We used to go to the library to print DragonBall pictures to show off at school, then we would see who could draw the pictures without tracing. Our art teacher wondered how we all got so good at drawing.
Dragon ball started as a comedy/adventure manga, but slowly evolved into action/fighting series
Fun fact: in this episode just after the rock- paper- scissors attack Goku in the manga breaks the 4th wall by destroying the actual manga panel itself!

Yamcha's VA is Toru Furuya, same VA as Sabo's, so probably it was for this that he sounded familiar to you.
As a Asian 80s kid in Thailand like me ,Goku has been like a friend since childhood.
We've been watching Dragonball since the late 80s on TV and VHS. And play a lot many DB videogames on famicom, super famicom.
Yamcha has a theme song sung by his voice actor (Tōru Furuya) called 'Wolf Hurricane'. I suggest listening to it after the first arc, It's really good.

The thing with Bulma's hair color is that, depending on which version of the manga you're reading, the early chapters had a mix of full-color, limited-color and black-and-white pages, so color palettes were a bit experimental. Full-color pages for chapter 1 depicted Bulma with blue/cyan hair, but in chapter 3 it was changed to purple/lavender and it stayed that way for the remainder of the manga. The anime decided to use her chapter 1 color for the entire series and every subsequent Dragon Ball media followed suit.
A similar case happens to Goku's gi: The first pages of chapter 1 colored it blue before switching to orange, though B/W pages kept it dark, so the anime decided to stick to blue.
By the way, Yamcha's name comes from Yum Cha which is another name for Dim Sum and Puar is Pu'er Tea (Just like Oolong)
Edit: I'll also add that Shu and Mai are named after a classic Dim Sum dish called Shumai

I feel like we are only just realising the extent of Toriyama's influence in the world of entertainment. Not just anime and manga but video games too; Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, Pokemon, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, etc. His legacy will be felt for decades to come.
Oolong mentions Gyumao which means Ox Demon King, which was changed in the English version to Ox King, can't have the kiddies hearing the word demon now.
Furuya Toru is the voice of Yamucha or Yamcha. He was already well known for his work on Mobile Suit Gundam and apparently didn't even need to audition for the role of Yamcha.
Naoko Watanabe is the voice of Pu'ar/Pu'er, I've seen his name spelled in many different ways.
When Goku hits Yamcha with his Jan-ken, he knocks him into some rocks but in the manga Goku hits him so hard that he breaks the manga panel which is such a great gag.
Even Togashi (the best shonen writer by far) called Toriyama a God 💀

Speaking of sibling influences, I don't think I would have watched as much Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura if it wasn't for my sister. But I low-key liked them anyway...
5:40 Yeah, Sailor Moon along with Dragon Ball got a lot of people in the West into anime. Dragon Ball was the most popular shonen and Sailor Moon the most popular shoujo. Unfortunately, I don't see as many people talking about Sailor Moon as much anymore despite there being a remake that just finished in Japan by the end of last year. Though it's probably one of the few anime that I see merch for everywhere I go at least in my city in the U.S. Maybe one day you should watch it.
Dragon Ball also did a couple of crossovers with One Piece before. He also created another series by the name of Dr. Slump that would often have crossovers with Dragon Ball. One of Toriyama's manga, Sandland recently got an anime adaptation this month on Disney+ and a video game.

Yamcha Voice actor is the same with adult Sabo voice actor. While kid sabo voice actor is same with Naruto voice actor.

In one of the earlier episodes (might be 2 or 3) she goes into more detail about why and the different arguments people made. She's planning to watch it all in Japanese and then re-watch iconic scenes in the dubs of different languages
Also I’d like to add in what the others said - it feels special to you because of nostalgia. As someone who has never seen an episode of DB, it doesn’t make a difference to me either way :)

Yep a lot of Shonen characters take inspiration from Akira Toriyama and Son Goku whether it’s their designs, personality, or appetite. You can definitely see it in Naruto and Luffy.
