Wow, this is totally like the road I do when I go to my in-laws. The distance is very similar but we have a lot of charging stations along the way in Quebec. Our difference is we can’t make it much more than an hour before someone has to stop to pee so I’m trying to plug in each time. It’s frustrating that I never drop that low to see the higher speeds, but it seems to work for us, then to stop a little longer at the end so that we don’t arrive empty. At the in-laws, we only have a regular plug and no level two option. But I wouldn’t mind knowing what you are using for that because I might try to pick one up and invent something myself out in the barn where there is bigger outlet. Thanks for the vid.

I enjoyed that, thank you. And my small town, Bellows Falls in Vermont, does just what you were thinking.

Nice video! You're right about the other car plugging in slowing your charge down. If you look at the charger screen, you'll see that it says 125kW Shared.

Stop 4 times instead of 3, charge to 70% instead of 100% - overall you will stop for less time as your charge rate will be faster.

@@goddom loved the video only problem I have is that there’s seem to be any Kia niro ev near at all. Closes is 4 hours away but there’s several Kona evs around

Hi! Thanks for the video. I'm curious to know, what is the portable L2 charger you were using at your in-laws house ?

I was using a variation of this one. I think it has a few different plug configurations available. Its a bit cheaper than when I bought it!

Hello Matthew. Thank you for the video. What app do you use to plan your trip? I have a 2020 Kia Niro EV Platnum Edition. I use ABRP for all my trips. I drive mostly 65 or 70 MPH. My trip to Florida was about 458 miles and it was pretty good all the way. ABRP was pretty accurate in what I would get to each charger with. I never charge up to 100% except when I left for the initial trip. But overall it was a good experience. My longest charge time was 36 minutes but I was only charging up to 80% each time. I had about 3 charge stop over 451 miles.

Hey! Thanks! I didn't use an app - I didn't even know about it but I am checking it out now! Thanks!
For my trip I just checked google maps and planned the route based on distance. To evaluate the accuracy of the cars range, I then did them maths of what the car said my range was at the start compared to what it was when I got to the station.
As I am looking at my trip to Chattanooga, it has an extra stop in there compared to what I was planning on doing. The overall time I am estimating is the same.... I might try my planned trip and compare it to ABRP.

Do you still recommend niro ev for long road trips? Thanks.

@@UA-camuseritis Well I think they’re better vehicle suited for charging. After my few road trip, then renting a Tesla for a road trip, it’s hard to recommend it. The Tesla trip was flawless and shorter charge time. The locations were better suited for family and options to eat. The Niro is great for around town but not necessarily for long road trip. While it can do it, you will spend a lager time on charging.

@d7mysterio7 Your answer is very helpful. I see tesla Supercharger w everywhere (3 miles from my place vs 16 mile for fast ccs electrify america location). And 60ish kwh charging is a bit slow on Niro.

@@UA-camuseritis You’re absolutely correct. It’s a great car otherwise. I still own it after 3 years. You can get 250 miles easily in the Summer time with the AC running. Winter you can get about 220 miles. Thanks for the question. I appreciate you.

Yes! I have been busy so haven't posted more vids. Car is a great commuter, and I have taken it on longer trips since. Gone to Chattanooga from Detroit area. Not super great for long distanct trips, but for medium distance (400-500 miles one way) not bad.

Hello! Yes I do! I have about 76,000 miles on mine and the car is great. Good commuter, and also good for medium distant trips.
