You marked all but one of these as 5 or greater, even when you said those models weren't great and would probably never be taken. If a 5/10 is something that will never be taken, then I can't help but wonder what a 1/10 counts as on your scale? 1-5 is much easier to assign meaning to, unless there's decent justification for having the additional dynamic range. (5 - Amazing, game winning, 4 - Incredibly strong, 3 - Good unit, average output, 2 - Below average performance, not worth the points but has unique scenarios to be good, 1 - Don't bring, too expensive, doesn't perform).
If I had to speculate, Id say Auspex is trying to score them not just somewhat relative to each other but the 40k range as a whole. A 6 out of 10 might preform somewhat better in its roll than a 5 out of 10, but somewhat better is only going to go far when you factor in the player and weight of dice. I appreciate this video so much! I got into Warhammer about a month ago and I love Necrons so I have been collecting them. It is so helpful to have a video like this give a quick rundown on every unit.
I would like to mention that since convergence of dominion has the vehicle keyword, they can benefit from big guns never tire and fire into melee. They're still not great, but they aren't invalidated by a squad of guardsmen touching into them.
@@TheInsanityOfTheToilet they can also soak up mortals from smite and such. They're not terrible, they just don't do anything other than be wounds stuck in your deployment zone and a nasty surprise when the opponent actually reads the statline on the guns.
One negative Id like to add to the flayed ones is their $ cost. Right now it's $50 dollars for 5 of the newer flayed ones. A full squad of 20 is $200. Id rather bring something else.

@@severdislike4222 It should still be open topped frankly. Compare it to raiders, and it's over priced as fuck and deserves a little bit of something. If it was open topped, it would be a really great competitive unit
I was also thinking of a 5/10 for the Reanimator as well.. If they would just bring their Healing Beam back to 9" or remove the monster keyword or give them a 5++. I think you slightly underscored Spyders. For 75 Points they can put out 12 shoots at 18", gain the Deny the Witch once in a unit of three which reduces the other two to 70 each one can bring back a Scarab base to a different Scarab unit. They also get to +1 to hit and the unit gains +1d3 attacks with a specific Technomancer loadout. I agree with the Flayed ones, however you didnt mention their two Strats Fight again and -1 to Hit. Disagree with the Triarch Stalker. He's an 8 maybe more. The Heat Ray has 2 profiles that no other model can get in the Codex. Multi Melta or Heavy Flamer with 2d6 auto hits. He can use the flamer in close combat and attack with his limbs that are damage 3 plus has Quantum shielding and a +1 to hit Strat and QS Strat. Out of all the Ctan I prefer the the middle of the road Void Dragon and the bargain Trancendent C'Tan. Not big on any of of the Destroyer Cults... Scarabs are fantastic, but I hate using them. Wraiths are my favorite unit. I prefer them over Skorptek Destroyers because of the speed and the Technomancer buffs and the Inv save. I agree on Tomb Blades, but I prefer Tesla surprisingly with 4 shots each and are great at Overwatching Orikan can give the Praetorian a 5++ and charge reroll... Annihilation Barges are good at tying up units with QS and still firing all its guns. Doomstalkers are best taken in a list with 2-3 to make up for the swingy attacks, but it is blast. Also, it always fires at Full Blast when using its Sentinal Construct rule. All the Lokusts are 15-20 points over cost. 2 Heavies equal 1 Doomstalker... Doom scythe is the same exact aircraft as the Night Scythe which is 145. GW should have just added the points cost of a Death Ray which is about 20pts making it come in at 165, The Monolith needs Fly back.... Plasmancers only work if you take 2-3 Psychomancers are too hard to use. He cant use his abilities until the Morale phase and it requires he be within 12". Lord is a cheap Command Protocols enabler and Orb carrier if you want to save points for more characters...he works well with Lychguard tp keep him alive. Skorptekh Destroyer Lord needs to come dowm, very rarely he sees play in good lists... Lokust Lord is better IMHO. CHeaper, loves the Voltaic Staff for shooting and in melee with a good combat Warlord Trait. Illuminor Szeras is the cost of 2 Crypteks and a great gun and some unique abilities. Needs to drop 10-20 points. Good Warlord Trait if you give him one.
@@MrPace-ge4qy I was very excited when I picked up the codex hoping that praetorians we’re going to be great since they were considered an over costed weak unit in eighth. I was putting bets down on the Szarekhan dynasty making them special since they serve Triarch which is the silent king. In the lore they are kind of like the military police when it comes to making sure the other dynasties don’t eradicate themselves were they acted as guardians of sleeping to worlds secretly watching... You would think they’d be more powerful and I hate the fact they do not have dynastic codes but it makes sense. If anything they should have their own sub Faction Dynastic Codes that are accessible in any dynasty without breaking any detachment rules since they are diagnostic agents. The extra attack and having the rod go to two damage is nice vs Space Marines and other Necrons but after that the Rod kind a falls to the side vs Deathguard and other types of units that have -1 damage reduction which is why I hate bringing them. (my brother plays Deathguard) With the meta-shifting to low Toughness, low save units like 8 Point Skitari, Drukari, Poxwalkers and most likely orcs, I think that Tesla weapons will make a come back and the praetorian load out with the blade and pistol might see some use, which comes out to for face attacks and a pistol 2 for a total of six Attacks when engaged which is pretty good when you combine it with their Triarch Strat of +1 to hit. I agree they are definitely not worth the score that was given in this video. I would only ever take them with the silent king otherwise the 3 unopened boxes of the Lychguard box is being built as Lychguard with shields since I play my Dynasty as Szarekhan which makes them 4++ 5+++. I was surprised to see Lokust Destroyers rated at seven when I think they are a solid five or six at most only because of their points cost and the 24” range. They literally have the same stats as a score of tech destroyer which cost 35. I don’t know how many points the fly keyword is with a gun that has three attacks just like their cousins Skorptekh Destroyers, but it’s definitely not 20 points. I have three boxes of wreaths and because of all the hordes and the -1 reduction from Deathguard I’m seriously considering at least two maybe three wreaths with whip coils which puts them at eight attacks each nine if you have a control node and feel safe overdrive nearby. The bottom line is playing a faction that has one of the first books in an new edition is going to suffer probably entire Edition as GW tends to concentrate their resources on new content and in my experience they rarely dedicate any resources to past releases unless the numbers drop super low and sales suffer and even then that’s rare. The best we can hope for is a good regiment of renown if we even get one. If we do I’m hoping it’s for Destroyer Cults or some strange alliance involving Units from another book. Ironically the silent king is trying to save the galaxy due to some unknown dire threat. It’s been hinted it’s the largest Tyranid swarm ever recorded heading this way, Plus you have a Illuminor Szeras working in secret with these Technamamdrites (Super Crypteks who are basically responsible for creating the weapons during the war in heaven that destroyed or shattered most of the C’Ran) for some entity they refer to as their “Patron”. they are responsible for creating the rift And I don’t think they’re referring to the silent king considering he was responsible for hunting them down and destroying them so they could never re-create such weapons again right before he commanded the entire Necron race to go to sleep so he could float away to the deepest and darkest corners of the void to atone for mistakingly dooming his entire race.
Another thing that can be done with Warrior blobs is to pair a novokh group with a rad-wreathed/ancients stir dynasty. Yes, you lose command protocols but the -1 toughness math wise translates ~ to +2 strength against meatlings (non-vehicles.)
You're a machine, man. I would love to see this done for the Wolves and Death Guard, too. Have you ever considered doing a video around competitive gameplay and tactics? Explain what 'tagging' is, 'screening' etc?
These entire army videos are absolutely invaluable 🤩. Thank you so much for taking the time for such a concise synopsis of each model. That being said, I'd love to see one for the Orks (once the new codex arrives) and in the meantime possibly a Sororitas of Tyrranid one 😃.
Thank you so much for the in depth explanation for units. As an absolute newbie for me this is priceless. And love the way you explain it :). Thank you mate!
19:25 I played a small tt skirmish with my brother. I had 2 necron warriors squads, 5 of those elite guys, one general and a squad of the scarab. I hid them behind a building that was essentially the perfect area for a kill box. My brother moved 5 of his grey knights and half a squad of guardsmen into the area and on my next turn my scarab scaled up and over the building and ravaged the FUCK out of everyone. In one turn I killed all but the commissar attached to the guards and left 2 Grey knights alive but on one hit left each. Those scarab, if used right, are no joke
Also it probably won't break accidentally like Void Dragon and Silent King can in transport... I would fcking die inside if I opened my bag at table and get out broken Silent King followed by broken Void Dragon.... I mean they are lovely! But the potential $ and time investment lost if it break (possibly easily) is terrifying
@@alexkaplan6581 No, only the Outsider and the Nightbringer ate other C'tan. I've never seen it ever mentioned the other C'tan cannibalized each other. You have a source on where you got that from? I own every Necron Codex and novel (not that there'smany of the latter), so it would be weird for them not to mention that in at least one of those.
Triarch stalker is 10/10 for me. Targeting Relay is not only for one unit, all units hit by Triarch Stalker are affected so you can divide the shoots for differents units and "mark" several units. Also Triarch Stalker have weapon options with high RoF, specially Twin Heavy Gauss Cannon with 6 shoots. It´s one of the few options to re-rolls 1s to hit at shoots, out of Destroyers. Also Twin Heavy Gauss Cannon is a good weapon non-random-RoF and Quantum Shielding make it very tough. Warriors or Inmortals affected with My Will Be Done shooting to an unit affected with Targeting Relay is amazing.
Warden can be quite nice even with a melee army. Let’s you charge, fight, then next turn fall back, shoot, then charge and fight again. Really boosts damage on blobs of angry Novokh warriors.
I mostly agree with the units you rated as better than others though I personally would put the Monolith and Lokhust Destroyers at more like 4 or 5 out of 10
A fun thing with cryptothralls is pairing them with a technomancer equipped with a canoptek control node. 6 attacks each hitting on 2+, and if you throw in a fail-safe overcharger its 7 each.
This is a crazy project to start up right before CA, very cool though and it's unlikely that the points will go that crazy especially since GW already announced our big change was that Immortals weren't really changing lol.
I really like the idea of a Royal Warden in a Novokh list. His ability means units can cycle charge to keep that extra -1AP in play. Having unit of warriors with S5 and 2A through strats plus the -1AP on the charge could be a great way to punish an opponent that didn't kill them in assault. I think lychguard could really benefit from him too
Orikan the Diviner needs a reesculpt with two models one when is in normal state and the other when it goes super-saiyan. Also Anrakyr need a reesculpt. The new Overlord looks just better, is plastic and can perfectly proxi him. Many of the characters have another drawback: they are being cast in resin.
One of my fondest memories of a battle vs necrons was when I had a Leman Russ charge a 1 W Nightbringer and finish him off. Something so satisfying about just running over an elder god.
This was a great video. One comment would be maybe adding things like a ranking of the Dynasty rules? I'd like to see Custodes or Chaos Space Marines but I don't think they would be complete without ranking legions/warbands or Shield Hosts.
The Plasmacyte can be useful for protecting the Destroyers from overwatch. It is only destroyed if it is out of coherency of a destroyed model at the end of the morale phase. If it makes the charge it will prevent the enemy from overwatching the Destroyers, and if the enemy decides to overwatch it instead they will have wasted a CP on a 15 point model (and still be unable to overwatch the Destroyers).
hexmark is the best veil carrier imo; it drops down on top of any unit you want and veils it, plus it overwatches on a 2+ also good with gauntlet of the conflagrator
Love your work, Auspex! Just wanted to say, though, Deathmarks don't really need a points change so much as more shooting output. If they were, say, Heavy 2, or Rapid-Fire 1... But yeah, they're broken and not in a good way. 😞
Video Idea: How to build your units. A video diving into the best way of putting together your plastic. Which weapon loadout is best. Like: How to best build a 10 man unit of wyches.
i am probably wrong, but nightbringer not only ignores fnp and invul, he ignores damage reducing estricting abilities like duty eternal or 4w\phase on ghazkull, so he is 11\10 lol (probably its just me reading his rules wrong)
Love you content bud. Think you have been quite generous though with rankings. Lots of 10s, although doing OK in tournaments necrons aren't tearing the meta up.
You forgot the largest drawback that Flayed Ones have...THEY COST $10 PER MODEL!!! I understood (sort of) why the old Flayed Ones models cost that much, but the new ones are PLASTIC and require groups of 10 or more to be threatening enough to anything short of hoards. So if you want to field them efficiently that unit is going to cost you a bloody hundo! I MIGHT have invested in a group of these if they were, I dunno, $40 per 5 (hell, do the space marine thing and release a 10 man box for $65...I'd buy that!)...but if I wanted to buy 5 models that can make an impact on the table, I'd sooner invest $38 on some Immortals than $50 on Flayed Ones. I could rant about how little sense the pricing of Flayed Ones makes (let alone the pricing of anything GW makes) all day, but I won't take up any more space in this comments section.
Thanks for the video, great content as always. But as a necron player I disagree on the ctan ranks you give especially on "normal" ctan. They all should be almost 2 points lower. Nightbringer can almost easily get destroyed by a good player before even it attacks anything.
I agree with a lot of what you said Except for a few things. That being The Monolith, Destroyers and some of the canoptek units. The Monolith being a lord of war isn't what turns me off about it. It's the lack of an invul, I'm paying 3 cp and 360 points for something people are going to shoot at due to its size and threat it feels high risk not enough reward especially on heavy terrain. The Destroyer cults are overpriced especially the lokhusts it doesn't help that their is no rules synergy for them aside from a couple of stratagems either. And finally when I say Canoptek units I'm really just talking about the spyder and wraiths, yes you can bring a control node technomancer but more often than not the Wraiths and spiders will outpace your movement 5" cryptek and hitting on 4's is kinda trash, almost like the Deamon engines. Also I'm hoping that we get a Destroyer Cult army of renown I feel like that would help them out a bit and enable me to dust off the Lokhusts.
Do i have to know the whole rules and dynastic codes and stratagems prior to playing the game? I ran through a combat encounter with my friend on TTRPG Simulator yesterday and we had fun and completed it, but he mentioned there's like 10 strategems for Space Marines alone and how they complicated the gameplay in a good way but they you don't necessarily need them. Is that true?

I agree on Tomb Blades, but I prefer Tesla surprisingly with 4 shots each and are great at Overwatching
Orikan can give the Praetorian a 5++ and charge reroll...
GW should have just added the points cost of a Death Ray which is about 20pts making it come in at 165,
The Monolith needs Fly back....
Plasmancers only work if you take 2-3
Psychomancers are too hard to use.
You make good points. I think AT overated praetorians as the are cannon fodder without one of two HQ's buffing them.
(my brother plays Deathguard)
With the meta-shifting to low Toughness, low save units like 8 Point Skitari, Drukari, Poxwalkers and most likely orcs, I think that Tesla weapons will make a come back and the praetorian load out with the blade and pistol might see some use, which comes out to for face attacks and a pistol 2 for a total of six Attacks when engaged which is pretty good when you combine it with their Triarch Strat of +1 to hit.
When canoptek spyders and plasmacyte's have the same ranking, something is horribly wrong.
@@TazTaser Not to mention saying that the Annihilation Barge has good firepower.
I feel like AT is overrating this codex. Also yes preatorians were kinda of a let down there to squishy without Orikan.
All my friends play necrons. I’ve been looking for this for sooo long
Hey nice video as always.
Will you make a new one of these but for the post-"codex admech?
Another thing that can be done with Warrior blobs is to pair a novokh group with a rad-wreathed/ancients stir dynasty. Yes, you lose command protocols but the -1 toughness math wise translates ~ to +2 strength against meatlings (non-vehicles.)
You're a machine, man. I would love to see this done for the Wolves and Death Guard, too.
Have you ever considered doing a video around competitive gameplay and tactics? Explain what 'tagging' is, 'screening' etc?
The hexmark makes me so sad. He’s such an awesome model but he’s really not the best option.
You forgot the main downside of flayed ones: they’re hard as fuck to build
These entire army videos are absolutely invaluable 🤩. Thank you so much for taking the time for such a concise synopsis of each model. That being said, I'd love to see one for the Orks (once the new codex arrives) and in the meantime possibly a Sororitas of Tyrranid one 😃.
Thank you so much for the in depth explanation for units. As an absolute newbie for me this is priceless. And love the way you explain it :). Thank you mate!

I played a small tt skirmish with my brother.
Thank you. Been thinking about getting my first army, being Necrons, but have been a little overwhelmed.
By far and away the premiere 40k strategy analysis content on the web
Surely the actual model of the Nightbringer should be listed as one of the Weaknesses. What a let down.
but its also a 370 point model for $40 and one of the most dangerous necron models. Model is dated but it isnt ugly like some finecast out there
I like the Nightbringer model tbh
Also it probably won't break accidentally like Void Dragon and Silent King can in transport... I would fcking die inside if I opened my bag at table and get out broken Silent King followed by broken Void Dragon.... I mean they are lovely! But the potential $ and time investment lost if it break (possibly easily) is terrifying
Super solid video. Thanks Auspex!
"Oddly enough he is really good at killing other C'tan."
I mean, not that odd considering he killed quite a lot of them, and ate them lol.
All of the sharded ones killed and ate C'tan, though big NB was tge best, IIRC.
Not only the Ctan man but the Ctan woman and the Ctan Children too! I ATE them! They are like animals so I slaughtered them like animals!
Truly excellent review. You're the best!
Would love to see a similar review for Tau
Man, if a Monith and Convergencr of Dominion are 7s I tremble to think of what qualifies as a 1 in your book!
worse.. consider the obelisk is NOT a 1/10 for what is an overpriced brick with "ignore me" tagged on all its sides
@@thorveim1174 🤣
This is just the video I needed because I'm starting a Necron army next.
I mostly agree with the units you rated as better than others though I personally would put the Monolith and Lokhust Destroyers at more like 4 or 5 out of 10
was a really good video thanks Auspex
I'm preparing to get my first army and I'm so happy I found this
This video is dope asf. Great job
A fun thing with cryptothralls is pairing them with a technomancer equipped with a canoptek control node. 6 attacks each hitting on 2+, and if you throw in a fail-safe overcharger its 7 each.
I just wish, they would've legitimized the mynarkh dynasty. The new destroyers would've been great with 8th edition Kutlakh...
you should add the prices too
It doesn’t quite get them over the “mark”. Over the death mark 😂😂
Wow man these are awsome videos. Space wolves, orks and chaos space marines would be cool to see.
hmmm will use this video to figure out how to expand my Indomitus dudes.
Was very excited to watch this one! Would love to see AD MECH next! 🧙🏻♂️
Another thing to consider with the lokhust lord, he is the only one with access to the phylactry as standard. Could make him exeedingly tanky.
damn you could have done a 3 part video for this one and they would not have seems like short ones. Thank's as always for your vidéos
Video was Great you should cover the Space Wolves next!
Me, a Brazilian who has never seen a Tabletop war game: why not? Why should I not watch this 1 hour vídeo
I watch these to know the weaknesses of my enemies
One of my fondest memories of a battle vs necrons was when I had a Leman Russ charge a 1 W Nightbringer and finish him off. Something so satisfying about just running over an elder god.
Would have been nice to include the FW units too. Especially the Tombstalker Sentinel is an excellent Gravis Armour killer
He recently did an entire video on necron FW units
Scarab Swarm 10/10 confirmed, they tied up some hefty units in the last few games I've played.
This was a great video. One comment would be maybe adding things like a ranking of the Dynasty rules? I'd like to see Custodes or Chaos Space Marines but I don't think they would be complete without ranking legions/warbands or Shield Hosts.
With new LoW cp cost changes does that effect how viable the monolith is. And I don't think you lose any codes or protocols as it is dynasty keyworded
Forgot one major thing bout the scarab, you get a fun little stratagem to blow em up on someone.
hexmark is the best veil carrier imo; it drops down on top of any unit you want and veils it, plus it overwatches on a 2+
also good with gauntlet of the conflagrator
Fun fact the Chronomancer from the Killteam is Female according the book that's included. Pretty neat
Love your work, Auspex! Just wanted to say, though, Deathmarks don't really need a points change so much as more shooting output. If they were, say, Heavy 2, or Rapid-Fire 1... But yeah, they're broken and not in a good way. 😞
Idk about a couple but great content as always.
Video Idea: How to build your units. A video diving into the best way of putting together your plastic. Which weapon loadout is best. Like: How to best build a 10 man unit of wyches.
i am probably wrong, but nightbringer not only ignores fnp and invul, he ignores damage reducing
estricting abilities like duty eternal or 4w\phase on ghazkull, so he is 11\10 lol (probably its just me reading his rules wrong)
Would like to suggest Tyranids for review.
Please do Custodes! Just starting 40k and would love one of these for them
Love you content bud. Think you have been quite generous though with rankings. Lots of 10s, although doing OK in tournaments necrons aren't tearing the meta up.
I think the ratings are how they stack up against other units in their own codex not the meta in general.
Hypermaterial Ablater is very nice on warscythe lychguards because they get Cover and 2+ armor so, if not the Shooter is 12 Inches or less away
Awesome video!!!!! You are a beast!
I'd agree with the bump of Royal Warden to 8, he's a prime pick for the Mephrit dynasties relic weapon Conduit of the Stars.
everything is a 6 or better?(obelisk doesnt count) how are you rating these?
I love Flayed Ones and really want to run more of them, but GW makes them SO DAMN EXPENSIVE
Auspex! Could you make an updated one of these for the new Core rules added to the crons! They have so many options now!
Höhö 3d printer goes brrrrr
And yeah as a necrons player this is stupid, i just kitbash them with the massive amounts of warriors I have lying around
@@Legendarys12 yep the yre easily kitbashed with warriors. Or buy the kill team set with the chronomancer and the flayed ones
With the Warhammer Imperium Magazin, its now 2 Euro per Miniature
Great video, thanks!
Tyranids next please!
Just received a Chronomancer :) Next it just might be some Spyders.
So I glanced at the video run time and misread it as 5 mins and was very concerned for our dude trying to marathon cram it all into that timeframe XD
I feel like the Crypteks would suit the elites slot a bit better than hq
Thanks for the video, great content as always. But as a necron player I disagree on the ctan ranks you give especially on "normal" ctan. They all should be almost 2 points lower. Nightbringer can almost easily get destroyed by a good player before even it attacks anything.
I’d love to see one of these for death guard
Scarab swarm + command protocol of the Hungry Void makes them S4. Hurting average troops on 4+ instead of 5+.
