Dummala Ella is a 5m-tall, beautiful waterfall located closer to Bulathkohupitiya, Sri Lanka. Earlier this area had been called Katuhena, and therefore the waterfall had been known as Katuhena Ella as well. The stream on which the waterfall is located, eventually joins Kelani River.
This waterfall can be reached by travelling along the Dedugala Road (B67) and turning off at Doolgala.
According to folklore, King Walagamba (c. 103 BC - 88 BC) is stated to have sought refuge in the nearby forests after being defeated in a battle. The king is said to have washed his plate in this stream. Even now, on full-moon days a golden plate is believed to be seen floating on this stream.
Many varieties of rare plants including different species of ferns can be seen around this area. At present, Dummala Ella has faced the threat of drying out due to deforestation.
