    It's the 800DE all the way for me. It's just a better motorcycle.

    Suzuki is the pick for me. Suzuki have always had more exciting and better looking machines. Maintenance on Suzuki is second to none so buying it is a no brainer 👍👍

    Donovan certainly goes above and beyond for his reviews. First time seeing a test by pushing a bike up a hill...brilliant! Much appreciated Donovan.

    Interesting about the claimed mass of both bikes. AMCN magazine here in Australia measured the masses of the Honda and Suzuki as 209.6kg and 219.6kg respectively stock wet, and 222.3 and 233.7 respectively accessorised to similar specs. 10 or 11 kg difference to the claimed wet mass difference of 22 kg.

    Over all the Suzuki is the better bike for me. It seems for me Honda tries to make money just with the name Transalp. They pushed the cost (and weight) down with no adjustable suspension, no handguards, no bashplate, no quick shifter, no changeable back frame, less fuel capacity an so on.

      Yup, exactly why I choose the 800DE

    Funny how service intervals don't factor into any of the 2023 tests. Suzuki at 6000km and the Honda at 12000km makes a big difference to ownership costs

      They never mention the service intervals. It’s a real bug bear of mine. Quick enough to say all the other specs and cost though.

      In Europe the Suzuki has also an interval oft 12000 km

      @MrGoat61 6 місяців тому +4

      In New Zealand it's 12000km, your bike will last longer if you service at 6000....

    I think you meant to say the Suzuki puts out 83hp and not 93hp😅. The Honda is definitely the prettier bike of the two to me at least and a lot lighter. Both are great Japanese bikes

    short shifting is where the Suzuki works better. Many riders aren't interested in exploring redline.

      Street riders have no clue about low end torque, they just want to hear an engine scream to feel cool.

    It will be good to see what bike anyone prefers after having to pick it up a few times or having to paddle it through mud. I’d go transalp and possibly cough up for better suspension at a later date. You can replace suspension, it’s harder to shed weight and add power to a bike

    • @jonwoodworker
      @jonwoodworker 6 місяців тому +4

      Have you watched all the video's of people showing that the 800DE is as easy to pick up as the Transalp? I chose the 800DE because it's a far superior motorcycle. You won't have to worry about picking up the Transalp in a mud puddle because it won't get deep enough in the woods to find one. The Transalps suspension and low ground clearance is a joke. It makes its power above 4k, tell me any other ADV motorcycle like it. There isn't because high revving engines are a nightmare off road. ADV motorcycles should have low end torque for crawling through and around obstacles. If you have to buy the Transalp and spend another 3-4k on suspension and a quick shifter, you mind as well go get a KTM.

    • @Steve-motorcycles
      @Steve-motorcycles 6 місяців тому +3

      @@jonwoodworker true, the KTM is a superior bike than both. When you say the Transalp makes All its power above 4k you’re incorrect. Yes it makes its most power above 4k but it has ample low down torque. It’s also incorrect to say the Suzuki is easier to pick up as the Transalp, regardless of what videos you may have seen. If you really want to believe the Suzuki carries all its extra weight lower down and, has more ground clearance than nothing I am going to say will convince you otherwise about it being over 30lb heavier.
      I do happen to think the 800ds is marginally better off road but most of these bikes are going to spend 95% of the time on nothing more than a dirt track. I am glad you feel your Suzuki is the superior bike, it is in some areas. As stock bikes, they have different virtues. But the engine on the Transalp is a peach.

    • @MrGoat61
      @MrGoat61 6 місяців тому +2

      Suzuki has a radiator guard, and a quick-shifter, and holds more fuel. That along with longer and fully adjustable suspension explains the weight difference.

    • @Steve-motorcycles
      @Steve-motorcycles 6 місяців тому +1

      @@MrGoat61 Really. Over 30pounds. 😂 The naked bike versions, the Hornet has a 1.5ltr larger fuel tank and still comes in 25pounds lighter than the GS8S

    • @jeffweier4824
      @jeffweier4824 5 місяців тому +1

      IMHO Transalp looks cheap and built to price with its welded on subframe, shorter travel non adjustable suspension etc. In fact Honda is now so cheap they don't even have a quickshifter as standard. I've looked closely at both and the Suzuki being made in Japan is far better finished than the Honda which like so many of its bikes nowadays are no longer made in Japan.

    Both of them omitting cruise control is pure greed. They want people to spend 5k or more to get it. No wonder why BMW is selling the 750 and 850gs so well.
