away in a few hours.
I loved the part with Nebula playing with Tony and her reaction when he told her she'd won. We learn over the movies that Thanos was never supportive of her, never praised her the way he did Gamora, he would even punish her with upgrades when she failed and where she did succeed their was always criticism on how she could have done better. When she won the game, Tony tells her and congratulates her straight away. Doesn't belittle her, doesn't criticize her, just tells her she beat him fair and square and shakes her hand and offers to play again. This is shocking to Nebula, she's never been treated like this before and you get all this just from her flinch when hearing she'd won
I love the recognition of the stages of grief, but I also saw it clearly in one scene. The moment after they get the stones, but before they snap - they're on the dock, and each one reps the 5 stages of grief having lost their sixth member: 1. Thor - denial "you're acting like she's gone, we have the stones to bring her back!" 2. Prof Hulk - anger *throws the bench* 3. Hawkeye - bargaining "you go talk to him!" (Red Skull) 4. Cap - depression *tears* 5. Ironman - acceptance "do we know if she had family?" LOVE that scene! I know peeps are all "Where's Nat's funeral?" and I get that, but I also love this tribute to her membership in the team, that she and her death impacts the team in a different way for each person.
The fact that Thor was so happy that Cap lifted the hammer really added to Thor's character for me. It showed that no matter how much he had been affected by the PTSD, after everything he had lost, Thor had found a kind of brother!
It also showed just how much growth and how much Thor's matured from being that arrogant and war loving version of himself in the beginning cause to me Cap deliberately threw everyone off in Age of Ultron by pretending to not be able to lift Mjolnir cause he didn't wanna hurt Thor's pride and Thor was worried for a moment cause he still wasn't totally changed from Odin casting him off yet at that time Thor truly changed around the time of Ragnarok to me it goes way deeper
Sabih Faraz See I always viewed it as he genuinely couldn’t because Cap had room to grow still to become worthy. More specifically he needed his arc with Bucky to realize he has weaknesses and blind spots in his judgment and that he still has a reason to care and genuinely live in the world today. Only after those things were taken care of was he able to do it.
@@chasewhitehead4525 I get where you're coming from but you need to remember why Dr.Erskine even chose him for the experiment Cap showed no promise in any of the physical tests they put him through while someone like Gilmore Hodge passed all the tests when Colonel Phillips threw the dummy grenade while they were training all the soldiers who were physically superior to Cap ran away but it was Cap who was ready to give his own life to save everyone else right there Cap's honorable heart and his compassion is what makes him as great as he is it's the same reason why Cap dropped his shield after Tony tried to one up him one last time in Civil War his shield and enhanced physique isn't what he's defined by it's like what Tony told Spidey that "If you're nothing without the suit than you shouldn't have it" the only flaws Cap has is his soft spot for Bucky and the a bit of trust issues he had between Winter Soldier and Civil War although that was still justified but all in all Cap never needed to change his entire personality while Tony and Thor were completely different characters early on Tony even when he realized his weapons manufacturing business was doing more harm than good he still maintained his ego stroking by frequently showboating and his ridiculous arrogance when he leaked his home address to the Mandarin which could've ended badly for both him and Pepper and Thor was pretty much just like Hela early on he wasn't fighting for Asgard or the 9 realms he just wanted to satisfy himself and he maintained that arrogance when he was belittling Cap and Tony by calling them Tiny and Petty in the first Avengers film and there's a reason why Thor reacted differently to both times Cap had his hands on Mjolnir in Age of Ultron he looked worried and was a little embarrassed in Endgame he looked like a proud brother and even said "I knew it" and Cap caring about Thor's feelings and not completely lifting Mjolnir again really shows his honorable heart and compassion cause he never completely changed and he just kept on proving why he's worthy
@@sabihfaraz6732 Very well analyzed summary of Cap's story. 7/10 because i got a seizure reading that wall of text without any punctuation. Else it would have been a 10/10
I am 16 years old, and the MCU started when i was 4, so the MCU was pretty much part of me my whole life, it is my childhood. So when I walked into Endgame, it didn't just feel like the end to a whole saga, but an end to my childhood. Seeing Tony die, made me feel like a part of me died because he was with me my whole life, and when Endgame finished, I felt like that is when my whole childhood was over. For me, there will never be anything as amazing as the MCU and I will forever be grateful that I was there to experience it... I love it 3000
I feel you but in a different age block. MCU started right as I graduated and got a job. For me Endgame marked end of my young adulthood and the beginning of middle age.
I can completely relate, I’m 15 and this saga has been part of my entire childhood. I remember watching Iron Man for the first time when I was 5 years old and I cried for weeks when he died in Endgame, I agree that it actually feels like a part of me died.
We should call this series: "How to Train Your Marvel Fan" by Holden Hardman These videos definitely got me through this pandemic. Thanks so much for doing this!

I loved that they passed the Shield on to Falcon. That moment was perfectly done in the movie: Sam: "Thank you. I'll do my best." Steve: "That's why it's yours." Because being Captain America was never about the super soldier serum. It was about a GOOD man, trying his best.
I personally don't like Falcon as a character and that was the one thing in this movie that I hated, having said that your point makes a lot of sense and fits nicely with Steve rogers' character
Diego González agreed. I personally thought Bucky deserved it better cause he was his sidekick turned killer who then redeemed himself. Falcon hasn’t really had much of a story arc and his powers are “pretty much a jet pack” as said by Matt(I think he was the one who said that) but I can see why people thought he was a good fit.
Cap “You’re not the guy to put his life on the line and lay down on the wire” Tony “Anything special about you came out of a bottle what are you worth” Tony dies for everyone Cap held the hammer
the mcu has gotten a lot of mileage out of all the groundwork joss whedon laid between _avengers_ and _age of ultron_ but what groundwork has been laid for phase 4? _endgame_ feels like it's all ice cream and no vegetables. yeah, i like the film on its own terms, but it kinda makes me worry about the future of the mcu. i think it's easily the fourth best avengers film.
@@sirmoonslosthismind youre not wrong about that, but they can lay groundwork for future things in future movies (if that happens). This movie is a climax, why would it lay groundwork? usually that just ends up feeling like squeal baiting at worst and irrelevant at best
sirmoonslosthismind There was nothing to lay the ground work for Iron Man in phase 1. This movie was meant to be a culmination of all the past movies. That’s why it didn’t have a single end credits scene. The ground work is the past characters that will return. Everything else is what the new movies are for. They will build their groundwork for future phases.
@@sirmoonslosthismind ...what? Endgame is the climax of a decade of work. It's not supposed to lay groundwork. The point is to PAY OFF what has been set up across 21 previous films and end an era. Marvel acquiring the X-Men and Fantastic Four from Fox is clearly the future of the MCU.
They could've set something up for the future tho just one credit scene where galactus calls humans puny and crushes a hologram of earth or some shit. That would be insane and you'd love it.
33:00 The 5 stages of grief being represented through different characters within the movie was something that I never realized in the several times I've watched Endgame. Brilliant catch 👏
The shot of cap and Thor standing there looking at pepper cry over tony always gets me. The two of them don’t cry often and seeing them feel so vulnerable is so moving.
The first Avengers scene during the final battle where they are all in a circle is the best scene. Not because of the CGI, but because of the impact it had and how it set up the Avengers as a team.
Max Lazzaro iconic, definitely, but I think most would put the Portals scene over the first Avengers circling around them scene bc Endgame is on such a grand scale. The first Avengers one gave people goosebumps, the Endgame scene makes people cry bro 😭 but i definitely give credit where its due, without the success of the first Avengers we wouldnt have Endgame
When Tony figures out time travel " so quickly" in actuality he had been working on it for years so he never really gave up he just didn't have anything tangible.
@@mattoreo5854 I mean come on it's Tony after all, and when pepper tells him "you can rest now" at the end further proves that point. Tony by trade was an inventor and engineer they are always working on projects and trying to further improve their work.
@@mashedpotatojohnson8720 I think that had more to do with the fact that Tony had been preparing for Thanos ever since the first Avengers. He's been none stop working towards stopping Thanos even after his failure. I also think it's kinda a callback to him being the one who started it all and after everything, he can finally truly rest.
Personally I don't see it that way. I don't think he spent years working on time travel, just a few days days/weeks. That said; everyone keeps saying that he discovered time travel, when it was really the Pyms that discovered it. Tony just figured out how to safely navigate the quantam realm; like the differnce bwtween discovering an ocean and building a raft.
Everything Dibs I’m actually a huge DC fan myself. And, in a non biased way, I gotta say that Endgame is possibly one of the best superhero films I’ve watched in terms of its story, the CGI, the plot twists, etc. It’s basically playing with our feelings in general. Edit: Grammatical Errors
@@dereklow1111 Same I also LOVE DC, and some of them are done much better than many Marvel movies. The thing I still lack with DC and it's characters is the connection, I just don't feel attached and I could care less if they die or recast. Maybe it's because they don't have as many movies, or maybe it's because Marvel just did a better job fleshing out these characters/stories. But the connection and attachment with MANY MCU characters (mainly Tony) just isn't comparable to anything DC has even come close to. By Endgame and even long before you're just so invested in these people and their stories. There's isn't a single franchise to come close to doing that for me. And there's a lot you can nitpick about the MCU, a lot of plot holes and formulaic stories. But man the movie going experience they create with these movies is something I don't think I'll ever come by again, watching Endgame with a crowd was probably some of the most enjoyable 3 hours I've experienced, hundreds of fans all cheering and enjoying it just as much as you are. This is what saddens me about the DCEU, I don't think they're even close giving that kind of experience to people. But maybe one day!
I wanna add the fact that for Thor, he's a great role model for everyone. Even if you're suffering mentally and even if you're overweight as hell, YOU are still a hero
twintails I saw a review of endgame on UA-cam, maybe Chris stuckman, he said it was a great idea by the filmmakers to keep Thor fat throughout the movie. They could’ve easily changed him back to fit Thor, but it was an important message that Thor’s arch went from thanos PTSD to him accepting what happened and using it to motivate him
correction: it's not "you are still a hero". it's "you can still be a hero". heroism is an action. thor deciding to leave his nest, and help out despite being fat and depressed is still heroic. he had to DO something. being fit, being well-built isn't what someone naturally is. it's a consequence of living an active lifestyle, of exercise and effort. being worthy, and being heroic is the same thing. it's not "because you're good enough just the way you are" it's because you act worthy despite the way you are.
@@martinsharrett1872 as a fat person, it might be weird to say that I sort of appreciated that people made fun of Thor in the film, that's life when you're overweight, you better get used to people making "funny" comments about your body, anything else would have been unrealistic.
Love how Matt and Jenna were holding hands towards the end of the movie. Talking about Tony’s arc but what about Matt’s arc in this series? I love how he went from dreading watching these movies to loving them.
The fact that I watched this reaction and still managed to get goosebumps says wonders about the pure emotion I'm sure we all have invested in this series. This film never fails to stun me. Thank you so much Holden, Matt and the rest of the crew for keeping me sane throughout quarantine! Genuinely feel like I've been on a journey with you lot. :)
This movie still makes me cry, no matter how many times I see it. When Cap hears Sam's voice the tears start immediately. For me I believe Infinity War was a better movie intellectually and technically but Endgame is so much more emotional and cathartic that I enjoy it more so it is rated higher.
I cried when Tony looked at Peter’s picture I cried when everyone came out of the portal I cried when Tony hugged Peter I sobbed when Tony died In my theatre, during the portal scene, the crowd cheered and clapped. This movie was the absolute BEST.
This episode is so well done and so long it feels like a documentary, for reals. If I'm at Disney's marketing department I'd contact Holden and ask to use this video on publicity campaigns for the MCU brand, it has everything here to make anyone understand why the MCU journey has been so special.
As someone who’s not super into marvel and their movies, I will always love watching people absolutely adore something. Something so special about people being excited and emotional about something they care about.
More people need to be like you...when I see non marvel fans being disrespctful. I always think about how during the prime of Harry Potter fandom, I wasnt into it but I never went around shitting on it or calling people names coz they followed it. I just stayed away from the hype
@Mark King well yes because that could ruin the experience for others, Not all people want to pay like £25 a ticket to have people shouting and cheering or eating loudly, that's one of the reason cinemas are dying
I always kinda thought he could only slightly move it because he was still holding onto knowing about Winter Soldier killing Tony’s parents and not telling Tony about it yet
Regarding the point on how sci-fi everything it is and being that emotionally invested. Looking back, when Marvel had you ok watching an entire movie with a CGI talking raccoon and a talking tree that says 3 words and you cared, it was over then. By the time you reach Endgame you've subconsciously accepted everything that's happening and everyone without even questioning it. That's probably the biggest feat of this entire saga to me personally. The progression from Iron Man to Endgame makes no sense, yet, it does at the same time.
Royal Flash you must actually like sci-fi if you like the mcu. You should venture more into the genre. There a hell of a lot better sci-fi films than the mcu
Josh Hunt I wouldn’t really classify anything in the MCU as sci-fi. They make no attempt to explain their tech aside from sticking the word “quantum” or “jump” onto things. Tony saying that he wants to find the eigenvalues of an inverted Möbius strip with a spectral decomposition isn’t really scientifically coherent at all, nor is creating a timespace GPS. They feel more like Star Wars to me - fantasy but sometimes in space or with magic.
Honestly, I started collecting comics as a kid in the early 70's (at $.25 and $.35 a pop) and continued through grade school, high school and college. Back then this was frowned upon and I was told I needed to 'grow up'. If anyone back then had told me I'd one day see these characters in movies like these, and that they would affect people around the world they way they have, I'd have said they were crazy. Yet here we are.
AN HOUR LONG?! Just wanted to say thank you for inviting us into your home and giving us something to look forward to every week with this series. Loved every minute of it.
One of my favorite parts of this movie are right when Tony is dying the first one to get to him is Rhodey. They dont say anything, just exchange a look of bitter understanding. Thats real best friend shit right there.
Congratulations on reaching Endgame. This has been a fun journey for all and seeing Matt experience it all has been most entertaining, to say the least. Continued success to all of your channels...(Insert Jenna joke here)
I've never thought I would be this invested in those "my friend watches" episodes, but I am! And seeing Matt freaking out when there was some big moment on the screen was marvelous (no pun intended). I will miss this and wait for the next watchalongs
Imagine having to wait a whole year in-between the 2 films! The energy on the portals scene in the cinema was amazing! I can't see that ever being replicated in another film.
Much like this series, I wasn't sure how to feel when I started watching these reactions. Initially I disagreed with the Star Wars reactions. I thought, "Why am I watching this person's opinion? He's just disliking them out of spite now." But I kept coming back...and slowly, I began to see the value in it. If praise is hard won, then when it is given, it's special. You guys have keyed into a thing that is rare with reaction videos. Authenticity. What a roller coaster! Thank you to everyone involved for giving me something to look forward to, in the midst of this profoundly weird year. Say it Holden. "My videos will be great!"
Chris Hemsworth did amazing job in this movie. Just that look in his eyes, everytime I see him and his look I just wanna cry so much. I can see how he thinks he failed. He failed Avengers, his friends, he failed world when he didnt go for the head. He failed his family and himself. He is a God, he should be strongest and you know. In Infinity War, only he was possibly able to kill Thanos, the others didnt stand a chance. Thats why he failed. Im also really happy that creators gave Nat and Clint such a great moment together. They could simply do that with Steve or Bruce, because her relationship with them was growing in whole series, but they gave this moment to Nat and Clint and im so happy they did it that way, because they were like best friend before all of this and I absolutely love their friendship.
The scene of Thor & his mother gets me every time. The fact he goes for council from his mother & not Odin 👌🏻 His reaction when he realizes he’s still worthy is such great work by Hemsworth.
Yes, Thor had already "said good bye" to his father in Thor Ragnarok, but never had a proper opportunity to do the same with Frigga, so it was good for the pacing and character development to focus on his relationship with his mother in that scene
Ah man, this was the best one so far. So many moments I liked, when everyone went crazy when Cap lifted Mjolnir, or when Matt went crazy when Tony snapped. Going forward, at least Matt is a fan and we can see his reactions when future films come out. Also Holden, you should show Matt the trailers for the Dinsye+ shows and Black Widow, etc. And maybe even the Phase 4 & 5 comic con panels
I think I’m gonna cry😢 when u introduced your self and listed the movies, it reminded me of how far u and everyone on that sofa has come! I can’t wait to watch this!
I want to say I’m very impressed with this group’s ability to have real conversations about their opinions instead of arguments. Being able to not only accept each other’s opinions but also being able to change your opinions. Fantastic open-mindedness that is really lacking in the world today.
I legit teared up when Matt freaked out at “I... am......... Ironman.” Thank you so much for taking us on this journey over the last several months. I truly feel like I have new friends I get to see every Saturday morning.
Some characters still actually died or stayed dead. Iron Man, Heimdall, Black Widow, and Vision all really died from what I remember. Characters like Gamora, Nebula, and Loki technically died but they were replaced by alternate timeline versions of themselves so they don’t really count.
I’m pretty sure cap “technically” died too. I saw him and Peggy dancing as him seeing her in heaven or something symbolic to that since they were both young. Maybe that was just me? Idk, but I like to think cap died on a happy note, experiencing everything life had to offer
My grandpa got us started watching these when Iron Man came out on DVD and we went to see every movie in theater with him after. He passed away recently but one thing he was able to do was see Endgame before his declined and my grandma said the exact words Pepper said to Tony before he went. So whenever I start to really miss him I come back here to this video because he would sit with us and smile because all his grandkids would get hyped the same way you guys did and it sounds cheesy but it reminds me that we got our endgame with him. So I'm happy to have this video to go back and make me feel that again
Damn, seeing when Cap was about to stand up to keep fighting against Thanos’ entire army by himself with a broken shield makes me tear up. It’s so inspiring and that’s why he’s my favorite character.
I was screaming “I KNEW IT” when cap wielded Mjölnir and sure enough Thor said “I knew it” and my dad looked at me and started laughing. He isn’t the biggest marvel fan but he was cheering too because the whole room erupted.
Intro skit was amazing, especially the last scene with Matt. Also loved the lengthy discussion. Kudos to you for also including the Patreon clips - very clever! My rating for this video is the same as my rating for End Game: 10/10
CJ Wurster i’m sorry... what? Listen Endgame is great but it is NOT a perfect movie. But then again the hardcore marvelfans think Doctor Strange is amazing so whatever
I really appreciate how hard Holden has worked to entertain us. I mean look how long this video is😱 we really appreciate you guys Matt, Jenna, Holden, Pastor and Jeremy love y’all 3000. Your hard work will never go unnoticed
Guys...This has been a hell of a journey and I can only say...Thank you for that journey. I have cried watching you guys, I have cheered as if I was there, my girlfriend joined me to watch your videos...she got emotional as well...And although I know this is not the end, and I hope your channel just grows bigger and you make many more videos, my feeling now is the same than when you finish watching a good tv series, or a good saga...This is Holden's saga, this is "My friend watches" saga, you guys got us through the Covid lockdown in such an emotional and yet fun way and once more I can only thank you for that and wish you all the best!
WOW. What A Ride! I have watched this more times than I should have, and yet I still get goosebumps. Amazing amazing work Holden and everybody else involved, this journey has been an absolute blast, with a massive pay off with these last few movies. This may be the end of the Infinity Saga, but not the Holden Saga. While I am very excited for what is to come, you all deserve a break. Let this one sit for a while, let's get you to 100K!!
When my friends came together to get tickets for Endgame we found out that one friend of ours hadn't seen Infinity War or Civil War or a handful of other movies. So we put together a marathon and watched our six favorite MCU movies in a row. 15 hours later we had watched all of Black Widow's parts, Captain America listening to the end song in Winter Soldier, Iron Man's first sacrifice in Avengers I, and almost all the best parts together. Cap/Mjolnir Teased in 2015 “Is he not? *_Are we sure?_* Did he fail? *_Or did he stop?_* “ -Joss Whedon Age Of Ultron Director Confirmed 2019 “He was *_always_* worthy and was being polite in Age of Ultron.” - Kevin Feige Marvel Studios President
The movie itself shows he is not worthy: his grip does not loosen on the handle while the hammer nudges and his hands slide down. The way it’s show tells us 100% he was not worthy. Just because the creators say after the fact he was worthy is just their own personal fan theories, no more or less valid than anyone else’s. But, because how the scene was shot we know he wasn’t worthy.
@@trackyjon-jonandjimmymoop274 They quite literally shows the handle slide through his grip the instance Mjolnir lifts, which is meant to be indicative of his grip being loosened and letting go. It slid threw no one else’s hand, nor did it move or slide on his second “attempt”. He even played it off extremely obvious. The scene was specifically shot *_to_* make that visible. The scene was not shot to show he wasn’t worthy, it was a tease placed there by the Director giving a wink and nod to Cap’s ability to do so in the comics for the last 30+ years. The only decision made after the fact was for Endgame to build off that scene and provide a off to it.
@@Firefly139 but we see his hands don’t loosen and he doesn’t seem to stop pulling until after the hammer stops shifting. Imagine the logistics of trying to pretend not to lift a heavy box no one else can budge, realizing as you begin to lift this unmovable box that you can lift it without letting on that you could lift it easily the entire time. There’s really no way to hide the fact you could lift it. Either Steve was ALMOST worthy and only made it budge because he was holding onto something, or that because he tried to lift it in a competition for personal glory he couldn’t lift it, but he knew he could lift it in a moment of selflessness, like not backing down from Thanos and saving Thor. Who knows. But the way the scene is shot, it is obvious the intention was that Steve was not yet worthy, but to your point it was obvious a fun wink as to his lifting it in the comics.
@@trackyjon-jonandjimmymoop274 Cap does not have normal human reflexes - Comics or MCU. His sense are noted to be heightened to the point that he can see bullets move and dodge them. This was most notably shown briefly in TFA. Also, Thor did catch on - hence the smile being wiped off his face then replaced with concern (which was also built on with his exclamation of “I knew it!” In Endgame). Again, another point showing that the scene was shot the way it was with the intention of “if you know, you know lol”. Whedon’s comments at that years Comic Con confirm it was not meant to be interpreted as he just couldn’t do it since the very question that was asked was “What makes Steve Rogers not worthy” - to which he replied with the above. I know a popular theory is that Cap was hindered due to knowing the fate of the Starks (which has its own issues), but the exact qualifications for worthiness have never been explained. Simply that it is what ever Odin deems so, and he had plenty of his own flaws - like his bloody history and existence of Hela. If worthiness was dictated on an almost basis, the all the Avengers should be able to at least move it somewhat. And not lifting during a competition is the exact reason Cap would have not to do so. He’s humble, not a showoff. At this point Thor believed Mjolnir was what made him special as opposed to later when he realized the power came from himself (hence the very different reactions) and that’s something Cap wouldn’t purposely take away from him.
@@Firefly139 and yet the movie showed him trying and failing to lift the hammer. Thus: he was not yet worthy, or not worthy in that moment. We see him strain and his hands slip as the hammer budges. The way it’s shot, the way the moment is presented to us the audience is clearly that Cap could not lift the hammer despite trying. Just because the screenwriter, director, or pga says he could lift it doesn’t make it so. That’s just their head-canon/fan theory. The only thing that is canon is what is in the movie, and the movie shows he could not lift Mjolnir in that moment. Edit: spelling

Hopefully he now learned that even a death which isn't permanent can have a huge impact, because while WE know that the characters will most likely be back the characters in the movie don't.
YES!!
Even in Ragnarök: “we aren’t meant to stop ragnarok, we’re supposed to cause it.” It was a crazy and ballsy plan that would cost his people and himself- and he reassured himself with “it must be destiny.”
It’s a barely subtle character narrative for Thor, but I love it.
If Thor was the one who used the gauntlet it would have been an amazing story arch for him and would have left the door open for a rematch of Thanos vs Hulk.
the conclusion to Matts arc is as satisfying as Tony's lmfaooooo
Part of the journey is the end and what a hell of a ride of it was.

It felt like they were always planting seeds but also like "Fuck it, let's make a movie about a talking raccoon and a tree that only says 3 words!"

Tony does everything
@Jon Not a narcissist no, but selfish yes
@Jon No, definitely not a bad person, but from Civil War on he only made selfish choices
Tony needed to learn how to be selfless
And steve needed to take a break and finally do something for himself

Thor's PTSD was the one of the saddest things to me. I appreciate how they used comedy to get the point across but the way Hemsworth handled it was amazing.
god, as someone who projects a fuckton onto thor, i spent the whole movie in tears. it hit a little hard.
So many people missed the point and saw him as a throwaway character, but I absolutely LOVE Thor in this film.
Thor was both the funniest and most heartbreaking character in this movie.
As someone with depression, his scene with Frigga meant more to me than anything else in the entire saga. Especially the "I'm still worthy" moment.
I actually agree, I just wish he had a bit more of a climax in the movie, like a big pay-off for the journey. But it still makes sense thematically, because things like that don't go away in a few hours.
"Matt might like this movie."
"Don't."

Glad someone else loves this interaction too!
I wish there was more Tony and Nebula.
Yeah, that and Nebula killing her old self are my favourite parts in the movie.
It's because Gamora never let her win. Tony was a better sibling to Nebula than Gamora was.
@@googleislame Tony didn't run the risk of loosing a limp by losing.
I love the recognition of the stages of grief, but I also saw it clearly in one scene. The moment after they get the stones, but before they snap - they're on the dock, and each one reps the 5 stages of grief having lost their sixth member:
1. Thor - denial "you're acting like she's gone, we have the stones to bring her back!"
2. Prof Hulk - anger *throws the bench*
3. Hawkeye - bargaining "you go talk to him!" (Red Skull)
4. Cap - depression *tears*
5. Ironman - acceptance "do we know if she had family?"

I’m so happy he liked it!
“I’m a marvel fan”
We got him boys.
Never considered that dude, neat reading!

Because being Captain America was never about the super soldier serum. It was about a GOOD man, trying his best.

The first Avengers scene during the final battle where they are all in a circle is the best scene. Not because of the CGI, but because of the impact it had and how it set up the Avengers as a team.

That scene is Marvels version of the arrival of the Rohirrim in LOTR. It's a perfect scene.
When Tony figures out time travel " so quickly" in actuality he had been working on it for years so he never really gave up he just didn't have anything tangible.
YES.... I don't know how nobody realizes this....

I’ll never forget seeing Infinity War and Endgame in theaters. I don’t know if any moviegoing experience will ever be able to beat those two.
Matt likes Endgame
I see that as an absolute win.
Edit: Glad to see the people in the comments are with me on this ;)
Dc fans: (sighing with disappointment)
Everything Dibs I’m actually a huge DC fan myself. And, in a non biased way, I gotta say that Endgame is possibly one of the best superhero films I’ve watched in terms of its story, the CGI, the plot twists, etc. It’s basically playing with our feelings in general.
Edit: Grammatical Errors
Derek Low yup and dc isn’t that bad just half the dceu is trash
@@maguire8852 Agreed
Holden " You're gonna love Endgame. Do you trust me?"
Matt " I do."
Underrated
I loved Endgame without me knowing
That was the best part of it when you love something you never talked about but I’m constantly on Tony now
I wanna add the fact that for Thor, he's a great role model for everyone. Even if you're suffering mentally and even if you're overweight as hell, YOU are still a hero
twintails I saw a review of endgame on UA-cam, maybe Chris stuckman, he said it was a great idea by the filmmakers to keep Thor fat throughout the movie. They could’ve easily changed him back to fit Thor, but it was an important message that Thor’s arch went from thanos PTSD to him accepting what happened and using it to motivate him
To be made fun of and laughed at by everyone both in the movie and audience....
correction: it's not "you are still a hero". it's "you can still be a hero". heroism is an action. thor deciding to leave his nest, and help out despite being fat and depressed is still heroic. he had to DO something. being fit, being well-built isn't what someone naturally is. it's a consequence of living an active lifestyle, of exercise and effort. being worthy, and being heroic is the same thing. it's not "because you're good enough just the way you are" it's because you act worthy despite the way you are.
@@idleeidolon Thanks for the correction
@@martinsharrett1872 as a fat person, it might be weird to say that I sort of appreciated that people made fun of Thor in the film, that's life when you're overweight, you better get used to people making "funny" comments about your body, anything else would have been unrealistic.
Love how Matt and Jenna were holding hands towards the end of the movie. Talking about Tony’s arc but what about Matt’s arc in this series? I love how he went from dreading watching these movies to loving them.
It was all thanks tothe by-gone gym moments
I cried when Tony looked at Peter’s picture
I cried when everyone came out of the portal
I cried when Tony hugged Peter
I sobbed when Tony died
In my theatre, during the portal scene, the crowd cheered and clapped. This movie was the absolute BEST.
Tony’s funeral as well 😭
Black Widow has left the chat
No tears for Black Widow? Only Tony and Peter stuff?
Owen Menning no hate, but I actually cried more at Nat’s death than Tony’s. I was just more attached to her
Toxic1Strike she deserved to be honored at the funeral
Odin said "whoever is worthy should possess the power of Thor" That includes the lightning buddy
This episode is so well done and so long it feels like a documentary, for reals. If I'm at Disney's marketing department I'd contact Holden and ask to use this video on publicity campaigns for the MCU brand, it has everything here to make anyone understand why the MCU journey has been so special.
"Matt may like this one"

Regarding the point on how sci-fi everything it is and being that emotionally invested. Looking back, when Marvel had you ok watching an entire movie with a CGI talking raccoon and a talking tree that says 3 words and you cared, it was over then. By the time you reach Endgame you've subconsciously accepted everything that's happening and everyone without even questioning it.
That's probably the biggest feat of this entire saga to me personally. The progression from Iron Man to Endgame makes no sense, yet, it does at the same time.
I hate sci-fi, but mcu just makes me forget that.
Royal Flash you must actually like sci-fi if you like the mcu. You should venture more into the genre. There a hell of a lot better sci-fi films than the mcu
@@raduandrei3068 in my opinion, if you hate sci fi, you haven't explored real sci fi. things like star trek back to the future aren't sci fi.
Quantum Stop Motions Star Trek is about as science fiction as you can get.
“I am... a marvel fan” . Such goosebumps. Well done!
I cannot watch the Avengers Assemble scene without getting goosebumps all over. It is easily my favorite cinematic moment of the last 20 years.
For me getting goosebumps is not an option. It's a fact.
Nice! Do u still have the collection?
@@thefrenchfryguy9959 Unfortunately no. I sold most of them to pay for college. But I have been able to pick up the collected work over the years.

‘Matt for the whole movie’
AN HOUR LONG?!
Just wanted to say thank you for inviting us into your home and giving us something to look forward to every week with this series. Loved every minute of it.
Thank you Matt, very cool!
When Tony hugs Peter is a great callback to homecoming. Gets me every time.
Continued success to all of your channels...(Insert Jenna joke here)
Mark McKeever well Jenna already is much more successful than these amateur youtubers so they better start catching up
Not gonna lie. When Holden is wearing Cap's helmet and hold the shield, my first impression was that he looks like The Red Guardian with his beard lol
Made the wait so worth it 😭
Much like this series, I wasn't sure how to feel when I started watching these reactions.
Your analogy is beautiful. Like from me.
The fact that she had more lines in this than in any of the other movies is kind of depressing too.
Yes, Thor had already "said good bye" to his father in Thor Ragnarok, but never had a proper opportunity to do the same with Frigga, so it was good for the pacing and character development to focus on his relationship with his mother in that scene
After Chadwick’s death, him walking through the portal really makes you tear up
Ah man, this was the best one so far.
Ant man reuniting with Cassie is one of the most underrated scenes in the MCU I bawled my eyes out
I want to say I’m very impressed with this group’s ability to have real conversations about their opinions instead of arguments. Being able to not only accept each other’s opinions but also being able to change your opinions. Fantastic open-mindedness that is really lacking in the world today.
True bc if my fiends disagree with me on a show I love I get pissed lol
Yeah it just sucks if you disagree from norm they don't understand you and just harp on it.
Don’t forget about Quicksilver and Yondu
But in Matt's standard, Tony will be back as a cameo in Black Widow, and of course theres Wandavision
But yeah Heimdall is most likely dead for real as Idris Elba does not want to portray the role anymore.
Fabulici Cam but black widow is also a prequel plus the cameo is a deleted scene from civil war
I’m pretty sure cap “technically” died too. I saw him and Peggy dancing as him seeing her in heaven or something symbolic to that since they were both young. Maybe that was just me? Idk, but I like to think cap died on a happy note, experiencing everything life had to offer

Then a week later we took up a row and a half of the movie theater opening night, we laughed, we cried, and we lived through it together.
So going through it all again with yall was incredible, it doesn't matter how many times I watch Endgame, seeing it live with new people is fantastic every time.
What an awesome experience!
Cap/Mjolnir Teased in 2015
“Is he not? *_Are we sure?_* Did he fail? *_Or did he stop?_* “
-Joss Whedon
Age Of Ultron Director
Confirmed 2019
“He was *_always_* worthy and was being polite in Age of Ultron.”
- Kevin Feige
Marvel Studios President
