Seeing both Ryu and Akuma’s moveset side by side is really interesting, you can see some kickboxing influence on Ryu when seeing him next to Akuma and his purely Karate (with a few fantasy fighting techniques obviously) moveset
Shotokan karate, kickboxing is someone like Ed in sfv
@@Jason-ip6wqRyu isn’t purely shotokan, he has a lot of close range power moves that mostly resemble kyokushin and a few uechi ryu style kicks, his target combo being one of them.
His closed knuckle stance also resembles kick boxing compared to Akuma’s open palm style as is traditional to karate, he also doesn’t chamber some of his kicks. He’s mostly karate, with some kickboxing influence.
Oh and forgot how much Gouki uses palm strikes, that is very traditional karate

I new guy in sf and i heard akuma is a powerful glass cannon,but here i see third shota simmular guy (i know is lore and story sane but his dive kicks and shadow ruah is not a good and save option for value) who do a sota charester moveset but have a normal damage (not high just normal) but lowwer hp in a game ... And why i need pay for this if i have 2 better characters than him?(not about her skins and design , about his gamplay and originality on gameplay)
Once people get used to his combos I think he will be very powerful. His damage potential is very high and he’s fun to play too.
Ryu = Kinda basic, big damage
Ken = Great corner carry, a bit more technical but his damage isn't as good as Ryu
Akuma = Low health, great utility because he pretty much has a move for any situation. His damage seems to be very good too.
His offense is just really good, his pressure is good and has a lot of ways to take back his turn, he gets a safe jump from most conversions and can convert of a lot of his moves. His neutral is amazing, he has good pokes and air fireball seems pretty hard to deal with if spaced properly. and his corner carry is pretty good, overall an incredibly strong character.

This is, what, the first time they're playing Akuma and Ryu against each other? I'd at least wait and see if they use them consistently before I start whining about them dropping their previous mains.

He has insane walk speed, great fireballs and buttons, good damage and oki, amazing anti airs. I really think he is top tier. His walk speed is what sets him apart from the other shotos.
