BGC, Makati, Cebu, etc have good infrastructures. Fast growing middle class country. The Philippines will surpass Thailand economy by 2028: IMF. It is also forecasted By 2040 or 2050, the Philippines will be the 14th biggest economy in the world. 2nd biggest economy in SE Asia, next to Indonesia. 5th in Asia.
I'm optimistic about this. As if one will look up the history of the Philippines, the country used to be the 2nd country in Asia, economically and militarily, only next to Japan. Read about the present and future economy of the Philippines. Even Elon Musk is investing in this country, he sees the great opportunities and potential. The future seems looking bright.
Liked your video on comparing Thailand to the Philippines I have just moved from Thailand having spent the last 7 years there in a place called Jomtiem. I am currently in Mactan Newtown been here 3 weeks and finding it very different from Thailand cost is higher and the choice of accommodation is limited and more expensive. Need to be here at least 6 months to really get to know if its the place to stay long term, Moving to Cagayan de Oro next month so will reserve my judgment about the Philippines for now. People are really friendly here so far.
@alansearle7249 Mactan Island can be more expensive, am not sure why you would pay extra for the traffic though. Think the prices are higher because it is closer to the airport. Good luck in CDO!
I have spent quite a bit of time in the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, in Vietnam. You can argue this one versus that one all day long. Long. The fact is, they are very different experiences. It's best to rent a place for a while, say a month. If you like it then rent for a year. Even different cities within these countries have a completely different vibe to them. You won't know what you like until you go there and see it for yourself.
Philippines is way friendlier but avoid Dramaguete at all costs . For infrastructure, amenities, and home comforts (and health care),Thailand wins hands down !! Just stay away from the scrubbers 😅
It really depends on personal preference. Thailand is often seen as more developed for tourists, offering a more organized and structured experience, while the Philippines has a more laid-back, community-oriented atmosphere. However, both countries share these traits to some extent-the difference is just where they lean more. If you prefer a more polished, tourist-friendly environment, Thailand might be a good choice. But if you're looking for a simpler, family-oriented experience with a more authentic local vibe and pure unfiltered adventure, the Philippines could be a great place to stay.
MIKE hello i don't know if this is good or bad i thought you might want to know. The philippines in the first half of the year have sold 25 tons of gold. I don't know this is good or bad but it doesn't sound good to me. They have sold the most of any country this year.

IT Park in Cebu v Chiang Mai..... is un fair... there are very different cities and not easily comparable. I have been to both and they are vastly different. Both are nice... for different reasons. The best things about the PH is English is more widely spoken / understood, the Visa is better. Thailand has better infrastructure and food. Good people are in both countries, though many Westerns will feel more comfortable in PH due to Christianity vs Buddhism in Thailand. Healthcare advantage goes to Thailand.. Ask 10 people... you will get 11 opinions.. 🙂
Here is a 12th opinion . . . as an atheist living in Thailand I find it more comfortable living in a Buddhist country. 60 years of Christianity was enough.
@@martypoll There is nothing wrong with the morals of Christianity, what are the morals of Buddhas? Are they different? Have found that democrats are mostly atheists...just saying.
I saw that you were at my old stomping grounds, Ayala Mall in Cebu. What is the journey like to get there from Dumaguete? Is there a roro where you can take your car there? How long is the ferry ride to Cebu? Might make a good video.

We live in the Philippines and visit Bangkok twice a year. Lots of online sellers & great prices in clothing from vendor's. MRT is a nice system and very reasonable. Language would be paramount if living there, though many folks speak English. The only drawback is the extreme humidity compared to the Philippines. I would advise Nov thru Feb to visit. Night markets are a blast. Friendly people. Overall weighing quality of life, the Philippines for us is a better option.
One more emerging trend here, family of foreigners relocating in the Philippines raising the kids with the strong Filipino family values, culture, language, foods, socializing with the locals. Adapting and fitting in well. The educational system is also based in American educational system. Is it the same situation in Thailand?
If You are bord, lonely, or feel alone, You don't enjoy Your own company. And that's when You fall into the trap. And You need to fill the void, by feeling the "needing" of companionship. To me that is killing time, not filling it in time with something better. I enjoy my alone time. Because there is always someone out there that want to squeeze something out of You, and leave You dry. I do enjoy being around people and I don't mind being in a group. As long as I can come and go as I please.
Buddy seems like a good guy to get to know. Great comparison between life in Thailand, versus the Philippines. As a big family that's well traveled and constantly traveling, discussions happen about where would be a good place to go. Japan, Korea, Hong Kong... then the POOR-iegner pipes up with Thailand... 😲 I mentioned the lower costs and so many places to explore... 🤔 Every week, during our Sunday dinners, now someone will offer up another tidbit of information about another destination in Thailand... I guess the family travelers (Us included) might be doing some trips to Thailand in the future?
If you're looking for a comfortable lifestyle similar to the US in terms of infrastructure, Thailand is a great option. It also has a rich, distinct culture. On the other hand, the Philippines offers a mix of Filipino, Western, and other Asian influences, so you get a blend of cultures, but in a less touristy way. If you're after luxury and a more established tourism scene, Thailand might suit you better. However, if you enjoy connecting with locals and immersing yourself in their culture, the Philippines is the place to be. Filipinos are incredibly welcoming, often inviting you into their homes, and sharing with you whatever they have. Each country has its unique charm, and personal preference plays a big role in how people feel about them. The comments section will often reflect this, with fans of either country sharing their love. Ultimately, it’s important not to rely solely on the experiences of others-some people have lived in both countries and may prefer one over the other, but your experience will depend on your own interests and mindset.
I will gladly trade the "prpblem" of not being able to find baking soda/olives at Phillipine's markets vs. the political divisiveness of the United States.
I am sure it is better in Thailand on many fronts, not as good on others. That said, this guy has no credibility. I remember him from past vlogs and interviews. He whines and complains a lot. I am sure there are better sources of information out there and after his last stint, I am surprised he is back since his knickers were in such a twist.
Hmmm.... so complaining about things you don't like means you lack credibility? I'd say the opposite is true! BTW, he actually admitted to his natural inclination to complain about things during the interview. I guess you'd rather watch vloggers who blow smoke up your butt and put a positive spin on potholes, scams, corruption, food poisoning, immigration hassles, incompetence, and major inconveniences. Personally, I get a little sick of clueless vloggers selling a particular location like a used car dealer tries to sell the biggest lemon on the lot. The allure of easy women and cheap living are easily eclipsed by the painful realities of living in a developing nation with a completely different cultural mindset. It's why at least 60% of all expats return to their home countries within 5 years! Your clickbait sunshine vloggers almost NEVER seem to mention this!
@@jasonjames4254 'Hmmm.... so complaining about things you don't like means you lack credibility?' Yup, it sure does. Talking about things, observations, challenges, experiences, even those that are 'negative' with more of a balanced perspective gives you lot's of credibility in my eyes and ears. Don't need smoke blown, or anything else for that matter, by some sunshine peddlers, just a mature, balanced, rational presentation of things. You should be greatly less affected by rice straw burning. This smoke can be far more noxious than wood or straw, but there should be far less of it.
as soon as you arrive in Bangkok you're hit smack in the face with how much better the quality of Thailand is over the Philippines .. simply no contest .. and this coming from a guy who has to stay in the Philippines because ive a relationship here .. but gotta keep things real 💯

There is an agreement among many countries for no double taxation. Thailand and USA have that, so your retirement money is already taxed once and won't be again by Thailand

I suspect there are many parallels between the countries but I think Thailand is a better place to live long term. This is largely due to far better infrastructure and the fact that the country is more unified not spread out over 7,000 islands. Blackouts of electricity and internet service, which generally is far superior, almost never happen. Much better medical services. No food shortages and food prices more stable. Negatives: Fewer people speak English. Thai language is difficult to learn for many foreigners. There are cultural quirks that are hard to understand and / or justify by western standards. This is also true about the Philippines. There is a big but subtle difference in the belief systems. The Philippines has a very thin veneer of Americanism, less than 100 years, layered on top of a slightly thicker veneer of Hispanic colonialism, about 400 years worth. Both of those are on top of a basic and thickly rooted Asian history / background. And all of that has an imported and force fed religion laid on top of it. Thailand has a much more unified cultural history and is mostly Buddhist, giving it a far different attitude to the people about life in general. This is a big deal and not all that obvious until you spend some time in each country.
Thailand is a million times better in most ways. The only parts that are hard is the communication/language barrier as Thai are not very proficient in English. If you take some time to learn simple thai phrases you will get along fine. And always be polite and not aggressive. Their culture frown upon aggressive behaviour. If you like to drink and party, Pattaya or Bangkok is the place to be. If you like to relax, enjoy the beach life, good food and perhaps golf then Cha-Am or Hua Hin are great. I generaly dont recommend Chiang Mai or Chiang Rais the air pollution there is so bad most of the year. Phuket is also a good alternative but the traffic congestion there is pretty bad. Just for reference i lived 2,5 year in Hua Hin, Thailand, and 2 years on Cebu island in Philippines during the last 6 years.
Google Translate is your friend in Thailand because learning the language is an uphill battle. As for English proficiency, it is really different everywhere you go. Bangkok Hospital in Pattaya staff was *extremely good* with English as lots of their patients were clearly Western. In the provinces, I hear it is likely the opposite. That's where the Google Translate is helpful.
There is no comparison between Mexico and the Philippine's. IMO Philippines outshines them all, Thailand, Mexico, vietnam, etc none measure up to life in the Phils

@@mikesphilippineretirement Isn't it the same in Thailand. And I don't think they are all just friendly. Some are ready to offer something for something else.
I think it is the prevalence of multigenerational households that contributes to young Asians being around older adults often and young women just being friendly and respectful. You can’t interpret it the same way when the girls working in Soi 6 Pattaya smile at you but in villages and markets and malls and any normal situation it is just friendliness.

@fenderbend3r As a FilAm, the truth is that we don't need an expat. Most FilAm can able to support the Philippines as a No.2, a high-income minority in the U.S. The Filipino boomers who immigrated to the U.S. as professionals and ex-US military recruited Subic Bay.
I lived in Jomtien for a year before moving to Cambodia. Mostly Russians now.

What's wrong with dumaguete?
@blueybarnes9442 Whats a scrubber?
Poor minded

@@martypoll You make an excellent point. though, IMO, you do not need to be an atheist to benefit from living in Thailand.

I mentioned the lower costs and so many places to explore... 🤔 Every week, during our Sunday dinners, now someone will offer up another tidbit of information about another destination in Thailand... I guess the family travelers (Us included) might be doing some trips to Thailand in the future?
@jerrymarshall2728 Definitely would like to visit Japan, have heard many good things about Japan.
Mike, Thailand is light years ahead of the Philippines except the English language. But I love the Philippines than Thailand.

I worry about the visa and taxing your income

The smoke is a big diference for me. I hope ph doesnt have the smoke . Out in sea should be less burning
You should be greatly less affected by rice straw burning. Depending on where you live, the majority of the smoke you encounter in the Philippines will likely be from your neighbors burning trash in their yards.

What the hell do they mean by this vlogs? Read the comments and all these foreigners kind like yeah Thailand is perfect, it wins, it's number 1. Heck let's see what will happen to this kind of vlogs.
@@andimakan7779 it's called freedom of speech. And it's one of the many reasons why ppl are leaving the u.s.
@andimakan7779 Be real, no one in this video said Thailand was perfect.
@@jsully4064 to be fair, he said read the comments
@@lkabong5529 What is anybody going to do if commenters make comments? Nothing. Everyone has different opinions. Its not Mikes job to make sure all comments are balanced.
one day why not today?
"daddy's money" 🤣 We work remote, old man. It's different.
I've seen it first hand, sonny. Backpackers are living on daddy's money. Maybe yours doesn't have any.

hey guys, today i'm here with my buddy, friend.
hello friend how are you ^^
and your point is?
@@mikesphilippineretirement his name is what many people call others descriptively so it can be used interchangeably
Very original. not.
@@TheBuddyShowWorldwide everyone has a silly moment every now and then 🤷♂ :)
Well, a skin tax would pi$$ me off. No go for me.
you won't even see it coming
Never go back to Philippines been there 6 times last time was it
MORE SHIT AGAIN.
I take it your online PH gf was a scam?
Good for the Philippines and people. Russians are taking over your spot and other disillusioned tourists. Russians are not whiners and they love living simpler and closer to nature. They love fruits and veggies too that's why they love the Philippines aside from.the people and landscapes.
Yes all should leave, then there will be no more slander, clickbait, fights, guns shown on live streams and ebegging, most is facilitated by Google whic, of course, is an american company thats supports it all through youtube.
what are you talking about???
@@mikesphilippineretirementall your click baiting, degrading Philippines with all those blah blah better in Thailand blah blah blah. Just leave us go to Thailand or Vietnam we don't care... you are just making money here thru your vlog geez
@@andimakan7779 Dont have a problem with Mike making money on youtube. In the meantime I am being entertained. And am getting a lot of local knowledge, that I take with a grain of salt, and realize that everyones individual experience will be different.
If you cannot find happiness in the Philippines, the more you cannot find it in Thailand or anywhere else in the world. Almost guaranteed.
You mean other than infrastructure and poverty the Philippines can’t begin to compete with Thailand 🙄

@@dantheman11121 Many foreigners cannot find long-term happiness in Thailand and have moved for good to the Philippines as the people, the language, the culture made them fit in more and happy. Its becoming the trend.
@UserDythfds-nx6ie really the Philippines has horrible infrastructure and horrible poverty we can agree to disagree, but I don’t buy it
@dantheman11121 People who underestimate the Philippines have never lived here. Watch many videos of foreigners living in Thailand vs Philippines, many nationalities prefer Philippines for long-term stay. With this new trend of migration, 1 million Americans anticipated to settle in the Philippines by 2030s
