    You have awesome videos sir I was wondering if you have one on approximately where to land the tile on a porcelain bathtub I have seen your video on the backer board stopping just shy of the tub lip or top of the edge of the tub ? Lol I just discovered we have the same last name... county carlow ireland my roots

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  2 роки тому +1

      Wall tile should be about an 1/8" or slightly less at tub...
      Backer on lip so you'll have a 3/4 or so overlap with tile

    Bob, you are Shower 101 for me, 102 and 103 also. Great videos and commentary on why things are done the way you do. I am in the middle of my own build and it is going well ( I think ). There is one question I have not found discussed on yours or any other tiling video and that is the inside corner. How do you overlap the side wall tile on the back wall tile, what kind of space do you leave, do you run one to the corner and butt the other on top or leave space for both in the corner and why does it matter if it does. From a fellow Atlantan, thanks for all your work putting these together. It helps immensely.

      Did you ever find your answer ?

    • @gordoncox8082
      @gordoncox8082 2 роки тому

      @@OGCJ10 No, I never got a response or found anyone who talked about it in a video. I assume you need some space for expansion but how much or is there a rule of thumb. Most say not to grout the corners and use silicone sealer. I think Bob grouts them with no sealer so either way,. My tiles are set now so it doesn't matter. Going with grout matching sealer in the corners. It is a good job if I say so myself and Bob's videos helped a lot with prep and execution along with others.

    Bob,
    Would be a problem to set the tile vertical? vs horizontal on the wall shower, Like you did in this video? And lastly
    Do you ever start the tile from the very top knowing that you are filling the whole wall? I’m nervous about the ledger boards in my project!
    I believe in yours!!but you are the professional and I’m just a diyer

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  2 роки тому +1

      There is no issue with setting tile vertically, and no you would not start from the top, it would take you forever to do it that way

    Any reason why you made it so narrow? it looks like the shower should be several inches wider.

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  2 роки тому +1

      Yes we had 4 more inches we could've taken it out...but it was a condo 2nd floor with 30 year old "concrete" subfloor, we decided busting out 4 inches of it could compromise the rest & cause a much bigger issue with the rest of the subfloor so we stayed with where the bath tub sat footprint

      If you use a darker grout than you would use gray a lighter grout would be white thinset

    Love your videos Bob! Quick question on Redgard on the pan. Wouldn't that lock the moisture inside the mortar bed if applied before a full cure? Could this be a problem down the line?

    • @StarrTile
      @StarrTile  2 роки тому +1

      As a rule with Cement Products cure time is roughly 20 days, we don't have 20 days to waterproof the shower so about three days at a minimum with a fan on it overnight everyday I leave.
      Some people believe that mortar will cure with or without air, not sure I believe that but I've never had an issue

      @@StarrTile Thanks man! It's my own shower at home and I can take my time on the project, so I'll probably let it cure a week before waterproofing. Much appreciated.

    Thank you again for the lesson! I am thoroughly enjoying learning from you and doing my own walk in. My husband is now watching you too and now will tell me, “Bob does it this way or that way”…. Have you admit that I am quite proud of myself. I am a recovering heart failure and lung patient and I do the work mainly by myself (husband works 12 hour days with UPS) and I might take longer to do it but I am getting it done!

      I throw things around and abuse them everyday, I would feel bad spending a boatload of money on something that doesn't get me to an end game better...cheap tools are easy to replace.
      Also for me anyway I don't push to get out of a job and move to the next one quickly, at my age I always embed enough time that I don't stress a day or 2 over.
      And thanks for the comment ✌👍

      @@StarrTile i get it man... Believe me im very slow too. Good quality takes time. But my tools help save time and i realized they also produce better quality and less of a fight for me. Im not worried about pushing to next job either and i do my best to keep them decent but none the less we make good enough money to replace em if necessary. But yeah just a thought my friend. 😁
