- Lyrics-
[Chorus]
Sound system gonna bring me back up
One thing that I can depend on
Try to describe to the limit of my ability:
Its there for a second
Then it's given up what it used to be
Contained in my music somehow more than just sound
This inspiration coming and twisting things around
Because you always know that its gonna have to go
You always know that you'll be back in the cold.
Point of depatrure sublimated in a song
Its always coming to give me that hope for just a second
Then its gone but!
[Chorus]
Static pulse inside of music bringing us escape
Its always temporary changing nothing in its wake
Just a second where were leaving all this shit behind
Just a second but its leaving just this much in mind:
To resist despair that second makes you see
To resist despair because you cant change everything
To resist despair in this world is what it is to be free
[Chorus]
Wake up turn my box on
Bust the shade let the sun in
times getting tougher bout time to start runnin
Box in my hand music by my side
Skanking to the rhythm of the music by my side
Operation Ivy was an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California formed in May 1987. The band was stylistically important as one of the first bands to mix the elements of hardcore punk and ska into a new amalgam called ska punk and was critical to the emergence of Lookout Records and the so-called "East Bay Sound."
This is oeration ivy
Sir, this is Wendy's
@@shaylondhovey lmao
Fuckin a
Ive never heard of "Operation Ivy" but there is a band that matches that description with the name of "Oeration Ivy"
ahh operation ivy, one thing that i can depend on
Good one bro 👌
What's operation ivy?

oeration ivy
They always bring me back up
I was in the Navy when I was introduced to the greatness that is Operation Ivy. One of my friends in my division (skater from California of course) let me borrow his Energy CD. A truly pivotal point in my life. i loved (and still do) every single song. Truly remarkable. I don't even like every single song of my favorite bands :)
They have an earlier "album" called Seedy
Matt Freeman was always a beast on that Precision Bass . Case and point ☝️☝️☝️
ah yes, oeration ivy, my favorite band
I'm such an a-hole when it comes to Eric Wilson's Bass Style to the point that I've spent literally the passed 17 years of my life as a Bassist on his technique and you Sir by far have one of the cleanest Eric Wilson style learned on that track....Nuuuuiiiice!!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Matt freeman the best
I'm pretty sure it's Matt Freeman on bass lol
Yeah it’s not Eric Wilson whatsoever Wilson is a great basis and all but that is Matt Freeman 100% Operation Ivy, Tim Armstrong, Matt Freeman, Jesse Michaels Mello
I’m drawing a blank for the drummer first name not, I love sublime
As equally as operation Ivy promise it’s Freeman
One of my favorite albums of all time! Cranked this on cassette years strait and it doesn't get old!
Just saw them perform this the other day. Absolutely amazing
Love dis album!! So many high school memories!! Not to mention Tim Armstrong ❤
stupidly great song, the lyrics are deep
Sound system gonna bring me back up
Yeah, one thing that I can depend on
Sound system gonna bring me back up
Right, one thing that I can depend on
Try to describe it to the limit of my ability
It's there for a second, then it's giving up what it used to be
Contained in music, somehow more than just sound
This inspiration coming and twisting things around
'Cause you always know that it's gonna have to go
You always know that you'll be back in the cold
Point of departure sublimated in a song
It's always coming to give me that hope for just a second then it's gone
But sound system gonna bring me back up
Right, one thing that I can depend on
Sound system gonna bring me back up, yeah
Yeah, one thing that I can depend on
Static pulse inside of music bringing us escape

This is one of my all time favourite albums. Listening to this in my formative years before Rancid was a thing, damn, this album strings my heart chords.
Pick it up!!! Pick it up!!! Pick it up!!! Pick it up!!!
Sound System!! Sound System!!!
This music still gets me so fucking HYPED!!!!

Best punk album period. I wish I still had it on vinyl.
To resist despair, that second makes you see.
To resist despair, because you can't change everything.
To resist despair in this world is,

what it is,
what it is to be free.
I love oeration ivy, but I feel like all they do is just cover operation ivy
Lol
repeating brilliance is ok with me! :-)
just listened to the green day cover based on your comment -- thanks for pointing me that way -- fun cover - it's cute -- but totally lacks the soul of the original.
Underrated comment
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
they are to good...how does this only have 3k views
now i know this had 3k views 9 years ago :)
jesse is seriously the best lyricist ever. op ivy common rider every song is just so fuckin good lyrically
agreed.
O yea! Those were the days
I used to ha an OP jacket with this album on it and left it at this guys house who I didn't like so I never got it back, still kind of regret it
I have no idea. they should have more but people don't know their shit. This is the artist that made me realize i could be punk rock and still have intelligence, and a purpose other than chaos and uncertainty(although i really know is that i dont know nothing ;) )

Keasbey Nights by Catch 22 is another great ska-punk album, catch 22 got more albums, but the main writer and singer left and formed another band-Streetlight manifesto, kinda like Tim and Matt.

What it was to be in high school in the early 90s
