Okay, how many of you first saw this scene as a kid and didn't realize until now that the radio playing "Who's Johnny" was foreshadowing for his chosen name, heheh? (I was convinced the song was a huge hit before the movie came out and didn't realize El DeBarge made the music video based off the flick!)
I think it's oddly convenient and funny how this is the only video of this scene I can find on UA-cam and it was uploaded the day before I looked for it.
@@sbcool1027 The movie was filmed in Astoria, Oregon. 94.1 in 1986 belonged to KRXF which served Bend, Oregon and the surrounding radius of the transmitter which included the town of Astoria (260 miles northwest) on the 94.1 MHz band. The station has since migrated to 92.9 MHz after 2010. In 1986, KRXF played a Top 40 format of modern rock and pop music. Today it broadcasts purely modern rock music, but still remains one of the most listened-to stations in Central Oregon.
You cut-out the best part. Skroeder: "READY! AIM!" Old Woman: "I hope you took the grass out of the glove compartment!" Old Man: "Anything wrong, officer?"
Man I LOVE this movie! Johnny 5 is so cute and loveable and innocent! Every time I watch this I just wanna reach into the movie and give him a big hug!
I watched the hell out if this movie as a kid. I had this on VHS tape in German, but I did not speak a single word in German (I am Hungarian) :-). Story was still understandable and adorable.
It was a better director. The director of “Short Circuit 2” has never directed a theatrical film before, but he had been the creator of “The Incredible Hulk” series and the original “V” miniseries. The first one though was directed by John Badham, who had also made “Blue Thunder” and “WarGames.”
Larry Wilson Ken Johnson was a pretty cinematic director at times. His work on those shows was theatrical. Plenty of guys who haven't helmed a movie before get their start eventually. He was a good choice on TriStar's part.
Holy fuck that's Fisher Stevens? I got introduced to him through "Early Edition:" when they started playing that show every morning. I had no idea that was him!
There actually was a limited release of David Shire's score in 2008, but "Who's Johnny?" wasn't on it. For some weird reason, the other theme song. "Come and Follow Me" by Max Carl, was. It was weird because a) Varese Sarabande is generally loath to putting any kind of pop music on any of their soundtrack releases, and b) they chose a song that wasn't even released as a single or was easily recognizable. I don't think Universal Music ever licensed it to be on the soundtrack album back in 1986.
@@volcom05345 there was gonna be a 3rd.The script for chappie was originally short circuit 3 then changed later on.If you havent seen it,is quite similar to the first short circuit but more a little more on the serious side so i guess technically it did get a reboot
When he tosses the tracking sensor into the pickup bed he’s driving toward the tree farm up the hill. When he’s swerving between lanes at the end he’s driving away from the tree farm down the same hill.
Movie goof but really it makes sense he would throw the tracker into the truck going in his direction and then double back the way he came so the army would not see a NOVA robotics truck driving on the road with a giant robot behind the wheel, as they are following the tracker's blip.
If you pay attention to how they're driven, you can tell those vans don't have automatic transmissions. Plus, remember the scene where he stole Stephanie's van, which was explicitly shown to have a standard transmission. With only one "foot", he would have had some real difficulty operating a clutch pedal and driving them properly, yet you never see them jerk or stall out in the movie. So it does still leave a question unanswered.
ah, yes, self driving cars! a brilliant idea!?.. Perhaps this is the type of art that's "effected "modern life? close to 50 years later we're forced to live in a bad 80s movie world.. but Short Circuit clips are hillarious. I also recommend Bonkers commercials and the Heathcliff theme song... They are like portals to the childish world made for generation X
I hadn't seen or really thought about this movie in probably 25 years, and yet I recently happened upon a copy of a novelization of it. It was was such an odd find that I had to buy it and read it, and now I'm as obsessed with this franchise as I was as a kid. I mention it because the novelization must have been written from an earlier version of the screenplay, and definitely before the movie was actually made, because a number of scenes and even character names are different. I came looking for this scene because I suspected it had to be one of them (and it was). In the novelization he hurls the tracking device blindly out of the van and it lands in the pickup truck many miles away. We don't quite see the superhuman strength on display as much or as often in the movie, and I think it works better this way.
94.1 station has a horse race, then Johnny 5 changes the station, 1:44 then Johnny 5 changes the radio BACK to 94.1 and El Debarge is playing. 1:55 What the HELL happened to the horse race that was going on that SAME station? 🤔
They've been talking about it for more than ten years. It isn't going to happen. Plus I don't want to see a Short circuit remake. I want a sequel. I want to see how Johnny 5 survives in the 2010s or even 2020s.
If you remember short circuit, you’re a real one.
Good Movie right there
Watched it all the time back when you would wait for the movie to come on HBO then record the movie on a blank VHS tape 😂

The original Wall-E.

The song "Who's Johnny?" was sung by El DeBarge was featured in the Short Circuit soundtrack
