There might be more similarities than you think! Scripture says that the ark of the old covenant was specified by God and safely carried the stone tablets of the 10 commandments. The glory cloud of the Lord overshadowed it wherever it went. Likewise, Mary was selected by God and overshadowed by the Holy Spirit. She carried in her womb not the written word of God, but the Divine Word of God, Jesus Christ, in the incarnate Second Person of the Holy Trinity. Jesus "IS" the new covenant and Mary is His ark. In the ark of the old covenant, God came to His people with a spiritual presence, but in Mary, who is the ark of the new covenant, God comes to dwell with his people not only spiritually but physically. This is why one of Mary's titles (as in the Litany of Loreto) is "Ark of the Covenant," referring to the new covenant of the New Testament.
