Arriving on the red eye at Logan in Boston for Freshman year of college in '83...this song was playing low in the background on the plane's audio as I moved through the isle and stepped off to another lifetime.
Had my first trip to California in September 1983, and this was getting airplay there. Returned home to St. Louis to start my second year of college that fall.
I was at school in Boston from 75-79 at Berklee. You're right, it was another lifetime - many of the most amazing and memorable experiences of my life.
80s music are the greatest era considering my age Im still in my 20s but i can feel the joy, the sadness every single lyrics and note was chosen correctly. Well done maestro ❤
I have studied, played and appreciated most forms of contemporary music but had never before heard a song (and album) that captured this level of songwriting, vocals, arranging and production. It was a great discovery in my lifelong passion of music. Here I am 40 years later going to see Sergio at Niagara Falls Canada in October - what a gift.
Don Freeman here. I co-wrote and played keyboards on Rainbows End. We thought we had something special when we recorded it and Michael Sembello’s vocals were second to none. I’ll always be grateful to Sergio for his belief in the song.
Wow Don, thanks for your response. This was always my favourite song of Sergio and top of my musical production mind for all time. Your piano intro sets the mood for a very emotional musical story powerfully enhanced by a dream ensemble and production team!
My fave ballad of his (outside of Please Baby Don't and Timeless, and beyond Brasil '65 and '66). Very melancholic now looking at this photo. All of a sudden, we gaze upon Senhor Sergio.........through the rear view mirror. 😢😶🌫😶🌫😶🌫
Michael Sembello is on lead vocals not his brother Danny. Don Freedman who not only wrote the song, but played keyboards on the tune corrected me. They used Danny’s name due to contract issues with Michael.
A song always loved & cherished by the chord-loving, groove-loving global community of professional & amateur musicians. From the Philippines, a million thanks to you, Serge. ❤ God bless you.

I love this Sergio Mendes music, but my favorites are on Brazil 66. No one does Bossa Nova like Sergio did. It takes real talent to write, arrange and sing this music. This is my culture, and I still embrace it.
I get it, but this music is what got me into Sergio...took a while longer to embrace his main style of Bossa Nova. This is my go to music. YACHT ROCK FOREVER!!!!
Joe Pizzulo is great by himself already, it’s a Great bonus to have Sergio M. Check his other hits. Let’s Give A Little More This Time, Alibis, to name a few 😊 happy listening!

Rest in Peace Sergio. You’ve found the end of the rainbow but showed me the beauty of her colours.

Phantastic! Classical counterpoint - functional bass in pop - GREAT!
