  • In many ways a descendent of the Lancaster bomber, it was designed by the legendary Roy Chadwick. The Shackleton entered service with RAF Coastal Command in April 1951. It was used for both the Maritime Reconnaissance and Anti-Submarine Warfare. Despite the arrival of the Nimrod, it remained in service in a support role until 1991.
