    JULY & AUGUST UPDATE
So July will be a busy month for me, I'm moving to a new apartment and going abroad for a wedding so need some time for that. So I won't be following as strict a schedule in July and some of August but still aiming for one video a week on Fridays.
Obviously, with the move ill be packing up all my gear and cant record as much, so I'm going to be editing what I already have recorded and releasing that when I can.
However, once I return ill have my own home office to record in and won't have to worry about roommates when recording as much, so hopefully ill be back and better than ever in August, with a few upgrades to my setup ;)
I'll still be active on my other socials too, TikTok is a great place to follow if you want to see more of my thoughts on things I haven't covered on the channel, like Stranger Things and Thor: Love and Thunder. And ill probably be making some content about the new place over there too.

in the middle ages your social rank was pretty set. born a peasant die a peasant. only a king could ennobled a person and that wasn't super common for peasants or serfs. people of rank like the captain were most definitely nobles. but there were ranks among them as well from the royal game keeper to a marquis or a duke. so maybe phoebus is an esquire or a baronet

Lion King was a movie that tackled serious topics, but the topics that Hunchback of Notre Dame tackled were TABOO. Racism, genocide, lust, oppression & religion

Fun fact - during the entire movie, when we see Frollo, it’s always in upwards shots that make him look big and threatening. In Hellfire, we see shots of him from above that make him look small, weak and pathetic.

The thing I love about Esmeralda and Quasi not ending up together is, first of all, the progressive affirmation that a guy and a girl can love each other as friends and not romantically in the slightest, and also because I feel like while Frollo saw Esmeralda as the embodiment of evil, shown by Hellfire, Quasi saw her as the embodiment of good as shown by Heaven’s Light, and ended up kind of idolizing her, which isn’t very healthy, due to him having been deprived of friendship and kindness his whole life. Frollo’s and Quasi’s views on her are direct opposites of each other. Phoebus, however, saw her as a person, and had a much healthier relationship with her, so I’m glad they ended up together and Quasi and Esmeralda could still be close friends.

    • @KoshVader

Yeah, there's a massive power imbalance between them and it makes for an unhealthy relationship.

I agree. Plus, in the original Esmeralda’s 16 and Quasi is 19, but in this she’s supposed to be like 32 while he’s only 20. Between that and the significant difference in life experience, it’s better for them to be good friends.

The way that Frollo was just lusting immensely for Esmeralda and blaming it on her “witchcraft” is a classic from old times' patriarchy.
The hooded figures in “hellfire” are saying “mea culpa, mea maxima culpa” which is a praying for when you ask for forgiveness of sin, it means in latin “through my fault, through my most grievous fault”, he refuses to accept that he’s corrupt and sinful and the hooded figures around him are his obsession with trying to justify it and being holy accusing him of sinning, his own lunacy and madness (that is seen again during his death scene when he sees the devil roaring at him as he falls to his death, bringing him to hell), his own madness was his downfall.
Frollo is definitely one of my favorite villains
Hellfire plays right after Heaven’s Light to contrast the different effect Esmeralda had on Quasimodo and Frollo
Frollo looks tired the next day because it’s implied that he spent the last night... Well... Having some impure thoughts
I also love Esmeralda’s God Help the Outcasts because she “isn’t supposed to be praying because she’s a gipsy” but she’s the most selfless of all the people praying there, while all the Christians at the church are praying for material and personal gain, all she asks for is help to all of the people who are also oppressed and doing even worse than her
She is shown walking in the opposite direction of the other praying people to simbolize that contrast
Also, the parts that make me cry the most are :
“Yes I know I'm just an outcast
    I shouldn't speak to you
Still I see your face and wonder
Were you once an outcast too?”
    (Esmeralda, you have no idea...)
    “God help the outcasts
    Or nobody will”
    And also :
“I thought we all were the Children of God”
Esmeralda is incredible and should honestly be a Disney Princess because she’s an amazing model for young girls

I like how Frollo represents everything wrong with what a person can do with religion and "in the name of God", yet the Archdeacon represents the welcoming, sympathetic and just actions someone can do with it as well. They are both obviously very devout Catholics, yet one is actually a good, honest person and represents the good aspects of faith: The other is Frollo.

I know if they changed anything, we wouldn't have the story of the Hunchback of Notre Dame as we know it, whether in regard to the book, or any version that's been brought to film. In every other version Esmeralda dies. And I think Quasi dies too, though I'm not certain.
But somehow giving an innocent baby to a narcissistic, racist, sadistic, murderer doesn't seem like the best idea. Saddling Frolo with a handicapped child with some serious deformation, for the rest of their lives seems like a very bad idea.
Quasimodo was the original Parkour Expert. 😉
Tom Hulce has an excellent voice.

The Roma tend to adopt at least a facade of the dominant religion of wherever they've settled. In the Middle East, that's Islam. In Europe, it's usually Catholicism or Eastern Orthodoxy. But many have combined the local dominant religion with Hinduism, which is what the Roma were initially. In France, they hold an annual festival to celebrate Kali-Sara, the Hindu goddess assigned to them (a caste of creators) as their patron deity, most likely as an F-U from the Indian government (Kali is a goddess of death and destruction--the antithesis of everything the Roma stood for originally). She sucks, but she's theirs, and they'd rather hold onto a cultural icon that hates them than be forced to adopt a God who loves them as He is misrepresented by people who (quite rebelliously) hate them. Not all Roma adhere to Kali, though. There is a growing movement of evangelical Christianity among the Roma, and the Pentecostal denomination is becoming very popular among Roma in Romania and Spain. Both of these countries are more Catholic than Protestant, so Pentecostals are quite a minority. Sometimes a persecuted one, depending on the location. So they can commiserate with the Roma. Pentecostals are also among the most likely denominations to be involved in human rights advocacy, specifically for religious liberty and freedom of expression.
All that to say that Esmeralda may have been raised in a Catholic society, but she probably believes just as much in the Hindu gods as in any other, which is why her prayer can be interpreted to mean she doesn't know if the Christian God actually exists, or to mean she doesn't know if He's present at that moment.
