RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

Wow, how amazing to hear that out of all the millions of songs out there, Scott and I picked the same one! What a mind meld! I loved Nick’s reaction when he recognized Peter Gabriel - like the clouds parted! They also traded lyrics, but their voices were so similar it’s hard to tell. And Larry Klein was more than her bass player at this time - he was her husband! Wonderful reaction!
Yes, it's a bit cruel to someone who recognizes the voice, but can't zoom in on it, haha. Just when you hear Peter, it melts into Joni :)
Very underrated Album. This and "Nightride Home"are my favourites from Joni
It’s amazing how similar their respective voices are. A wonderful duet. Now whenever I hear him sing, I get Joni vibes. Thanks!
JK and Scott thanks for choosing my girl! She can always give me goose bumps
Brilliant JK! I've been waiting for that for sometime now !! So pleased you've listened to it dear Nick and Lex 🎉one of my all time favourite songs!
Thank you Michael! A little under the radar but one of her best.
On the same album, there are guest vocals from Tom Petty, Billy Idol and Wendy & Lisa. The hard-hitting The Beat Of Black Wings is one of my favourites from it, along with The Reoccurring Dream which starts bright and jolly before taking a dark turn.
And Willie Nelson on "Cool Water"
Yes, it was a fun album, esp if you were a pop&rock nerd who loved to dig through the liner notes. :)
Thanks again for reacting to this album. All other reactors seem to think Joni disappeared after the 70s, which is clearly not the case. I still feel that "Tea Leaf Prophecy" is one of my favourites of Joni, and that says something with this musical goddess.
I just looked up the story behind this. Joni's husband Larry Klein was recording bass for Peter Gabriel but didn't want the tag for it so he offered them a place to stay. She became inspired to write at his home and thus this duet. Sweet.
The drummer is also unmistakeable, Manu Katche, who worked with Peter Gabriel for many years and after So, he became the drummer that everyone wanted to work with. I think he plays on this whole album.
By the way, there are so many great tracks on this album that are worth checking out,
Lakota, Beat of Black Wings, the Tea Leaf Prophecy, and pretty much any track from thus wondeful album
Manu Katche, on percussion, he appears on so many PG projects .. Plus with Sting, Robbie Robertson, Tears for Fears, Simple Minds, etc.
Larry Kline and Joni Mitchell were married for 12 years and in that time he played bass on and produced some of her albums. Winning a Grammy for producing, Turbulent Indigo, in 1996 vocal pop album, I think 🤔. Don’t quote me. Yes I looked it up. He won 4 Grammys 2 with Joni Mitchell the one above and Both Sides Now in 2021.
Scott, I still can’t get over that we chose the same song! What are the odds???!
That’s 2 times now I wonder if there will be a third 😂😂😂
Joni Mitchell, a musical, lyrical, Goddess. "The Beat of Black Wings", also from this album, is such a great song too.
Peter Gabriel's vocals a wonderful, set against and woven in with Joni's are marvellous.
Larry Klein was married to Joni.
A wonderful suprise for my walk with Toby here in Portugal. This was one of the albums i used to put on between the lunch rush and the dinner sitting at the restaurant in Ottawa I managed. Apptly named Café Bohemian. Thankd for the memories once again.
Check out the official video with Joni and Peter it's beautiful, there is a definite chemistry there. This was during the height of Peter's break out "So" era.
😂😂😂 thanks JK I get a 2 for one. This is the 2nd time this has happened with us. We both requested Steely Dan’s Throw Back the Little Ones a while back and I had given them an alternate choice of Walter Becker , how funny/ cool / ironic. I imagine we both had similar thoughts about them reacting to this part because of their relationship and how they ended up in Colorado. This one’s been on the back burner for a while so glad they finally got to hear it. Too much fun. Of course it was a great reaction from Nick and Lex, and it’s funny how the guest vocalist played out. I recently had a marathon with Robbie Robertson‘s song Fallen Angel that Peter Gabriel sings in and I mentioned to Nick to try to guess who it was and he also thought it was Sting. Which is not a bad guess at all by any measure. Good times. Walter is still with us in spirit and on your TShirt.
I am flabbergasted! I think we should request Twin Sons of Different Mothers by Dan Fogelberg - cause that’s how it feels!
Ha ha it’s really funny, but it all results in good music and a great reaction from NicknLex.
JK and Scott, on the same wavelength! It's just dawned on me - Captain James Kirk, 'beam me up Scotty'.
I think this is Joni's best album from the 80's. My particularly favourite track is her version of the country standard 'Cool Water', featuring a great collaboration with Willie Nelson. There is so much Joni Mitchell music to visit still, so much more to enjoy and be moved by, especially The Hissing Of Summer Lawns. Hint, hint for the monthly album poll all the Dan members!
Funny you should say that, Richard. Stay tuned …
I love me a drink of cool water on a hissing summer lawn.
The following is delivered in my best Scottish accent.
The engines can’t take no more Captain will have to play more Joni, and get fresh antimatter in the nacelles right away.
😅😅@@scottanderson8420
It's only logical, gentlemen.
Yes, Larry Klein and Joni were married at that time, and Larry also took the photos used for that album cover and several promo's. Joni was using Peter's studio for this song, and spontaneously came up with the idea to invite him to join in, and the idea to have their voices intermix within the lyrics as a couple that could truly finish each others' sentences etc. :D
Joni is always a great way to start the day. Thanks
Underrated album and track, for sure. I feel like her '80s output gets overlooked, but it all deserves a serious listen, even if it sounds "dated" due to whatever "technology" was used. Her voice and lyricism outweighs all that stuff, in my opinionated opinion. I hope someone out there requests her _How Do You Stop_ and Seal's _If I Could_ , for reasons that will become obvious to any listener.
Thanks for another great reaction, you two!
Joni was set to work with Sting & The Police for her Wild Things Run Fast album (1982), but she met Klein and they got married. She doesn't always come up with lyrics first, she told many stories of songs where music came first. Her 80's output is often considered as weak, but i think some of the songs on Wild Things and Chalk Mark are amazing. The drum machines on Dog Eat Dog haven't aged well (not unusual), but she fully came back into her own with Night Ride Home (1991) and Turbulent Indigo (1994).
I agree with you about the drum machine. Yet, Dog Eat Dog was still a great album. Not one of Joni's best, but still better than most other albums. "Tax Free" is still one of the most biting songs I've heard on TV preachers.
People say it's so 80s as if this is derogatory. Her early folk style sounds like the late 60s. The songs reflect the current style. Yet, thanks to her writing, they are still timeless.
@@pcoleman1971 I remember seeing her do a live version of The Three Great Stimulants on tv with Andy Summers on guitar, all these songs would have benefited by being performed live and recorded.
@@benoitdesmarais2948 Thanks for the recommendation. I just listened to it. You're right, it is much better than the studio version. What a band! Joni Mitchell, Andy Summers, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Omar Hakim, and Larry Klein. Amazing!
By the way... built and trucked a set from Niagara. On The Lake in Canada to Teuride in the late 80s for a one man show with David Carridine so Colorado has a special place in my heart
Thanks for getting Joni on your channel. I appreciate your posts very much. But sadly, concerning Spotify, that company has announced a program where artists who have less than a certain number of plays will basically (and this isn't what they call it) confiscate royalties which would be paid to them and give them to the top sellers.
I was 14 and a huge Gabriel fan when this was released. I had listened a bit to Joni before this, but this was really when I started to check out her stuff more.
Btw, this song, in my mind, very much lives in the same universe as Gabriel's duet with Robbie Robertson ("Fallen Angel") from the year before.
(Maybe I should point out that I still am a huge Gabriel fan, in case anyone wonders...)
Great reaction. A song both bright and haunting. Now time to listen to SNOWED IN AT WHEELER ST. by Kate Bush also with a guest singer of great renown.
Larry Klein is Joni's ex husband. You should check out the video for this song. Infused with Joni's art.
This sounds like Fleetwood Mac. It's so different from any of Joni's songs I've heard. A little low-key for her.
Great song reaction. Check out the beautiful video for this song, which was directed by the unmistakable Anton Corbijn.
Please keep exploring joni, so much more that came after blue ❤❤❤
Nick and Lex have reacted to the entire album Court and Spark, if you have access to Patreon. And other reactions to individual songs on UA-cam.
