Admired how Riewoldt chose his words here. The honesty about his losses which would've been so heart breaking, actually having a critical evaluation of the game before just chucking out comments like "yep dogs wanted it more, yep" and giving examples backed up by footage. Onyaaa
Didnt care much for him as a player but I do like him in the media and as a commentator.

@@victoryline5689 no. It's just that if the Victorians want to count their past state league flags then flags from other state leagues should also be considered fair game.
We're fine if you only want to count AFL flags in the AFL tally. But if you want to count this AFL/VFL BS then you can count everyones

Still can't believe how many got sucked into the Bulldog's poor final month. They were a top-2 side all year, and a far better side than Port for the duration of the season. That result was hardly a shock, Port were never going to be good enough

Yes Port got spanked by the top teams all year.
Yep Bulldogs we’re almost unstoppable all year, they had a bad couple of weeks which for some reason everyone wrote them off but Port were far from being a contender all year so it was surprising everyone had been talking them up as favourites
All year they were somewhat better.
All year port had about 6-7 top players out
Port just avoided an almighty Shellacking by the Mighty Dees.

You can say a lot about Port, but the big issue was prep as Johnathon says. Hinckley's mantra all year was just this " we play our game, it's different yes but we play our game"
I think Hinkley needed to think about alternatives and actually direct them clearly and confidently.
It was an overnight by Hinkley.
He would have prepared, but he didn't have HIS OWN plan B .. plan B might have been to give instruction to players. For example only, and there are others, we all know that Charlie Dixon virtually tries to mark everything. But his form tells you that he can't and is often out of position.. But he is a physical player, and he should be punching the ball towards goals with one hand .. able crumbers do the rest .. this is better use of Dixon and is the Port style. Hinkley then tells the crumbers to be aware of this too b4 the game. Nothing like this occurred. So you have to think that Hinkley just doesn't contemplate, or can't contemplate critical prep things .
And to me this reinforces, that a coach must not, repeat, must not rely on the absolute bs set ups today where there are asst coaches. I think asst coaches make a mess of things.. you need a strong coach, certainly in finals, to take over the coaching thinking and strategies. Hinkley was not in charge in the sense that he should have told Charlie what to do .. hey, this is a preliminary final. Yes it's good to have faith in players, but you just DONT LET THE ASST COACHES TAKE OVER.. YOU NEVER EVER DO THAT . DO YOU THINK A COACH LIKE PAGAN , a real development coach, one of the best, but very very strong wouldn't be totally in charge, of course he would. But Hinkley is no Pagan. He needed to be. This was Hinkley's weak link.. OMG ..and as much as I like Boak , Dixon, Gray , I think it's too much for them to front up in 2022, it's tough isn't it.
With all the advantages of a home final. The next step for a Grand Final was difficult for the Power. For the second season in a row.
No other club drinks its own bathwater quite like Port Adelaide. It's been a continuous thing under Hinkley.

Mentally didn’t switch on from the start, questions need to be asked why. When port switches off they usually get steamrolled. It’s like they expected to win without doing the work.

I reckon the bloke is a bit of a spud; but, when he came on it was easy to see the value of his hardness. I think coaches sometimes underestimate these characters and how they unsettle other teams. Caddy is this bloke for Richmond and he would be a first pick every week if it was up to me.
No one wants to address the elephant in the room ….the talent is there therefore the coach has to go … keeping it real
I haven't seen a team's performance absolutely shredded like Port Adelaide's for a long time
. I mean it's warranted, they were pathetic, but hearing normally taboo footy words like 'weak', 'choke' and 'complete failure' being used is extraordinary.
Port have always been a finals whipping boy
Look back a few weeks to Port and Geelong and you will see a team that was totally ripped apart and much worse than this game
never rated port all year.. except for the last 4 or 5 weeks.. they improved slightly..Gelong r in a similar boat.. good average team.. but too many old players.. not enough explosiveness or raw hunger .. either team were never gunna end up in the GF for mine..
Cats got smashed but they didn't play badly. Melbourne were just absolutely excellent. For Port, it was not the same situation...

Success comes from adversary. Bulldogs had plenty of that and it makes one fight harder. Plus they just created a positive, self believing culture.
Port were the 5th best team all year, personally I think they over achieved at the end. Port had been showing glimpses of this kind of thing all year so I don’t know if it was all set up for them to win the flag. For me the 2 best teams this year are in the Grand Final as they should be. If port want to take the next step they need an assistant that has finals experience to help Ken as I don’t think he knows how to lift the team for finals footy. Ken can coach, build a team and help youngsters learn but I’m not sure he knows finals football to well. I would love to see him win a flag with Port but he needs a decent assistant as I don’t believe he has one at the moment
The AFL have tried to set the competition up so that everyone gets a premier ship over 100years, and it will happen dude's..

Hinkley is overrated nothing but a country coach at best with race dogs on the weekend. 9 years of excuses
Russell Ebert sacked after fails to win SF in 1987, lost 1984 GF as captain coach.
John Cahill sacked at end of 1998 after another 6 SANFL flags and only 2 years in AFL missed finals by % in 1997.
Mark Williams forced to resign mid 2010, a premiership coach.
Matthew Primus sacked / resigns late in 2012, two dismal years with not standard AFL resources at his disposal.
Ken Hinkley after 2 up years, then has had 5 yo-yo years for 1 finals loss, then an up year.
One of these is not like the others. Why?

Yep Riewoldt really shouldn’t have an opinion on how to win grand finals.
Wasn't that they were not prepared. They were. Port are a soft outside running team. They rely on 1 person to win the ball while everyone peels off for soft outside posessions. Once you hunt the ball and deny that first possession its all over the for them. The second thing you do, if they do get teh ball, is just run to defense, as they will always go forward and never sideways even if players are free. So dogs just flood back instantly when Port had it, and get the turn over at half back where their wall is, then they waltz the length of the ground for a goal.
A over rated team who could only beat undermanned sides,when playing teams that were close to full strength always lost.
Hey Port you should stop living in the past glory of the Port Magpies which you forfeited when joining the AFL & instead of complaining about your jail bar jumper, maybe you should focus on getting into a grand final let alone winning one. Since you've joined the AFL you've only won 1 flag & in the SANFL you haven't won since 1999! If you want bragging rights, win a flag! Time for humility & some humble pie 🥧

Port were too comfortable, too soft, too poorly organised and badly prepared. On the other hand the doggies were the exact opposite, they were on heat and will be too good for the Dees.

Like Brisbane, Port have been exposed as pretenders yet again. 2 seasons with the premiership cup served up on a silver platter to them and they choked yet again. Dixon built like Tarzan but plays like Jane, DUDSma too busy trying to be a tik tok sensation with his showboating instead of being a half decent player. Hartlett fills his shorts under pressure. Embarrassing performance from a rabble club. They should have played some tarps in that side - would have offered more effort than the 22 spuds who played.

I just wonder if Kane Cornes will put the same amount of effort into pointing out each Port player personally for their efforts on Saturday night the same as he did with Treloar during the week & the Bulldogs in general this past month. IF he does, he will need to leave SEN and make his own radio station because you could bang on about some of those pathetic efforts from Port for months!
