Lower resolutions on the steam deck honestly look fine, they use AMD FSR to enhance the upstairs quality and on some games that's how I prefer to use it
Honestly you say the aya neo air has amazing compatibility out of the box and the deck doesn't, but for me literally every single game I've thrown at my deck has run absolutely flawlessly, even the unsupported ones.
I did the dual boot on my steam deck when I split the SSD 420gb for W11 and the rest for steam OS plus 500Gb SD card for steam and I'm having blast with it. Currently I'm playing after so many years World of Warcraft Dragonflight (Steam OS) graphic preset 6 and I'm able to play 3-4h on single charge. It always make me laugh when I look at the steam deck that I'm able to play AAA on the handheld.
One game I can highly recommend on Steam Deck, is Okami HD. When picking danbert2000's fixed layout, inverting the camera and setting a light filter, the experience is perfect. If it is your kind of game, Deck is the way to play it as it has ~6 hours of battery life when playing and benefits from the dual trackpads. Emulation wise I am not doing much on it, only using Mednaffe installed from Discover to emulate the Sega Saturn, for the Panzer Dragoon games. I'm finding so many games to play on Steam that I'm emulating less than I was before, despite having used Steam since I got a PC. Another usecase the Deck has for me is serving as a Linux tablet while in Desktop Mode. It's buggier there and it requires tweaking to work, but it's ideal for for example watching this video and writing this very comment, the latter after practising with duel trackpads and trigger clicks.
@@ghostsauce3109 the Steam version (hence HD), with a community layout. I don't have a Wii disc and consider the game worth it's Steam price, so no need to emulate that for me.
fsr is just an upscaler, better than most but both these devices can use it. fsr 2 and 2.1 are ai driven upscalers that have to be implemented into games individually. the cyberpunk steamdeck settings use it and any recent AMD car can use tbose settings. FSR doesn't differentiate the two machines it just makes them more viable for high end games.
You have a very nice speaking voice! Good editing too this deserves more views. I really want the Ayaneo Air Pro, but I'm waiting for the cheaper Air Plus. Since I always put resolution to 720P and graphics on Low anyway. And the Plus will have a 6 inch display and only be $299 :D

If you want to look at emulation, use EMU Deck on for the Deck, make sure to read the directions, but they have made it very easy. For my wife's Deck, again emudeck, but Dolphin work quite well for her Game Cube Games, RPCS 3 for a couple SP 3 games that I could not get on Steam, moved away from console gaming around this time so I have not emulated anything past PS3, you will need to get the bios files for PS3 to make it work, same with PS2 so again doesn't work out of the box, but PRCS2 that Emudeck installs works beautifully, Dolphin for Wii, but the only Wii game I wanted to emulate was Metroid Prime 3, you want to use Primehack for that which is a fork of Dolphin (also installed by Emudeck. I don't remember the PSPemulator, again the one with Emudeck it the better one in my opinion, then I use Retroarch for everything else, Genisis, SNES, NES, DS, and even some Game cabinet games, just make sure with retroarch to no limit your FPS to 30 or 45 like you would with many steam games to conserve battery, it will screw up the sound as many older games sound was directly tied to the games FPS. EmuDeck is nice where it will configure almost everything for you and even has tools to port them into your SteamDecks library so you don't even have to go into desktop mode.
Yes! I actually have the R5 acting as the keyboard trigger in addition to Steam+X. I’ve notice that occasionally the button fails to trigger though, where’s as Steam+X is always reliable.
You also can get a Lot of more Performance on the Deck If you increase vram to 4gb in the BIOS use Swap File in Linux or Play your Games on Windows 11. I have about 50fps in Star wars fallen Order in medium graphics 60fps in No man's Sky in Low (which still Looks nice), 50-60fps in Grounded in medium. That's Just mindblowing if you see that your Deck is almost as good as a GTX 1050. And also dont forgot that you can use FSR (Like dlss in Nvidia) to boost the Performance even more.
15:12, In reality, the switch usually operates on a dynamic resolution scale, sure, in mario kart 8 and odyssey it usually stays at 720p or even 1080p on docked, but with demanding games like the witcher, botw or mortal kombat it can crank down the resolution up to 320p (Mortal Kombat is the worse). I only wanted to clarify that :P I'm enjoying the video a lot haha
You actually want higher CPU and GPU utilization, because it not being at 100% means that there is technically performance you could benefit from that you just aren't due to inefficiencies in rendering or processing pipelines.
Once aya makes an oled device with a 6800u the steamdeck will be even more obsolete (it already is obsolete when compared to modern 6800u handhelds if price doesnt matter)
Some games that I played on Linux that you should check out: Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered Valheim (although it might struggle with late-game builds. It's in alpha atm) Don't Starve / Don't Starve Together Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth
@@MrTekSuggest You're welcome! :) Just a heads up: I noticed later that controller support in Pillars of the Earth is currently broken in the native Linux version of the game. (I played with mouse/keyboard before) If you do want to play it, you can try running it through Proton, although that gives me some other issues on my PC. Worth a try though. Another solution could be to simply use/create a controller-scheme that emulates the mouse/kb and/or use the touchscreen. If none of those work out, Steam is very easy with refunds (as long as you've played less than 2 hours and bought the game within 2 weeks no questions will be asked) I've just send the developer ( Daedalic Entertainment) a support ticket on their website in the hope that they will fix the issue. It's a shame, as it is an amazing game imo.
ouch well im glad the steam deck shortage didnt make me desperate enough to go for the AN Air Pro I'll be very interested to see what the second generation of these devices can do
I have both of these, and the Steam Deck is undoubtedly better but I actually like the Air Pro better. For my use case, I really enjoy using it for PS Plus game streaming, and since it has Windows I can install the third party app required to trick the controller into thinking it's a Dual Shock 4 so I can use trackpad commands. So, now I can play nearly 400 Playstation games streaming to my Air Pro, and it performs really well. The Deck can do PS Plus too, but any game that uses the trackpad for anything becomes unplayable, and tons of games use it just to see the map or bring up you equipment menu.
I have these Handhelds + some other, one thing people miss is that nowadays fixing small screen problem is so easy by getting Nreal Air! I have been using it nearly always when playing games, but I do it on my 6800U Handheld for a 1080P high settings gaming, Deck can't do 1080P high settings and have issues connecting while these windows ones so easy to do it
@@jayson2121 Your mileage may vary on input lag of course, but for me it's not noticeable with most games. Some games you notice it more than others, like fighting games where you expect tight response you do feel it more. But, other games that have their own built in input lag or animation frames like Assassin's Creed you really don't feel it. Also, for me after a few minutes my brain adjusts to it and I notice it less and less. If you like RPG's or JRPG's then the Sony service is friggin amazing as well since they have so many to play and input lag doesn't matter in the slightest for those games. On top of the cloud service, I also stream my PS5 to my Air which is even more consistent.
With some desktop mode know-how you can make other launchers work on Deck as well, Epic store, GoG... Even Xbox Game pass, and for people with good connections there's always the Nvidia streaming GforceNOW
Look I think the Steam Deck is great as it has created a massive interest in Handheld Gaming Pcs, Linux and PC gaming in general, BUT there is one massive advantage Aya, GPD, and OneNote have that is only been made aware of now... they are OEMs that obviously make new models and upgrades WAY more frequently, it is their primary business model after all - making PCs. So the cost to performance right now is on the side of the Steam Deck, but it will not be long until newer Handhelds come out from these companies packing the latest more powerful efficient chips from AMD, Intel or Nvidia, more features and refinements that the hardware advantages even at higher prices would surpass the Steam Deck's lower price for its aging hardware. Valve is not going to release a Steam Deck 2 (with meaningful upgrades) for a long while and I doubt would make that many iterations in a year compared to Aya, GPD and OneNote.
Actually, most Switch Game has Lower than 720p Resolution. The AYA NEO Pro is already outdated, GPU is more important than CPU, 8Gen Console showed us that, the Deck will run some newer Games, at 30FPS Yes, but it will run it, where the AYANEO will be rejected for outdated Shader Model. OK, its not 80 More Pixels, its 102400 more pixels, that why the pixel grid is X x Y, its Y time the line of X pixels. Deck use 16:10 Aspect Ratio because a lot of PC Only Games use that Aspect Ratio, they used this Screen Resolution because its what the GPU can handle without getting Performance or Memory Issue. An Higher Resolution means a more powerfull GPU, that means more power drain, and an OLED Screen means an Higher Price Tag, what VALVE wanted to avoid.
Yeah, Vega graphics are outdated, replace by rdna2 (what most 6800u apus have) Was really hoping aya would release an updated model of the air pro with a 6800u, unfortunately due to the architecture this will quickly become obsolete for modern titles, still works well for streaming, and emulation though, as for me, imma keep an eye out for a v2 with more powerful processor
You do a game performance comparison but you never show temperatures for the Steam Deck like if you did this intentionally to favor the Ayaneo air pro ….
I received my Steam Deck last Friday…. Mind blown! Great review, nice manicured hands btw, most of these reviewers should take note, no one wants to see a savage hands holding tech 😂. I respect a fellow classy/groomed nerd. 👍🏽
I'm not even a huge OLED fan, but I'll admit Valve's biggest mistake with the Deck was the screen. Not very high resolution - which is a shame for older and indie games that don't need extreme performance Huge bezels that stand out like a sore thumb and take away precious space on the device. Quite reflective on the 64 and 256 gig models. Terrible color, even compared to other IPS displays. I use the cheapest available 1080p144hz monitor with IPS and it fares way better. At least, they got the size in general _very_ right. Console ports and especially PC exclusives just really need a screen of that physical size. It might make the thing bulky, but it's way better than the alternative of constant squinting
It look like a big PlayStation Vita a big switch and is that the God of war PS5 controller in the back let's not walk past that like we didn't see that
Deppends for what u want to do. If u want to play triple A games mostly go for Steam deck. But if u want to play good old games like me and have easy portability go for Aya neo. Im waiting for my Aya Neo pro 5825u to arrive and I know is enough for what I need. I just want to play a few PSP, PS2, PS3, Wii, Switch and PC games. All of the games I want to play are 10 years or more old and don't need too much power to run. Aya neo can fit inside my jeans pocket wich is very good on the move. I have OneXplayer 1s and it's big and heavy to play after some time playing my arms hurts that's why I bought Aya neo air pro with half of the weight and much smaller size.
I'm still one of those "oldies" who uses laptop for portable gaming? :P - I wish I could get my hands on the a steam deck.. But from a financial point of view it's hard for me to justify the purchase
Just put Windows on the deck...I did it day one, split the nvme.. No need for streaming..I only use it for games that don't like Linux.. But I can dual boot no problem or issues thus far and it's been many months. PS.. I've had no luck with PS3 emulation.. It's not powerful enough, rpcs3.. Used my desktop and it's fine. For switch, PS2 and 1 and all others it seems fine (haven't done xboxs yet)
The latest 6800U + 680M handheld gaming PCs are already more powerful and capable than the Steam Deck. By late 2023 there would most likely be 7800U + 780M models and an Aya Neo Next 2 having a discreet GPU. If prices stay around the same for new devices, SteamDeck's price to performance in comparison will drop.

Are you playing okami Wii one or a different
@@ghostsauce3109 the Steam version (hence HD), with a community layout.
I don't have a Wii disc and consider the game worth it's Steam price, so no need to emulate that for me.
@@WyvernDotRed thought the okami in Wii was okami hd oh okay didn't know they made a PC version of the game so I assumed you were emulating Wii
Pair the Steam Deck with a pair of Nreal Air glasses. The screen resolution won't be such a disappointment when you use them.
Damn… I want that skin! I got a portal skin, but I pretty much regretted getting it after application.
I added a link in description!
What about fsr? I think fsr is definitely a huge factor. It’s basically a must on both devices. It’s only going to get better when fsr 2.0 comes
fsr is just an upscaler, better than most but both these devices can use it. fsr 2 and 2.1 are ai driven upscalers that have to be implemented into games individually. the cyberpunk steamdeck settings use it and any recent AMD car can use tbose settings. FSR doesn't differentiate the two machines it just makes them more viable for high end games.
@@cupidknewrap yes…. Exactly…. Haha fsr is a must on these devices
Fsr 2 is not ai driven. It just upscale from multiple frames and needs additional data from the game
Love that wolf art.
Wow Great Video, I have the Steam Deck but , Hope to afford Air Pro as its Smaller and reminds me of the Switch Lite, Thanks Gave a Sub👍👍
I can’t find the ragnarok skin using the link, I can’t even find it with search lmao. I guess it’s not available. It’s a shame because it’s a really good skin
Hey man, it’s a custom skin that I commissioned. You’ll have to message the store to inquire about it. Tell them MrTek sent you.
It should be fairly regular console like experience on the Deck if you stick to verified games and not going into desktop mode.
You can rebind whatever button for keyboard on deck) not only steam+x
Yes! I actually have the R5 acting as the keyboard trigger in addition to Steam+X. I’ve notice that occasionally the button fails to trigger though, where’s as Steam+X is always reliable.
Looking forward to you comparison of Aya Neo 2 and sTeam Deck
You also can get a Lot of more Performance on the Deck If you increase vram to 4gb in the BIOS use Swap File in Linux or Play your Games on Windows 11. I have about 50fps in Star wars fallen Order in medium graphics 60fps in No man's Sky in Low (which still Looks nice), 50-60fps in Grounded in medium. That's Just mindblowing if you see that your Deck is almost as good as a GTX 1050. And also dont forgot that you can use FSR (Like dlss in Nvidia) to boost the Performance even more.
I use my wireless mouse & keyboard to do certain things or the normal things on my deck without the track pads on my Deck.
Where'd you get that skin!
How did you get your GPU usage to 99% on the air pro? cant get above 70 on mine
I just wish Aya or someone else would release a handheld that has OLED in a 7-inch display. The Air's just seems small
This is what TV Cabinet Gaming system should look like.
1:13 Second I heard your first handheld was a switch oled, I immediately discounted your handheld experience. Try to fault me.
is no one gonna question this mans thumb at 3:39
Once aya makes an oled device with a 6800u the steamdeck will be even more obsolete (it already is obsolete when compared to modern 6800u handhelds if price doesnt matter)
Some games that I played on Linux that you should check out:
Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch Remastered
Valheim (although it might struggle with late-game builds. It's in alpha atm)
Don't Starve / Don't Starve Together
Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth
Thanks man
@@MrTekSuggest You're welcome! :)
Just a heads up:
I noticed later that controller support in Pillars of the Earth is currently broken in the native Linux version of the game. (I played with mouse/keyboard before)
If you do want to play it, you can try running it through Proton, although that gives me some other issues on my PC. Worth a try though.
Another solution could be to simply use/create a controller-scheme that emulates the mouse/kb and/or use the touchscreen.
If none of those work out, Steam is very easy with refunds (as long as you've played less than 2 hours and bought the game within 2 weeks no questions will be asked)
I've just send the developer (
Daedalic Entertainment) a support ticket on their website in the hope that they will fix the issue. It's a shame, as it is an amazing game imo.
ouch well im glad the steam deck shortage didnt make me desperate enough to go for the AN Air Pro
I'll be very interested to see what the second generation of these devices can do
Need to know where you got the gow skin for the sd
I don’t know how anyone can justify the price for retro gaming when there’s such cheap great emulation machines now
How about a steam library on the good then. Well worth the money.
Bruv, you didn't invite the vita to this showdown????
Interesting, thanks for the perspective man!
I have these Handhelds + some other, one thing people miss is that nowadays fixing small screen problem is so easy by getting Nreal Air!
I have been using it nearly always when playing games, but I do it on my 6800U Handheld for a 1080P high settings gaming, Deck can't do 1080P high settings and have issues connecting while these windows ones so easy to do it
How bad is the streaming input lag
I wish someone did this type of review for Aya Neo 2... More Practical less technical
With some desktop mode know-how you can make other launchers work on Deck as well, Epic store, GoG... Even Xbox Game pass, and for people with good connections there's always the Nvidia streaming GforceNOW
One very highly important facet is the air pro is the only high quality device I can fit in my pocket. 😊
Yes, indeed!
I really prefer how the Ayaneo looks.
are those grips on your triggers?
For retro emulation I recommend Retrodeck
11:00 Ok Steam Deck UI is for now better than Big Picture, fortunately the thing is that soon Big Picture will be replaced by the Steam Deck UI
The issue here is that even though the CPU is more powerful, the GPU bottleneck renders that performance useless because it the GPU can't keep up
I just wanted to remind you that the steam deck is basically a pc, so you can install any OS you want on it
Is it just me or does the ayaneo look like it runs really choppy?
Yeah, Vega graphics are outdated, replace by rdna2 (what most 6800u apus have)
Was really hoping aya would release an updated model of the air pro with a 6800u, unfortunately due to the architecture this will quickly become obsolete for modern titles, still works well for streaming, and emulation though, as for me, imma keep an eye out for a v2 with more powerful processor
I got retroid pocket 3 and I love it
You do a game performance comparison but you never show temperatures for the Steam Deck like if you did this intentionally to favor the Ayaneo air pro ….
I received my Steam Deck last Friday…. Mind blown! Great review, nice manicured hands btw, most of these reviewers should take note, no one wants to see a savage hands holding tech 😂. I respect a fellow classy/groomed nerd. 👍🏽
😂
you can't go wrong with emu deck, yuzu for switch , cemu for wii u with help of proton
Where did u get that skin
You don't even need to buy a switch. Emulation is very advanced and works great on a steamdeck.
Can you play sims 4 and or GTA RP???
I'm not even a huge OLED fan, but I'll admit Valve's biggest mistake with the Deck was the screen.
Not very high resolution - which is a shame for older and indie games that don't need extreme performance
Huge bezels that stand out like a sore thumb and take away precious space on the device.
They put all the money in the chip/OS
It look like a big PlayStation Vita a big switch and is that the God of war PS5 controller in the back let's not walk past that like we didn't see that
Playing those games will be really easy, I minor inconvenience!
Yeah fk windows 10 or 11. Have u tried windows 7 instead?
Great thorough review!
At that size 1080p is kinda useless except for being a battery drainer
How can we reach you - what's your business email?
I'm still one of those "oldies" who uses laptop for portable gaming? :P - I wish I could get my hands on the a steam deck.. But from a financial point of view it's hard for me to justify the purchase
New sub. Review ayaneo 2 asap please!
Emudeck 2.0 / PS2 a ton
Emudeck, Ive heard a lot of good things!
And let me just say this you got it right next to the Xbox I don't even feel no disrespect cuz you know I love PlayStation do it
Nice seriesX
Aya products are for the super rich and the poor. Steam Deck makes more sense and the support and repairability makes me giddy
They don't have to be verified to be playable
I’m just dying inside knowing how Nintendo could beat the whole competition but since they are Nintendo they wouldn’t even try
Man, it is insane how fast PC handheld technology is progressing. Ayaneo is seriously a company to watch. They pump out their new models like clockwork.
Well thanks to the SD lets us all say, cause of the SD did not happen then competition would not rise, and even considering the market its amazing how SD deck still stands.
Also hopefully steamOS grows so we have more options and one that works for portable gaming.
This review doesn't matter since you got the ayaneo neo pro for free. Try purchasing units with your own 💰, then you can make a quality review since you'll have some skin in the game.
if the aya neo was same price same power, id still go with the deck. Valve is just a great company
If I had the deck I’d put windows simply so I can play multiplayer games online with anti cheat like cod and halo
Hi the steam deck lack of support is rather a anti-piracy meseures in games and anticheat one
