Great discussion. If I am going to live on the water, even for a couple of weeks, I want the Bering model. Space, stability, luxury and quiet. If I want to go out for an afternoon and experience speed or thrills, this is not the boat.
Yacht sizing is confusing because when looking for docking the length is crucial. But, isn’t your master’s (captain’s) license rating on gross tonnage? But, as this video shows it is interior volume that is the usable measurement. Great video guys.🙏🇨🇦👍
Yes, deck licenses are by type (steam/motor, sail, whatever), size (gross tonnage), and route (inland, lakes/bays/sounds, great lakes, near coastal, oceans ... oceans includes all lesser). There is an additional endorsement for "towing vessels". So a mariner can hold two master's licenses, for example: "master, agt*, oceans" and "master, towing vessels". * "any gross tons", ie; unlimited. Then there's a whole salad bowl of lesser licenses, too variegated for concise description.

Love you guys videos. Here is a small issue that may need to be addressed with customers. When looking to dock your boat or go in for a haul out or other services that most marinas are going to charge you BY THE FOOT.....what do you tell the yard? If any boat feels larger than its stated LOA according to the builder and customer why would the number at the end of your boat make a difference. If I could by a boat (money no object) I would wait for the Silent Yacht 120 (hope they figure things out over there), but its beam can make it feel like a 165' monohull. I would feel suspect renaming it a Silent 165. I would like to know your thoughts on this.....
Congrats, my brother always says. however big your boat is, it isn't big enough. Glad it "grew" on its own. Just one more reason that Alexie is the greatest...Lucky you guys...
I love the new Office (Showroom, consultation area, customer planning space) it's a great idea. I have seen something similar in the Bespoke luxury car market. I think you should look into the virtual 3D tours of possible designs, because all the data sets already exist in CAD to do it. One question on your own yacht. Will this have any impact on the areas you can get into or the qualifications requited to operate it?

OK, I have been confused since the beginning? What is the length of this boat?? 75? 82? Meters... feet??? 😐😐 OK, gross tonnage, volume, all very cool for Bering but length and beam mean something. For docking purposes are marinas going to ask for gross tonnage or length and beam? What if I just want to know at any point in time how long my boat is?
Marina is going to ask what is your LOA and then the beam. They charge based on that because that is the space that the Yacht will take up in the marina. It is needed because they need to know if you will fit next to that other yacht.
I find it adorable that both Victoria & Alexie talk so much with their hands. It accentuates everything being said and it seems to be a very European affliction. Also... Victoria is really rocking the horizontal stripes in fine fashion. Congratulations to all.
May I ask what is the red clay looking composition that is put over the steel of the hull to give the steel hull a fiberglass smooth look? I had no idea. Does it ever crack due to flexing? What is long term maintenance like? Thank you!
I can answer this one... That is called "fairing compound". Here is the exact definition of what it is used for from our friends at Fibreglast - "Fairing and filling compounds are designed to repair and shape finished composite parts while retaining as much of the original piece strength as possible. The versatile compounds can be used for filling, adhering, building, shaping and finishing composites and other materials." So...yes, it is body filler for boats used to make the surfaces of a steel yacht smooth like a fiberglass vessel would be. AFAIK the only big issues that might come up with fairing is if there is a big impact with something heavy and hard. I believe that Aleksi said in the episode about "rusty boats" that the failring process, labor and materials, would cost upwards of $1 point something million.
Thank you very, very much for taking the time to explain! I never really gave it much thought. There’s not much in the way of UA-cam…only with smaller boats. I appreciate it, Bill.
Maybe the answer is to refer to the boat models by gross tonnage class instead of by length. It would make it feel more like a super yacht to buyers and maybe other manufacturers of smaller boats would follow suit or at least provide the information.
Forgive me, but the intro to the episode was hilarious! Loved the looks on your faces! Then to hear Alexei explain the "why" of it was fascinating. The volume has always looked absolutely massive to me. My wife and I have a "lottery dream" of a B88. It just looks SO COMFORTABLE! As always, love your videos and the wealth of information you share. 💕
I found value in the GT discussion and the description of the size of your home on the water. Can you also explain Net Tonnage (NT) in some common sense way?
Is it actually possible to create an assymetrical main deck on some of the Berings? Did you consider it or is it technically not a good idea? On the 88 it looks quite doable to me. No stairs leading up on the starboard side.
I would love to have a Bering yacht. I think it should be just like the layout and woodworking and interior of the other 88 ft fiberglass boat that you showed in your other video called, No Regret. I fell in love with that video and that is on my top three my favorite boats. Yes, a Bering boat is number one. Thank you for sharing these videos you two please stay safe.
I get the 75 to 82 and 80 to 88, the explanation justifies it. My question is how does this work with the Certification for a captain and does it impact the insurance topic???? Recently I was listing to a broker On the Yachts for Sale channel (our mutual friend David) and he was listing a rough price range for a Feadship and he, to my surprise was saying its about X amount per Gross Ton. He did not mention the length at all. So based on this and what Alexei was telling us it now makes perfect sense.
For insurance: we just look at length /width overall not the name/title. And we look at value, sailing areas, building materials etc everything plays a role. Hence this should not make any difference in our office.
The name changed, but the size didn't. It's still under 24m LLL and below 200GT, so it's still designated "small vessel in commercial use" and all the same certifications apply.
Great explanation! Much as we'd like to suggest naming it Nauti 82 (especially since 82 is so "woven into" Victoria's life. But, we're going to stick w/NautiTime as the best and most descriptive name for your Bering 82 liveaboard and charter yacht. We really enjoy following both your channels. Great reviews on NautiStyles and exciting to follow the progress of your Bering on NautiGuys. So if Length Overall isn't 82' and the boat is registered as an 82 footer then how will you address Marina Fees, Canal Passages, and any other scenario where length determines the cost?
Helloooo Victoria and Rico! What a great day to wake up to you 3 catz! Now down to " tacks", Her LoA is ???...75, no?. I understand " gimmicks" ( not said in a derogatory way) BUT we live in the real world... LoA, air draft, draft, beam. What is your boat? ( proper lil ship ❤)
I love the benefits of Baring Yachts and the viewpoint given. If I may suggest a change in the brochure, not the name of the yacht, Add to the brochure under the Gross Tons section Living /Entertaining space, Crew Space & Work Space expressed in sq/ft and sq/m. All customers are trying to relate space to their known living conditions on land expressed in "sq/ft and sq/m.". Also, state as a "Note" the typical "X" market Yacht volume for that class in Gross Tonnage and Living /Entertaining space, Crew Space, and work Space expressed in sq/ft and sq/m. This would reflect the TRUE VALUE of a Bering Yacht. Do the math for the customer that communicates the benefit in terms they can relate to. Changing the name of the Yacht may have the opposite effect on a customer; all it would take is a voice of criticism that the buyer did not get the full length. Bering's competitions would be glad to jump on that opportunity..... So don't give it to them.!
Ice seeing the build come together. I just have one question, after Alexi told you guys it wasn’t a 75 anymore, did Rico call the sound guys and say he needed more speaker and amps?
I guess Ill be the dissenting opinion. While its great that your 75 has more volume than the average 75, that number is an agreed upon industry standard which pertains only to overall length and has nothing to do with volume. If you corrupt that number by changing it to whatever your boat "feels" like, then it becomes meaningless. To me its like calling a supercharged 5.0 engine a 5.9, just because it has more horsepower. If 75 sounds inadequate, then call it a 75 Ultra Deluxe or a 75 Big Fatty, but calling a 75 an 82 just seems deceptive to me. JMHO, you guys are awesome!
Even before supercharging a 5.0 you will find it's not accurate. It's a 305 cu in motor that translates to 5.004 liters. So before car engine sizes become meaningless you need to start calling it a a 5.004 and not a 5.0.
LOL 75 to 82 over the phone!! Awesome can i get a new boat that way start out at 6' and go up from there? HEHE 👍👍🤣🤣😂😂 Excellent points on the volume! Very nice discussion! 👍👍
@@NautiGuys I get the marketing point, but not the reality point. The production manufacturers started this size exaggeration back in the 90's. I didn't buy into then and I still don't today.
@@stevemccormick4938 This is not an exaggeration though, this boat if I recall has two hulls or one double-wide hull, and therefore is double the size of a 75' boat. That is why they are saying it doesn't feel like a 75' boat. They took a 100' boat and cut it in half so it is 75 feet but feels more like a 90-foot boat. So catamarans are always about 1.5 times the size of monohulls in living space. You don't get a full double-size boat, but you definitely get a lot more living/sailing space and a much more stable boat.
@carlwest859 The international size is the LOD from ships up to 24m and above it the LWL and 98% of it. Its absolute standart that builders say the LOA. For buyers in that range is important 1. the LOD
Well Alexi gives great explanation. Just remind everyone on Deadliest Catch all of those boats are based on gross tonnage too. How much it can carry. His boats will reflect the industry he came from. Also GT is an international standard of measurement in boats not LOA. Great job Alexi
congratulations Alexei for the new Bering Florida Office.... luv the B120 background on the wall... I think the B120 is my favorite Bering so far... 🥰😍🤩
The perfect cure to 7ftitus! Seriously such a more realistic description of what you are building. What a great explanation from Alexi, as always. He takes the complicated tech speak and translates it into language us mere mortals can understand. Love that man 👍🤩
Why not use the volume measure in the model name instead of the length. Then tell prospective customers to ask competitors they are considering what the GT is of their boat for comparison.
Rico, several years ago a yacht came into the end of our dock and I was going to help him. He said no I’m OK. I have proximity thrusters. In other words, the boat could stay a foot away from the dock with no one helping him the thrusters would sense the dock and forward and reverse the thrusters. I researched it. I never could find anything like that. Did you ever hear of anything like proximity thrusters? Thanks John the plumber.
Very interesting information and it makes more sense to consider the "living space" over just the length of a boat. This should be a measurement that allows for real comparison. Will you incorporate the GT into future videos?
I would like to know if Bering has models of their boats, because i would like to possibly purchase a exact model of your (former 75) 82. That way i can at least say i have a Bering.😅
The beam and mass of this boat is more of a 90 to 100 footer. Marinas charge slip fees according to length. They cant on this B75. When requesting dockage, they will have to request it according to a 90 to 100 foot yacht. Just saying.
Bering is a high profile leader in yacht building because of the wisdom and multidisciplinary expertise that Alexei and his amazing team possess. Industry Standards are tested by their cutting edge technological designs. Bless you guys!!!
I am attempting to understand this as I am just learning about these ships. Was the model designation changed from Bering 75 to Bering 82 to reflect her greater internal volume (GT) in comparison to similar sized yachts? In other words, is her internal volume closer to an 82' vessel rather than a 75' vessel so the designation was changed to reflect that? Maybe I'm overthinking this. Beautiful yacht, by the way. I'm sure she will give you and your guests many thousands of kms of cruising pleasure. I think "Mighty Servant" would be a good name, although I know several Heavy Lift ships have used that name. Solid channel.
Haven't most manufacturers gone by length at waterline and not loa? I know they use to anyways. A 40ft would actually be 44ish more or less depending on the build
GFBISA: Oh wow! When I heard the news, I got goose-bumps for you guys! I guess most people think that length compartmentalises yachts, and Super Yachts,, but this explains it so much better..... The best thing is that you are actually "getting more for your money with a Bering"😁 Right from the outset, when i started following you, and your escapades, it was your enthusiasm that grabbed my attention, and I am not surprized that you went with Bering, because you are a great match... You and Bering are literally "So much more for your money"..... So pleased for you. Take care and be safe out there 😊😊
Mis labeling a boat and lying about the length is just not right. You cannot make up an LOA. If you want to initiate a change in the industry, use the GT as the model number.
Same kind of principle in motorcycle industry, you have a model bike call a 300 refers to engine, but in reality it is 292cc not 300cc but they call it a 300, loa is not subjective, but interior volumes are not always indicative of loa, so instead of changing industry advertising standards to quote interior volumes which to complicated, I agreed giving manufacturers the option to state a longer loa that is more relative to volumes than changing the model description is easier and better for consumers
Well the pure purpose of the overall length name is that you come into the harbor and the harbor master sees: oh, its and 82, so it pays for 82 feet. So calling a ship with 75 overall length a 82 doesnt seem logical. Also the length shows how much material is needed and with which it is compared price wise. So a 82 can have the same price as other 82s, and will be more expensive than a ship called 75. i sure understand why the builder wants to call it bigger, making it a better price per length, as its no longer the length. So basically smart marketing to justify a higher price.
I'm still a little confused. So boats are not sized according to their length? Is this the way it has always been, or is Alexi making up a new rule? I'm 6 feet tall, but have really wide shoulders. Does that mean now I say I'm 7 feet tall?
@@_nopestr Sure, and I've heard of 75 feet too. And all kinds of boat dimensions. I lived on a boat on the Amazon river for over a year. And even after listening to the explanation, I'm not understanding how a 75 foot boat became an 82 foot one.
@@gary.haynes Then you should already understand that this is marketing BS. Bering 75 was actually almost 77 feet in length. 77 and 82 have almost the same dimensions. Bering model names do not directly correspond to the length. Read the specs, don't listen to the BS video.
@@NautiGuys I'm not pretending - I just read the specs. B75's LOA was listed at 76'9" feet (23.44m). 77 is listed at 78'7" (23.95m). 82 is listed at 76'9" (23.44m). 88 is curiously only 85'9" (26.20). Marketing BS, that's all. Just because the boat "feels" bigger, doesn't mean it's name should be misleading. Also, I've merely pointed out the truth, and you're immediately rude. Funny how quick the "nice" facade drops. No wonder people on reputable forums don't like you.
when he first said that you no longer have a 75 I honestly thought that they must have done something and broke your boat lol I felt bad for you for having to wait long and now will have to wait even longer; i was so relieved to hear it was just a rename ;-)
Knowing nothing/very little about ships, I thought the GT was the weight of the water it displaced @ 8.3 #/g. I don't know exact numbers, but 82 foot, 24' beam, 12' deep X 8.33 = 196,721. Or ~98T ?? 8)

All I do know is that when I go buy a boat ; I’m bringing a ruler……
Yea exactly, this whole premise is ridiculous.
So, it is a 75-foot-long model 82?
it's actually 78'
@@NautiGuys ummm Okay
hahaha
I love the benefits of Baring Yachts and the viewpoint given.
If I may suggest a change in the brochure, not the name of the yacht,
Add to the brochure under the Gross Tons section Living /Entertaining space, Crew Space & Work Space expressed in sq/ft and sq/m.
Another great vid! Have fun
Great explanation, from two of my most favorite people.
Wow, thanks!
If I get to Miami I want to come visit… my dream is to work in the industry, and I love you guys and have followed your journey.
Makes so much sense. If you looked at any other 75, there was no comparison.
Bobs your uncle!! 🤣🤪
When is the launch date? Seems like a long time coming.
75 was always the “Model” number, as out LOA is 78’ 😝🤷♀️
It's a total joke and misleading. Plain and simple fraud.
@@NautiGuys Great then call it a 78 then
Even before supercharging a 5.0 you will find it's not accurate. It's a 305 cu in motor that translates to 5.004 liters. So before car engine sizes become meaningless you need to start calling it a a 5.004 and not a 5.0.
@@bettermost would you be happier they named their model with letters? Bering AB, or Bering EX?
Just very cool !
LOL 75 to 82 over the phone!! Awesome can i get a new boat that way start out at 6' and go up from there? HEHE 👍👍🤣🤣😂😂 Excellent points on the volume! Very nice discussion! 👍👍
Binge watching Bering videos now!
When you sign the contract at the marina for dockage what size are you going to state? That's it's size. Don't care how it feels.
the dock always goes by LOA... but you clearly didn't get the point🤷♀️
There is a sizing in boating, the size is one number if your bragging and another if you are paying 🤔
Does the new size cause a new class or different operating license?
@carlwest859 The international size is the LOD from ships up to 24m and above it the LWL and 98% of it. Its absolute standart that builders say the LOA. For buyers in that range is important 1. the LOD
Well Alexi gives great explanation. Just remind everyone on Deadliest Catch all of those boats are based on gross tonnage too. How much it can carry. His boats will reflect the industry he came from. Also GT is an international standard of measurement in boats not LOA. Great job Alexi
Thanks for sharing!!
Kind of, gross tonnage is a measure of interior volume not actual tonnage at all.
congratulations Alexei for the new Bering Florida Office.... luv the B120 background on the wall... I think the B120 is my favorite Bering so far... 🥰😍🤩
Glad you enjoyed!!
SURPRISE!! YOUR A PARENT!!! Was the reaction you guys had. 😂
😆
The perfect cure to 7ftitus! Seriously such a more realistic description of what you are building. What a great explanation from Alexi, as always. He takes the complicated tech speak and translates it into language us mere mortals can understand. Love that man 👍🤩
🥳🥳🥳
Well after he explained it now it makes sense. That’s awesome CONGRATULATIONS 🎉🍾
I wonder which program they use to design the yacht.
Why not use the volume measure in the model name instead of the length. Then tell prospective customers to ask competitors they are considering what the GT is of their boat for comparison.
There is a reason that ships use the volume based Gross Tons instead of length etc. Makes sense to compare apples to apples.
Will you incorporate the GT into future videos?
hmmmm, I loved the 75 number more-- perhaps just adding an XXL after the LWL? ;)
OR-- like they do with 747 radio call signs: "HEAVY" lol
It makes sense to say your boat's bigger than it actually is because then they can charge more!! Absolutely makes sense on the business side.
I totally agree 82 is a much better model number for your HUGE boat!
Bering is a high profile leader in yacht building because of the wisdom and multidisciplinary expertise that Alexei and his amazing team possess. Industry Standards are tested by their cutting edge technological designs. Bless you guys!!!
Thanks for sharing!!
Yes, that is correct
Ok...now I have the perfect name for your boat that is bigger on the inside...The Tardis !!!
Cool! A free upgrade! 😉
Good thing it got bigger…Needed the extra to hold all Vics cuteness 👍🏻🤩🌊🌞
Lol
Haven't most manufacturers gone by length at waterline and not loa? I know they use to anyways. A 40ft would actually be 44ish more or less depending on the build
GFBISA: Oh wow! When I heard the news, I got goose-bumps for you guys! I guess most people think that length compartmentalises yachts, and Super Yachts,, but this explains it so much better..... The best thing is that you are actually "getting more for your money with a Bering"😁
Right from the outset, when i started following you, and your escapades, it was your enthusiasm that grabbed my attention, and I am not surprized that you went with Bering, because you are a great match... You and Bering are literally "So much more for your money"..... So pleased for you. Take care and be safe out there 😊😊
thank you for the kind words!!
Makes perfect sense to me! 😊
🙏
Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Can't wait to see the Yacht in the water.
US TOO!!!
Nice work
Thanks for hanging with us Bob!
Wow, I think that was very good news. You people are very awesome. I Love the video. 😃✨
Thanks for watching!!
@@NautiGuys you are absolutely welcome. In fact I want a hat and a glasses. I’m going to buy one when I get a chance.
Is that a rendering on the wall behind you of the boat? If so, it's beautiful! Love the design!
Yes, it is!
I'm still a little confused. So boats are not sized according to their length? Is this the way it has always been, or is Alexi making up a new rule? I'm 6 feet tall, but have really wide shoulders. Does that mean now I say I'm 7 feet tall?
Have you ever heard of gross tonnage?
@@_nopestr Sure, and I've heard of 75 feet too. And all kinds of boat dimensions. I lived on a boat on the Amazon river for over a year. And even after listening to the explanation, I'm not understanding how a 75 foot boat became an 82 foot one.
@@gary.haynes Then you should already understand that this is marketing BS. Bering 75 was actually almost 77 feet in length. 77 and 82 have almost the same dimensions. Bering model names do not directly correspond to the length. Read the specs, don't listen to the BS video.
It’s almost 78’ if you are going to pretend to know everything
@@NautiGuys I'm not pretending - I just read the specs. B75's LOA was listed at 76'9" feet (23.44m). 77 is listed at 78'7" (23.95m). 82 is listed at 76'9" (23.44m). 88 is curiously only 85'9" (26.20). Marketing BS, that's all. Just because the boat "feels" bigger, doesn't mean it's name should be misleading. Also, I've merely pointed out the truth, and you're immediately rude. Funny how quick the "nice" facade drops. No wonder people on reputable forums don't like you.
Congrats on the 7 feet! 🍻🥂🛳️🏖️🎉
Thank you!!😝😂
when he first said that you no longer have a 75 I honestly thought that they must have done something and broke your boat lol I felt bad for you for having to wait long and now will have to wait even longer; i was so relieved to hear it was just a rename ;-)
🤪🤣🙏🏻💙
Nice. I am happy for you two.
Thank you so much 😀
Big just got bigger! Love it.
😂😝🤷♀️
Thank You.. Fantastic way to start our Saturday.. Boat Talk 😃☕
Our pleasure!
So pleased for h both 😊
Knowing nothing/very little about ships, I thought the GT was the weight of the water it displaced @ 8.3 #/g. I don't know exact numbers, but 82 foot, 24' beam, 12' deep X 8.33 = 196,721. Or ~98T ?? 8)
OMG 😱 WOW ‼️ Now in Miami 🙌🏻🙌🏻🎉 About 6 hours from Jacksonville by car......even less by private jet.👍🏻
Congrats…the adventure continues. ⚓️🐠🛥️🤙❤️
Will there be any negative effect on insurance, docking, docking fees etc. now that its an 82 instead of a 75?
No .. those are still based on actual LOA and gross tonnage specs not the model name
