Back in the second Cap movie, when the digitized mind of Zola explained that Hydra hid within Shield, there is a quick shot of a headline about Stark's dad dying as Zola says "accidents happen" implying Hydra had Stark killed. That's what Cap knew. As he said to Tony, he didn't know that it was Bucky specifically that killed Howard
Natasha also gave Steve a KGB file at the end of CA: Winter Soldier that also had information on Bucky's missions, and she dumped all of Shield and Hydra's data on the web.
You say this is out of character for Stark, but it really isn't since Ironman 3. Since he got PTSD, he was obsessed with security. Then in Avengers 2, Wanda gave him that vision of the Avengers dead. That's why he built all those suits. It's why he built Ultron. Then, the mother of the kid at the elevator basically added guilt (as he said about Ultron being his fault). He's being driven by fear and guilt to put controls on the Avengers is how I see it.
Agreed. It's interesting to see how many people can't fully detect the character arc for Tony throughout the movies and that his guilt and fear in this part of the story dominates his actions, not the bravado and arrogance that he was originally known for.
What you're saying is true but as you say many of issues have been brought about by iron man and Ross themselves and the powers that be of the time. The very people that Tony wants the Avengers to be accountable to. Even with Bruce and the Hulk, he says that he wrecked New York, but the reality is Abomination, Ross's creation, did the main damage and Bruce had to stop it from even more destruction. It's those with power that programmed Bucky and Natasha in their various ways. Accountability is needed for the Avengers but not by those who've shown they can't be trusted with it.
@@MrHritzthey can't fully detect it because it wasn't really established well enough. Yes, his guilt and PTSD were highlighted brilliantly in Iron Man 3, but the leap to his perspective in this film wasn't super consistent. The conversation with the Alfre Woodard at the start of this film felt way too contrived and it also doesn't make sense that he would be getting more and more concerned about safety and oversight but still bring a child (Spiderman) into the fight. This movie is good, to be sure, but there's a huge number of contrivances and they were fairly forced.
27:13 - "I'm gonna sit here, so you move the leg." Tom Holland messed up the blocking by not moving his leg off the bed, but Downey stayed in character and kept going and it ended up in the movie because it felt like such a genuine moment for the characters too. (Downey looking off to the side is him looking to the Russo Bros. for whether to continue or not.)
Beautiful. Thank you for bringing up this moment. This goes well with the Stan cameo at the end where Don C. starts improving off of Stan's line and you can distinctly see, then hear RDJ lose it on the Don riff, 'Table for two, Tony Stank, right here.'
Beyond the movies, I miss the theatre experiences of watching PEAK MCU films :) EndGame and especially Infinity War's theatre experience will never be matched 🥰🥰
No, when Vision shoots down War Machine/Rhodie it was not intentional. He didn’t switch sides. As they mentioned later he just missed because he got distracted, probably by his relationship with Wanda.
Well that's not how they explained it in my Gender Studies course. The professor said that since Vision was created by two White cis-hetro males who benefit from and perpetuate the oppressive White patriarchy that he would inherit their racism which would cause him to judge neither Black superhero as having any intrinsic worth. Therefore, shooting one or the other was inconsequential due to systemic racism of the whole Marvel superhero franchise. When asked about Black Panther, the professor (they/them) said that he was a "token" Black superhero. Given how Wakanda built a wall around themselves to keep the poor African tribes surrounding them in ignorance and poverty instead of sharing their wealth in a more equitable fashion, they/them referred to Chakala as the Black Donald Trump. So, clearly an argument can be made that Vision attacked Rhodie due to systemic racism and was likely trying to take out both Black superheroes with one shot. And Vision's remorse was due to him missing one.
I really like how casual Peter catches Bucky’s punch. Up until this point, with the exception of Thor and Hulk, the Super Soldier serum makes the strongest people out there, and Bucky and Steve are the fighting masters; meanwhile, a teen just casually catches Bucky’s punch, then comments on his metal arm…
It really shows how strong Spider-Man actually is. He's far stronger than either The Winter Soldier, Captain America or the Black Panther. He's always holding back in terms of sheer strength. He can generally, on average handle lifting anywhere between 10-25 tons (whereas Thor and Hulk are in the range of 75-125 tons on average), but desperation and adrenaline can boost his strength considerably, putting him up there with the likes of Thor or Hulk's standard strength level. He's been shown in the comics tossing around a 50 ton tank, among other feats of strength. To put it bluntly, Spidey is one of the strongest superheroes, especially street-level superheroes and not Cosmic-level heroes like Captain Marvel in the MCU. If he wanted to, he could take out Iron Man with little trouble (although Peter would hate fighting with "Mr. Stark" or Stank...😋).
Apparently Feige and Russos had to fight the studio for that. Marvel wanted a massive set piece with dozens of winter soldiers having an all-out war with Cap/Tony but Feige wanted this to feel more personal and intimate at the end.
Back in Captain America WinterSoldier, when Zola was explaining to Cap and Natasha about Hydra's presence through the years, he said that when necessary Hydra made sure that accidents would happen and it showed the headline about Tony's parents dying in an accident. Steve knew that Hydra had Tony's parents killed and never told him after that.
One of the most famous billionaires in the world became a very public super hero in a metal suit and helped defeat aliens and later destroyed a city. Tony Stank I think is his name.
One bit of trivia you didn't mention: When Stark was recruiting Peter and they were talking in Peter's room, Tom forgot to move his leg so RDJ could sit down. So he improved with "I'm gonna sit here, so you move the leg." And it totally works with Stark's character.
34:58 No, Vision didn't switch teams. Rhodey asked Vision to target Sam's wings so he wouldn't catch up to him but Sam saw it coming so he flipped away from it. Basically, the laser beams that was supposed to clip Sam's wings accidentally went to Rhodey's arc reactor.
i really like how they built this conflict (the superhero one, not the parents-dying one) over the series. Tony is feeling responsible for creating Ultron and all the death that caused, he wants governmental oversight. Meanwhile Cap just watched SHIELD, a governmental agency he trusted, get corrupted from within and threaten just as much death. At this point Tony distrusts his own individual judgment (for the first time) and Cap distrusts the chain of command. Neither one is obviously wrong, and they each have very good reasons to be on each side.
Not only does it discuss civilian casualties for the greater good, but it's important that it is brought up in relation to Wanda's actions. Because she was on the other side of that. Her parents were killed as casualties of war, for the greater good, and that started her off. Now she became the one causing the casualties. That makes her guilt even greater as she's seen it/felt it from the other side.
I can't believe you cut, "I can do this all day" when you just told Steve to stay down. It was a call back to Steve being beaten up by the bully in The First Avenger, and Bucky recuses him.
To be fair, you wouldn't know it was a spoiler until after the fact. She may've just thought it was general information, instead of what it really is. Yeah for sure, Civil War, Ragnarok and Infinity War is the absolute peak for me. I'm not counting the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy in there though, it's kinda its own thing and highly emotional. Especially Guardians 3, while a bit predictable and quite silly at times, it still made me bawl like no other MCU movie had done before or since.

Next in release order is Doctor Strange, Guardians 2 (you'll love that one), Thor: Ragnarok (really fun) and then Black Panther. Then there's Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame to close out Phase 3. Don't worry though, you'll get to see Peggy Carter again. And yes, Chadwick Bozeman left us far too soon. He WAS T'Challa.
Fun fact. When Tony and Steve are talking and Tony says he'd like to punch him in perfect teeth, it was directed at Chris Evan's father, who is a dentist. The line made his dad laugh. If you want a real car scene, catch the Steve McQueen movie BULLITT. It's considered the best stunt car scenes in the history of cimema. McQueen did the driving himself on the uneven streets of San Francisco. He was a true daredevil and speed demon as he also drove professional race cars. Keep going
One of the comic references I liked is when Peggy’s niece gives her speech it’s actually a Captain America speech word for word, I think he says it to Spider-Man when he’s feeling down 😢
The trivia might have covered this, but if not...Alfre Woodard played the woman who confronted Tony in the hallway after his MIT speech. Woodard worked with Downey beforehand, in the 1993 supernatural comedy "Heart and Souls". Downey also co-starred with Marisa Tomei in another 90s comedy, "Only You". "Civil War" has been my favorite MCU film ever since I first saw it. I feel like the stakes a way higher than usual, since we can usually assume that the heroes will triumph against whatever villain they're facing. Having said that, there are still a few logical issues...in particular, the presence of the huge EMP device in Zemo's hotel room before it is shipped to the power station. I understand that the Russos wanted to show it in Zemo's possession to help establish that he was the one who had it delivered. But if you think about it, there's no reason why Zemo would sneak that huge thing into a hotel room only to then sneak it out in a crate and have the courier service take it from there.
I really dug Daniel Brühl (Zemo) in the movie. Not only was he a good actor but he did kind of have a valid point to it all. You might want to check out a movie called Rush. It has Brühl and Chris Hemsworth in it, which was really solid.
This is my favorite MCU movie, bar none. There are so many dialog points that round out the movie so well. Even Sam's line, "Bird costume?" keeps us aware that there are capable officials outside the Avengers doing their jobs, and places them in the world.
Look at Shanelle with the new haircut! You go girl!! This is one of the best (Along with Winter Soldier in my opinion) of all the Marvel universe movies!!
I was wondering about that. I always thought her hair looks nice, but something stood out in this particular video, but I thought it was just in my head.
And of course, if that's where Steve found out specifically that Bucky had killed Stark's parents, does that mean Natasha knew as well? Or was she just assuming that any files dredged out of KGB/Hydra archives is gonna be bad?
There was a brief clip as well in Winter Soldier when machine-form Zola was talking about how Hydra infiltrated SHIELD, there was a shot of an article about the Starks dying under mysterious circumstances. So even just from that, Cap knew Zola/Hydra had something to do with their deaths, just not that it was Winter Soldier.
First time commenting, but long time fan and watcher. I think it was when she she said if this is your flavor, I was like yeah. That’s why I keep coming back.
This was the ultimate excuse for Role reversal Between Tony and Steve... The perfect soldier and the "you can't have my suit" turning into "The safest hands are our own" vs. "We have to be put in check". Talk about Character development! Chris Pulled some Muscles/Tendons in his arms when he was "Holding the Helicopter".
For me this is one of the best MCU films falling behind only one other... 'Infinity War'. And just like IW this film has amazing pacing, story line, character development, and intense fights we all depend on for a great MCU movie.
It is more than just a building falling on the student. Iron Man created Ultron without any oversight and it resulted in horrific destruction. Additionally, his relationship with Pepper is falling apart due to his obsessive nature with his Iron Man persona. An outside entity capable of producing some checks and balances on his activities has potential benefits for his relationship.
Hey I've noticed you've been reading quite a few spoilers. I really, really want to encourage you NOT to read ANYTHING for InfinityW or Endgame. Trust me, it might spoil it strongly for you and sour your audience quite strongly. Do not do it, trust me, trust me. They are probably the highest regarded movies of the MCU so far. Their stories are highly, HIGHLY dependent on not watching or reading spoilers. We're talking more important and relevant spoilers than Harry Potter Dumbledore and other spoilers, perhaps on the level as Star Wars. Do what you want but I feel like I really needed to tell you. Cheers and thanks for the reaction.
As with the opening of every MARVEL film through phase 4 and two films into phase 5...I was there at the very 1st showing of each. Being a MARVEL fan since I was 9 in 1968, I have wait my entire life for technology to be ready to make these films properly. And all I had to do was.... stay alive to watch it. I am SO THANKFUL.
I absolutely love how Spiderman is presented here. He's thrown into this conflict where all these crazy powerful people are fighting at the top of their game and he's just happy to be there. It really highlights how strong he actually is and that he's actually not really getting challenged here.
shanelle having fun throughout the movie thinking it will be a typical marvel movie where it will end with hugs and kisses, except it doesn't, civil war is one of the darkest stuff written in MCU, even at the end she is happy thinking they won't be fighting for long😆😆
I think it was Corridors channel where they talked with some of the stunt guys that were in this movie. The guy who was Falcons double said he practiced landing in the scene where Rhodes gets shot down so it looked smooth like he had landed before. Instead in the final cut they digitally altered his legs so it looks like he does a weird jog before landing instead.
35:07 Vision was aiming for Falcon, who dodges so the beam clipped War Machine because he was behind Falcon. More beating home the Law of Unintended Consequences.
This one has some really nice emotional motivations and payoffs. It is really awesome writing to see the former team break apart and everyone having valid motivations. Speaking of production, for German locals, this movie has quite a few recognizable Berlin locations. They just say it's also Bucharest, Leipzig and the UN.
I just happen to live in Chadwick’s hometown of Anderson, South Carolina. he’s done true king work here for the kids & communities here. Wakanda Forever, My King 🤴🏿 And Team Cap all day 🫡

23:27 You did good during that shot of Cap's arms. I've seen female reactors literally slide out of their chairs during that shot. And I don't blame them one bit. 😅
We all freaked out when Spider-Man's costume eyes squinted a bit with his introduction. His eyes are very expressive in the comics, and the previous versions of Spider-Man had dead eyes.
There is a video (a really funny one!) explaining where Thor and Banner were during the events of this move, but you can't watch that until the next Thor movie.
I really like this film for the fact that its where you see the sort of end points of the way Tony and Steve's arcs crisscrossed throughout the films. Steve started as the government guy, taking orders and doing what he's told - he even has dialog about this in the first Avengers film. Tony started as the lone man rebuking authority and control. Steve's innocence is lost through the whole Hydra debacle with SHIELD and he becomes more circumspect, whereas Tony obsesses over finding a way to protect the world, stemming from his PSTD from the battle of New York, leading him to do things like the accidental creation of Ultron. You said "this doesn't feel like Tony" when he encourages the Avengers to sign the Sokovia Accords, but his character arc has been piloting him to this position the whole time.
Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel Civil War are the two comic series that essentially got me into comics/superheroes/Marvel so this movie was like the universe peaking. We can all just coast from now on.

Don't forget SPIDERMAN: HOMECOMING
And Captain Marvel
@@liamcarldesign YYYEEESSS!!! SPIDERMAN HOMECOMING!!!!!
...oh and Captain Marvel.
Basically, but since it's still focused on Steve as the main character it definitely belongs as a cap movie
@@dubiumguyand Ant-Man and The Wasp.
Just casually reading spoilers in the trivia section
1991 was when Disney’s animated Beauty & the Beast came out and Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country came out in move theaters.
Keep going
27:16 The line "I'm gonna sit so you move a leg" was ad-libbed because Tom Holland forgot to move his leg for the scene.
"Redwing" was an actual trained hawk that accompanied Sam on missions in the comics. I guess a Stark drone was easier to make the movie with.
Not just trained, Sam has an actual psychic bond with Redwing. Falcon is, at least in the comics, the MCU's first mutant.
"It's the hair-pulling for me" is an all-timer quote. 😂
It's magnificent.
Shanelle has great hair 😊❤
I really dug Daniel Brühl (Zemo) in the movie. Not only was he a good actor but he did kind of have a valid point to it all. You might want to check out a movie called Rush. It has Brühl and Chris Hemsworth in it, which was really solid.
This is my favorite MCU movie, bar none.
There are so many dialog points that round out the movie so well.
Even Sam's line, "Bird costume?" keeps us aware that there are capable officials outside the Avengers doing their jobs, and places them in the world.
Dropped immediately what I was doing to watch!!!!!
The actor playing General Ross unfortunately died in 2022. He was recast and will be played by Harrison Ford in a future MCU movie.
William Hurt. A great actor in his own right.
Spidey makes a joke "ever see that really old movie Empire Strikes Back?" Reactors: "no."
"Chadwick Boseman, just the saddest story alive." That is some unintentional DARK humor
40:12 Natasha handed Cap Bucky's dossier in the last film and said "You might not like what you find"
Never connected that. Thanks for the info.
@@nathanmead9585 I think not only Natasha but also Sam, because Steve definitely showed Sam Bucky's file.
Kevin Feige's last name is pronounced Fie-Gee with a hard G.
Thanks, Shanelle! 🛡
For me this is one of the best MCU films falling behind only one other... 'Infinity War'. And just like IW this film has amazing pacing, story line, character development, and intense fights we all depend on for a great MCU movie.
Wow, Shan! 😍 Rockin' the hair today. I've been waiting for this one because everything goes up a notch from here 🤘🥰
@7:38 That’s pretty much what Robert Downey, Jr. looked like in 1991.
Shanelle is starting get a little over her ski’s in reading some trivia. Oh well… it is what it is.
I hope you'll love Spider-Man: homecoming!
this is the MCU in its golden days! happy you're having fun!
This is one of my favorite Marvel movies, Black Panther is really good also. Hope everyone has an amazing day.
That scene transition to QUEENS is probably my favorite part of the mcu
18:14 Bucky just straight up Legolas'd that motorcycle 😅
As with the opening of every MARVEL film through phase 4 and two films into phase 5...I was there at the very 1st showing of each. Being a MARVEL fan since I was 9 in 1968, I have wait my entire life for technology to be ready to make these films properly. And all I had to do was.... stay alive to watch it. I am SO THANKFUL.
Cap learned Bucky killed the starks thanks to talking to Zola in Captain America:winter soldier
Steve knew the Starks had been killed by Hydra but didn't know it was Bucky
I absolutely love how Spiderman is presented here. He's thrown into this conflict where all these crazy powerful people are fighting at the top of their game and he's just happy to be there. It really highlights how strong he actually is and that he's actually not really getting challenged here.
This is one of my favorite Marvel films.
shanelle having fun throughout the movie thinking it will be a typical marvel movie where it will end with hugs and kisses, except it doesn't, civil war is one of the darkest stuff written in MCU, even at the end she is happy thinking they won't be fighting for long😆😆
46:52 Yes! I call it Avengers Lite, because the heavy hitters (Hulk and Thor) are the only ones not appearing in this film.
One of the best. ❤
@3:36 Shanelle’s deduction ability is on point yet again!
6:27 great way to adapt Red Wing from the comics making it a drone instead of a pet Falcon.
This movie made me miss when movies were about stuff and had scenes and characters and conflict
@4:24 FYI: AR-15s are semiautomatic weapons (much like a 9mm pistol) and are not capable of firing fully automatic without being modified.
Shan, your hair looks great 👍
Pay attention to Dr Strange. There is a flashback in the beginning. ❤
RDJ and Marisa Toma were in a romcom together, too! Only You. It's silly, but charming.
Chris Evens was actually holding onto a fake helicopter, and even though they were super careful, he injured his bicep doing it.
Aunt May & Tony Stark in the early 1990s.
Loved this movie, for so many reasons!
They removed Thor and Hulk because they're overpowered !!
What do you think will happen if Hulk punches Hawkeye ??
35:07 Vision was aiming for Falcon, who dodges so the beam clipped War Machine because he was behind Falcon.
More beating home the Law of Unintended Consequences.
Just saw you on a UA-cam commercial buddy! I thought you were quite natural and crushed it!
Wakanda Forever, My King 🤴🏿
And Team Cap all day 🫡
I really have to say after a day of traveling and exhaustion due to extreme heat in the country I travelled to, it is a bliss to see your friendly face popup on UA-cam with another reaction video 😊
"Now I remember where I know her from: the last movie."
You sound really take notes during movies.
3:43 Ironic statement considering Doctor Strange is next…
Hi Shanelle hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
23:27 You did good during that shot of Cap's arms. I've seen female reactors literally slide out of their chairs during that shot. And I don't blame them one bit. 😅
Been looking forward to you watching this one
Great mish mash of all the movies so far coming together
We all freaked out when Spider-Man's costume eyes squinted a bit with his introduction. His eyes are very expressive in the comics, and the previous versions of Spider-Man had dead eyes.
You know Shanelle’s reactions are legit when she teared up when she found out Spiderman is in this movie
This is my favorite out of the Avenger Marvel movies.
I feel like the impacts in this movie are more intense than the previous ones. The punches and explosions felt more intense to me.
"Does (Aunt May) know that's Iron Man, I bet not." What??? Everyone in the planet knows thats Iron Man.
Red Wing is a reference back to the falcon that Sam Wilson actually flew with in the comics.
You might not see this, but Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr were in a couple romance comedies when they were younger together
