Being a person who was diagnosed with PKU, I can tell you all watching this video that the struggle is real, and it is very hard to recover from high PHE levels when you have permanent PKU.
People who were diagnosed with 'Classical' PKU have it worse than the rest of us, three of my six sisters have classical and it is a constant battle for them. Two of those three sisters also went through H**L when they decided that they wanted children, there was a constant fear that if they ate something if that portion of food, no matter how small or low in protein, would cause their PHE levels to spike and cause harm to their unborn children.
Everything went well though, and now I have three nieces and three nephews, all born from my sisters who have the same (albiet slightly different) PKU that I was born with.

This was very moving. My husband has PKU & I am so grateful for Dr. Waisman's dedication to rescuing people with PKU from the effects of the disorder. His diet plan & mandatory newborn testing saved my husband & many other people. We have 5 children (none with PKU) who are blessed with a relatively healthy daddy because of Dr. Waisman's work. I am so glad I got the opportunity to see this wonderful doctor on video & hear his words. Thank you for posting this video!

My girlfriends brother has PKU, he was born in the meditarian and sadly went undiagnosed for quite some time. However, it was caught. He is now on a special diet. Loves life, loves his family and dog. He has a job and is a larger than life character!

This doctor was not guaranteed success in advance, but he (and that terrific mom ) tried anyway.
    That means a lot!
