- I never thought id troll skirts but thankfully they didn't have hooks in them and were just meant for teasers. This day was a proper eye opener for me, realising what an incredible fishery we have for sailfish and the potential for the future

I used to have a lot of trouble hooking Sails and then I read an article, which said when a Sailfish hits a bait it doesn't expect it to keep swimming, so I tried it, using Dubro clips and circle hooks and free spooling and the success rate improved heaps.
Very cool Matt awesome footage, do love chasing sails and little blacks at this time of year in nth Q only ever trolled never cast to one. Not as many around as there used to be so fantastic that you boys had fun 🦈

Great fish. Here in Malaysia we have smaller ones and they congregate on east coast in a place called Rompin. Usually we use balloons tied to live bait. Success rate is very high. Double hookups are common and even triple hook ups

Beautiful video Matt. That is my dream fish. On an unrelated note, I’m still hoping for Twitch It to make a US debut. They would do well with large mouth bass, speckled trout, redfish, striped bass, etc. There is a definite market because of not only their versatility, but especially their durability from what I’ve seen. We need more of that on the shelves here. Many soft plastics in the US have short life spans. I guess import costs would probably suck though…

im not sure if its a time of year thing but I keep seeing them on the surface after sails have been into them. wouldn't be the easiest thing to swallow haha

Next season get ya butt to Broome for a Saily session, I promise the numbers will blow ya mind. They are perfect size for a flyrod challenge.
Or Weipa. My best day was 8 on the fly solo out off Weipa. Late July through to mid September is the best up there. My best day there on conventional tackle was 13/10/10, but some guys have had days of chaos where they forget the bite numbers. I also did Kuala Rompin a few years ago and I reckon Weipas bill fishing is on par on the right day. Part of the challenge in both Broome and Weipa on fly is shark predation cos its impossible to completely free spool.
