Airrazor getting killed in Rise of the Beasts was such a huge disappointment, and also why wasn’t she revived by the energon wave when it revived Bee and fixed Stratosphere?
Narratively, the answer's clear: because the movie presents her as sacrificing herself. Airazor's role in the film is to embody its theme of co-operation, to be the character calling for humans, Autobots, and Maximals to work together, and it's not until she makes the ultimate sacrifice - urging Primal to destroy her, reminding him of the extremes of the Maximals' oath, "no matter the cost" - that they do. It's a choice she makes, and resurrecting her would undercut that.
Off the cuff thought: if Unicron gave dark energon to Scourge, whose spark it controlled, and Scourge corrupted Airazor with dark energon and controlled her, are they both really gone?
@@ChrisMcFeely I agree on the narrative motivation, but looking a it overall, it's still killing off 25% of the Maximals you've just introduced as being active (20% if you count Apelinq). And it feels less like her sacrifice than putting Primal in a position where HE has to commit a mercy killing. And the magical resurrection of the pointlessly killed Bumblebee particularly undesells the intent. Having Airrazor pull a "phoenix rising" moment courtesy of the Maximal#s energon deposits might have worked too.
I actually thought Scourge shot her with a corruption device that contains cosmic rust. I thought that was a great nod and a well researched idea that the animators implemented.
...well dang, you're right! Never occurred to me! That's got be on purpose, right? The use of the name "Airazor" is SO random otherwise, but when you think of it as being chosen as one half of a pair of the most famous TF birds of prey...
It still bothers me that Airazor wasn't even mourned by the characters. Elena immediately moves onto business despite watching her die, and the most anyone says about her after the fact is that she had half the access code. Jazz's half-hearted eulogy from the 2007 movie is more than what Airazor got.
In my school vr game, she played a major role in the game as she took on nemesis prime alone but was put into stasis lock by him, but then reformatted into a new demonic alt mode
Airazor is one of my favorite female bots in transformers and even though we didn't see her robot mode in rotb it would be awesome to see airazor in future tv shows and video games
I always liked how airazor was the sister to Cheetor and it was a shame that she didn't get a transmetal form in the cartoon. Next to Primal, Cheetor and Tigatron. Airazor is my other favorite Maximal.

Not being a beast wars fan I'd not heard of this one at all. Vaguely thought it may be a predacon but mainly clicked to hear your pronunciation of 'airazor'. You did not disappoint. Good times
Wait, Tigerhawk is technically Airazor and Tigatron’s child? Add that to my list of “underused concepts that really need to be explored more in new TF fiction”. Also, if I had a nickel for every time Airazor was turned evil by Unicron, I’d have two nickels. It isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that its happened twice. Same goes for having references to obscure parts of Armada in ROTB (Airazor being corrupted and Unicron’s balls).
A fun fact from the show being that Dinobot and Airazor never met onscreen. Because of the haphazard Beast Wars was initially aired in the UK. The first time I saw Airazor was in Season 2. Suffice to say, she didn't hang around in that season. But at least she and Tigatron got an upgrade into Tigerhawk. Albeit a brief upgrade.
There's a single shot in the 1st season episode "Before the Storm" where we see Airazor and Dinobot, side by side, while Tigatron informs the Maximals about the aliens coming to Earth, and I was shocked by their size diference. I don't recall any other moment with them.
Man, Tigerhawk always bothered me even when I was younger and fairly unaware of the stuff that went on behind the scenes. They clearly had more in mind with the character. Like, it was so sudden and it didn't help they went out really weak too.
@@darrenheideman2546That or he’s an unrelated bot who fell to Earth with amnesia and be found by the pair to be taken under their wings. Perhaps a knight of Cybertron that was originally on a mission to hunt down the Four Horsemen of Unicron but something happened to cause him his memory loss?
Because that was the Airazor corrupted by Unicorn in the appearance mentioned in the video, and in those times ANYONE that was a bad guy regardless of real alliance got marketed as a Decepticon.
Great Vid as always, Chris! You know, I was always one of the few transformers fans who cursed the whole "Truk, not monkey" movement in the early beastwars years that forced hasboro's hands into making the transmetal line to appease them. I really enjoyed the season 1 aspects of the show most. Their beastmodes held legit purpose and function, and their designs looked more natural to the style of the show. Once transmetals became a thing, the cartoony factor of the show skyrocketed. At least Airrazor avoided that fate, but it was a trade off. And a bad one at that. She didn't do the transmetal upgrade, sure, but she was quickly forgotten about and essentially killed off mid season 2. And that's a shame. Her character was so generic during season 1, it would've been nice if seasons 2 and 3 fleshed it out more and give her some of the love the other characters got. She definitely got the shorter end of the stick compared to everyone else there. At least Tigatron was around a lot longer than she was. He even got a couple of spotlight moments and episodes.
honestly i loved airrazor as a kid and the fact she dies in the new movie... made my inner child cry for a week when i first found out ... which for context was over a week ago
@@christianbrown2471 I just don’t see why they would. The only issue brought about by her death was that she had half the access code, and that issue lasted all of a few second because Elena had that half. And I’m just not seeing a scenario from any of the sequels that would require her to be resurrected. (Plus, these are Transformers movies, where anyone who isn’t Optimus, Bumblebee, or Megatron stays dead when they die)
Yeah I don't get why some toys were given Transmetal forms but they didn't get upgraded in the show, were either kept in their original form or taken out of the show in one way or another.
Making and rigging new 3D models was expensive. The earth-born models hadn't been used as long as the guys that were there from ep 1, so they might have wanted to get their money's worth. Plus there was a limit on how many characters they could feasibly keep around at once, about seven per side with occasional guests like Ravage and Transmutate. If they were cycling new ones in, they'd want to make room by getting rid of characters that had too much overlap with either the new one or other ones that were already around. For instance, I think Terrorsaur and Scorponok were picked to die because Inferno fills the role of flier (Terrorsaur) and loyalist and heavy hitter (Scorponok), while Scorponok's other thing, using long distance drones, made more sense for Tarantulas to pick up. Condensing roles like that made room for more variety in the Predacon ranks in the form of Quickstrike and Rampage. Also, the Predacon ranks were really arachnid-focused, with two spiders and a scorpion. Adding a scorpion hybrid and not ditching Scorponok would mean more than half the preds were arachnids. I have no explanation for why Rhinox didn't get upgraded or killed, though. The need to focus on new toys meant he just hardly got anything to do by the end, just permanently on base guarding and general science duty.
great video, loved it. I am a bit curious as to what the next basics topic will be, as there isn't any new Transformers media (movies, television and the like) being released in the immediate future. Perhaps another female autobot like Chromia or Firestar, more 1984 characters such as Sunstreaker or Bluestreak, or even more of the cassette transformers like the Autobots Ramhorn, Eject or Rewind, or the Decepticons Rumble and Frenzy.
They're pre-programmed to be Maximals or Predacons; all the protoforms featured in the BW show were Maximal ones, which required the Predacons to overwrite their Maximal programming with Predacon "shell programs" to make them baddies.
I think their Sparks do have “preprogrammed” personalities. According to the Transmetal 2 Prowl bio, he is reincarnated from the original Prowl. I think the same is true for all Sparks, they just don’t remember their past lives when they are reborn.

@@clevertroodon6396damn you scourge!
It just hit me, both of Fractures torpedo mini-cons from RID 2015 use to be birds of prey transformers in a past life.
...well dang, you're right! Never occurred to me! That's got be on purpose, right? The use of the name "Airazor" is SO random otherwise, but when you think of it as being chosen as one half of a pair of the most famous TF birds of prey...
@ChrisMcFeely yet they made airazor a combat bot in transformers earthwars
It still bothers me that Airazor wasn't even mourned by the characters. Elena immediately moves onto business despite watching her die, and the most anyone says about her after the fact is that she had half the access code. Jazz's half-hearted eulogy from the 2007 movie is more than what Airazor got.
Maybe they did, but it was brief at best because they need to stop her sacrifice from being in vain
Tigerhawk is the offspring of Tigatron and Airazor. Change my mind.
We dedidate this video to the memory of Pauline Newstone (1943-2023) who passed away around that time.
Airazor might be my favorite Maximal. Her appearance in the Kingdom series All but convinced me to give Beast Wars a chance.😊
In my school vr game, she played a major role in the game as she took on nemesis prime alone but was put into stasis lock by him, but then reformatted into a new demonic alt mode
I haven't seen rotb, but spoilers don't bother me. That was a significant spoiler. Thank you. Just makes me want to see it even more.
Airazor is one of my favorite female bots in transformers and even though we didn't see her robot mode in rotb it would be awesome to see airazor in future tv shows and video games
Can you make a video about the concept of Transformers eating food/drinking beverages (like Energex)?
My favorite moment for air razor in rotb was when they fridged her and didn't even think about resurrecting hwr6
Dear god, Manga Arrazor is adorable.
Another great video!
I'd love a video talking about the basics on Shokaract
I always liked how airazor was the sister to Cheetor and it was a shame that she didn't get a transmetal form in the cartoon.
Next to Primal, Cheetor and Tigatron. Airazor is my other favorite Maximal.
Michelle Yoah did a magnificent job voicing Airazor in the Rise of the Beasts.
Rest in peace pauline newstone aka the voice of airazor
You've left a big impact on this franchise and showed us that even robots can have romance no matter what
And I'm sure somewhere your flying high like the falcon airazor is
So rest well.
Not being a beast wars fan I'd not heard of this one at all. Vaguely thought it may be a predacon but mainly clicked to hear your pronunciation of 'airazor'. You did not disappoint.
Good times
Airazor and Tigatron forever!
I just bought her toy from the ROTB toyline and I am obsessed. She’s one of my favourite
also her ROTB version basically makes her Fire Rodan from the Godzilla franchise with her fire-breathing powers, lol.
For obscure characters month you should do a basics video on Apelinq, that would be nice.
Kingdom Airazor is such a great toy. Easily one of the best of that line
This Is Amazing Dude
I have a question do you already made a video about Scorge and Battletrap?
It be to early for this. Still excited to watch it though.
Great Stuff, as always!
Man, Tigerhawk always bothered me even when I was younger and fairly unaware of the stuff that went on behind the scenes. They clearly had more in mind with the character. Like, it was so sudden and it didn't help they went out really weak too.
Hopefully the character can make a return one day, perhaps in an angle where he's the child of Tigatron and Airazor.
@@rayvenkman2087 Boundless possibilities.
Does anyone know why Armada Airazor had a Decepticon symbol molded onto her? Did the original Beast Wars Transmetal figure have it also?
The original version did not have that.
Alway enjoyed how IDW used certain characters in their comics
Fantastic video review!👍👍👍The best Air Razor I like is her trans metal form!
honestly i loved airrazor as a kid and the fact she dies in the new movie... made my inner child cry for a week when i first found out ... which for context was over a week ago
As I said before DO. THE. TECHNORGANICS!!!!!!
Had the transmetal version as a kid
They realese a new Tigerhawk figure btw, anyway Airazor is one of favorite characters 🦅🔥 nice video
Great video digging deep into Airazor's history. Would he great to see her again in the next movie....and maybe Tigatron too??
No offense, but I doubt Airazor will be coming back anytime soon.
@@thomasgrove2724 though that in the BW cartoon too and behold she was brought back. Just saying.
@@thomasgrove2724 all true just holding out hope is all.
@@christianbrown2471 Well I can't blame you for hoping. And hey if she does come back I won't complain
Big fan of AR. Air Razor fo life!
Its neat that the voice actress for Airazor was also the snake character from Mummies Alive cartoon.
A very good review! She is one of my favorite maximals next to rhinox!
Please do a basics video on the decepticon infernocus
I regret donating my Transmetal Airazor. That was a cool toy.
One of my all time favorites!!!! BW Airazor!
Hope Airazor gets revived. If bumblebee can get revived so can she.
I think primal crushed her spark
I have the kingdom one! But Rise of the beasts on looks very good!!
AIrazor was amazing in the movie 🦅🦅🦅💚💚💚🤩🤩🤩🌟🌟🌟
0:46 fall-con?
I thought it was always fell-con...punch!!!
I always seen her and rhinox as a surrogate father figure. And mother to tigerhawk.
@@manjackson2772 prob the only reason they didn't phase rhinox out is becuz they still needed his skills off screen ig
It's official!!! Airazor is the first trans-gender Maximal in the Beast Wars animated series.
My Queen!
Remember our home primal no matter the cause🦅
Nice a new video on transformers rise of the beast
great video, loved it.
We're getting a new Tigertron figure in the Transformers line next year. Will never replace the original figure for me. But I am happy!
R.I.P. Pauline Newstone, The Voice Actress of Airazor from Beast Wars
Do protoforms have any sort of personality or allegiances before they are awakened/activated?
They're pre-programmed to be Maximals or Predacons; all the protoforms featured in the BW show were Maximal ones, which required the Predacons to overwrite their Maximal programming with Predacon "shell programs" to make them baddies.
I think their Sparks do have “preprogrammed” personalities. According to the Transmetal 2 Prowl bio, he is reincarnated from the original Prowl. I think the same is true for all Sparks, they just don’t remember their past lives when they are reborn.
Please do Razorclaw soon!

Dunno if i like Tigertron & Airazor as a couple better or Black Arachnia flirting hard for Airazor in the Netflix series?❤😂
